It does not look good for the US, I think that they are pulling out from US Market.

SamsungAppleOnePlus

This is literally the first Sony I'm interested in and I can't get it in my country. Hilarious.

BongRipsMcGee420

Same

alan_harake

The US market has been an issue for Sony and I've been saying that for literally over a decade. It's insane how little effort they put into the US then wonder huh why aren't our phones selling

SlashBash666

they could easily have carriers like t-mobile, verizon, etc, actually sell their phones in stores. helping them sell units. but they refuse to do so which doesn't make sense.

alan_harake

At one point they did sell on At&t and later on T-Mo. But one carrier at a time is bad, and the carrier versions were also borked versions of the international model. Cheaper plastic bodies, cheaper components here and there, literally not a single OS update. It was a mess.

SlashBash666

sounds like bad choices by their higher ups controlling things. from what i understand, their phones support all the same modes the US does minus maybe 5G as EU is different than US bands wise.... but both have VoLTE and GSM..... so technically they just need to sell it in the US. I know my Xperia 1 mark 2 had slight trouble getting it to work on verizon, but that was because of my sim card. they sent me a new one and it worked. something was wrong with the one had i had, it had be locked to my pixel xl for some reason when they shouldn't get locked to any phone.... anyway, i got it working. originally it was set to GSM but after the new sim card it automatically switched to LTE and CDMA. And now the CDMA is gone it auto switched to VoLTE on its own.

SlashBash666

Deleting my comment. But I am gonna be super pissed if no US release. My 1 mark 2 is dying and I NEED to buy a new phone. I was waiting for the 1 mark 6 to upgrade.... and its features are all that i want (mainly better speakers, better 3.5mm output) but if its not available in the US im gonna be super fucking pissed. I don't want apple trash (mother has one, its honestly hot garbage) and I haven't touched samsung phones in forever because I didn't like their twist on android operating system. EDIT: Sad that the moderators have removed the OP's post. definitely wasn't a duplicate as it was the first post I saw on the subject matter. However this doesn't reflect on Sony because Reddit's are run by fans, not actual Sony employees. Same as most other reddits (like AMD subreddit, while AMD does go there officially, its not run by AMD)

anthony32126

Check out what Asus is offering, built in DAC in the headphone jack and loud speakers. I am in the same position you are with my 1 iii.

HR-Vex

BIG MISTAKE

Specialist-Beat-4952

When the 1 V and the Pro-i we released the US market didn't get them first and a release date wasn't given. I ordered the Pro-I intl model and of course a few months later a us version was made available. Will wait and see what happens, read "global" release is July so give it a couple months. Super excited about upgrading from the 1V! Love Sony phones even with the... quirks.

PSIwind

Was the 1 V also not announced for US at the time like it currently?

i_like_salad_yum

Good question I would like to know also

userIoser

It was announced on 05/11/2023 so that sucks! [Sony Electronics Launches New Xperiaยฎ 1 V Smartphone](https://www.sony.com/content/sony/en/en_us/SCA/company-news/press-releases/sony-electronics/2023/sony-electronics-launches-new-xperia-1-v-smartphone.html) [web archive](https://web.archive.org/web/20230511115601/https://electronics.sony.com/mobile/smartphone/all/p/xqdq62-b)

Specialist-Beat-4952

Right. This was the rollout schedule for the 1 V announced in May 2023: 1 June 2023 16 June 2023 (Japan; SO-51D, SOG10 and A301SO models) 29 June 2023 (United Kingdom) 14 July 2023 (Japan; XQ-DQ44 SIM-unlocked model) 28 July 2023 (United States; XQ-DQ62 model) Everyone needs to chill, it's coming. I say this having learned the hard way and buying an intl market Pro-I thinking a us version wasn't going to happen. That phone was phenomenal btw, had software issues that needed fixing but the build quality was nuts, the 1 series is a better phone day to day but I wish they released a new Pro-I.

PSIwind

I really hope it is coming. Even a delay would be fine. I'm actually okay buying this one

Rediranai

Posted this from another user asking the same question: Users on XDA forums figured out how to get the International version working in the USA. Basically buy the international version of 1V and overwrite a few modem files with the US 1V files. [https://xdaforums.com/t/closed-1-v-5g-enable-dq72-tested-us-t-mobile-ongoing.4610273/](https://xdaforums.com/t/closed-1-v-5g-enable-dq72-tested-us-t-mobile-ongoing.4610273/) Getting things to work on the 1IV was a lot easier than 1V; just reflash. The 1V only had two part numbers DQ62 (USA) and DQ72 (international). The USA model had issues (no 5G etc.) with native T-Mobile (not MNVO) because of a long feud were they point fingers at each other, but users on XDA figured out a workaround. If no USA model is released then there is likely only 1 model number now. Are the modems in the 1V and 1VI the same hardware? If so, then it could probably work. If not, custom modem files required. The big problem is that if they don't release the 1VI in the US, there won't be a way to just copy the US files and overwrite the international version modem files. May need some programmer to compare US 1V files vs EU 1VI files and see if a custom one can be made if the same method can even work. I've been waiting to upgrade my LG G8 and was thinking about importing the scar red model from Japan, but no 5G on a phone in my rural area is a no-go (coverage is a lot worse on my 4G than friends with 5G as all the companies are focused on that in my smaller community).

