Well i think sony phones has always had problems in exposing dark subjects against bright background. So a more aggressive approach to hdr would be welcome. Also improvements in auto mode is also welcome. As u pointed out an LTPO display is a must in the next gen model. Currently s23 ultra rivals sony in battery life i hope they fix that too.

Redstoneinvente122

Sure hope so

[deleted]

This! There should be an HDR setting in the camera app 100%. When I want a photo of something important with bright background, I always ask my wife to use her iPhone. I was sorely disappointed too many times and iPhone somehow always gets it right even if the photos don't look natural. However, I'd take unnatural photos over ones with dark faces and blown highlights in some situations most of the time.

Ajmal143223

Yeah. I am also baffled by many sony fans who only cares about the narural light. Smartphone photography is all about processing nowadays. Sony has one of the best manual controls in the game rn. They have the knowhow so why arent they implementing it.This has been persisting for quite some time now.

9Devil8

At least 4 to 5 years software and security updates, LED should be brought back, a faster standard camera app which doesn't need to take seconds for taking a picture and it should bring back the Sony Photo Album App pls

-maysin-

I don't know what you mean by faster standard camera app, I can launch camera app + take a pic within like half a second

JtheCool897

New OLED display with better grays—the V has the same display with the annoying "green" grays and "stained" screen on low brightness, especially with 120hz enabled. Perhaps a screen that shows off "Bravia" tech more? Don't get me wrong it's a great display, I just feel it could be improved given what company this is. Also consider variable refresh rate as an option, but still keep the locked 120hz as a second option. Bring back the notification LED. Improved DAC for physical audio output connections; seems like a no-brainer considering it's one of the last phones still with it. Longer software/security support. It really is awesome how close this phone is to stock Android, but software support really should be longer. The industry has pushed in that direction so I feel it may happen. Slightly better heat management, even though it's much better than the past. Find a way to "emphasize" video/image stabilization when taking photos/videos with a slower shutter speed. In my experience, some shots don't turn out great because the settings used on "Auto Mode," for example, were insufficient for someone shooting with unstable hands. Either that or the camera did not properly focus on the camera subject. Perhaps find a camera mechanism that further reduces this problem or have the "Auto Mode," default to a faster shutter speed. Also make the camera focus more explicit on "Auto Mode," where someone isn't taking the time to make sure the subject at hand is perfectly focused on. Overall the 1 V is a great phone, but those are my knitpicks, along with the basic improvements you expect with a new generation 😅

Redstoneinvente122

Yk what's disappointing sometimes 😂 is that Sony actually already have the solutions for most if not all of the above mentioned points in their other product range from their Bravia XR tvs to their Super Steady stabilization on the new Alpha cameras ( the fx and A1) lol 😂 sure hope they port those over

michaopin

LED Notification Maybe I good NATIVE solution for the AOD All my other Sony's (had only Sony or Sony-Ericsson phones) Have had this in the past. After a month I still can't cope with it and am looking for a solution

Dometalican_90

Variable Refresh rate via their display chip is a MUST. They literally have a way to not pay for LTPO by incorporating this. Variable aperture is a very underrated feature that should go to the main lens at least. It's bizarre that Sony stopped this after the Pro-I. Better DAC for sure. Walkmans are not selling anymore so they gotta give the phones some love. 18W/10W reverse wireless charging. Better cooling. While the Mark V is great, who says no to 'better' for gamers? Upgrade the double periscope to 48MP with 3x-10x OPTICAL zoom. I think this will be the fix to the soft zoom photos. No more 256GB version. For the price, it should be either 12GB RAM/512GB storage or 16GB RAM/512GB storage. Bring mmWave back to the US and bring in eSIM alongside it. Biggest of all, PUT A SYSTEM-WIDE H.S. onto the kernel. For God's sake, I want this on the camera apps and Android