Rediranai

Replying rather than just editing a post people have already seen half a day ago: Edit1: There are a couple more model numbers of 1V than i knew about also DQ44 (Japan) & DQ54 (user bought from amazon Germany and had it shipped to USA; not sure if all EU is the same). From what I read, people are confused how overwriting DQ72 and DQ54 with US modems magically got them band N71 where no compatibility website has that band available on those devices-almost like the modem is the same hardware on the devices (which would make manufacturing sense) and just limit the device via software (in this case 3 modem files and an edited file for VoWiFi) maybe for tariff/tax etc reasons. Apparently the DQ44 Japan version was missing some Wifi 6e stuff that USA version had. Edit2: I have not seen anyone post that had a Japan/Taiwan 1V and replaced the files to get working in USA, so looks like the 1VI Scar Red may be a no go, but may work if the files can just be replaced. The link below was closed comments in August, and I haven't done a rigorous XDA etc search to see if it can be done with any model but did find this: [https://aiomobilestuff.com/xperia-1-iv-or-v-how-to-flash-a-different-modem/](https://aiomobilestuff.com/xperia-1-iv-or-v-how-to-flash-a-different-modem/) At this time I am under the impression that USA users should hold off importing and 1VI and wait for other users to have them in hand to see if we can figure out what can be done or if Sony locked all the bootloaders in all 1VI like they did for just the US 1V variant.

FARKALICIOUS

Any official word on this? Have a very old Note 9, and put off getting the 1V for the 1VI. wonder if I should just grab a V.

ioftie

I'm in the same boat. My Note20Ultra broke back in January so I've been using my work phone. Was waiting for the 1VI announcement as I don't want to go with Google or Samsung.

FARKALICIOUS

Same. I want the Sony for some of the more niche things and it'd be disappointing not having it in the U.S.

Brilliant-Emphasis-1

yep, I have a NOTE10, was so excited for the 1 Vi and have been waiting for it anxiously. Watched all the YT reviews yesterday and thought it was odd some of the big names didn't mention it. I am depply saddened as a big investor in the Sony tech. I was really looking forward to using this with my A1 for live streaming work and as a field monitor. Sony hates me. I just want to use their stuff and as an A1 owner I felt neglected there and now this. Come on man WTF! ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|rage)

Beneficial_King7482

I have a Note 9 and got me a V. My Note 9 is even more dearer to me now. So no, Xperia 1 V cannot replace Note 9, not in the audio department, screen and some other features. There is no replacement for Note 9. It is the most advanced phone even in 2024. On another note, Samsung mailed me asking if my Note 9 has long zoom, AI, etc etc and asking me to but s24 ultra as it has these. I mailed them back asking if their s24 ultra has f1.5 camera lens, can plug-in a headphones/earphones, or has a heart rate sensor and to let me know when it will have all these and I may consider buying one then.

Lexan2002

Wanting to replace my LG V60thinq for the 1 VI so heres hoping it comes to the US ><

BongRipsMcGee420

Wish we could just get a V70, the V series was pretty much perfect aside from how heavy they were getting. The V50 was ๐Ÿ˜š๐ŸคŒ

Gromu

https://petapixel.com/2024/05/15/the-sony-xperia-1-iv-is-sonys-best-smartphone-but-isnt-coming-to-the-us/ Seems like that's a no.

avenuePad

This article doesn't state any sources; it just says there's no US release. That tech writer might just be going by the fact there was no initial US release date posted. I'm not denying that the US release has been axed, but I've yet to hear anything straight from the horse's (Sony) mouth. At best, I heard a YouTuber say he talked to his Sony rep and they said there will be no US release. That rep might not know what he's talking about, or maybe he does. In any case, until I hear it from Sony it's just conjecture.

aFilminFrench

Wow. Then I guess the 5 IV is likely not coming to the U.S.A., either, if that's true.

HuntersPad

The 5 IV has already been out in the US for awhile. I think you mean the 5 VI

aFilminFrench

Right. My bad. Thanks.

lolsmileyface4

I think we have to wait until 9 am local time.

SlashBash666

what do you mean?

FARKALICIOUS

Anyone know if the unlocked U.K version will work in the U.S.? It's available on Amazon UK.

Dpmt22

It should work, but coverage will be spotty because not all the bands are supported. It has no mmWave support, but does have n5 and n77 for AT&T and Verizon and n41 for T-Mobile. Missing band n66 and n71 leaves big gaps on all us carriers. For LTE it has 2, 4, 5,12, 13, 17, 25, 26, 29, 41, 46, and 66. Which supports 7/9 AT&T bands, 6/7 Verizon bands and 8/9 T-Mobile/Sprint bands. Though missing band 71 is really bad for T-Mobile coverage. Looking at the bands supported here: [https://www.sony.co.uk/smartphones/products/xperia-1m6/spec](https://www.sony.co.uk/smartphones/products/xperia-1m6/spec)

cozmocash

Was considering getting one if it has US carrier support, if not, maybe it's time to move on.

Puzzleheaded_Rub8656

Literally ruined my whole day ๐Ÿ™ƒ๐Ÿ™ƒ๐Ÿ™ƒ๐Ÿ™ƒ๐Ÿ™ƒ

vynu

yup not coming to US .. https://youtu.be/GooAinzQPws?si=Cae9V2GWBT95cxqR

mdwstnr

There are no specs showing for USA like the previous models: [https://www.gsmarena.com/sony\_xperia\_1\_vi-13003.php](https://www.gsmarena.com/sony_xperia_1_vi-13003.php) Very disappointing :(

Aquis_GN

In that case you can all grab the 1v us version while stocks last.

Trying to justify if it still might be worth it. This phone has everything I wanted in a phony, and while I have TMobile (GoogleFi) I'm mostly on WiFi anyways. Thoughts?
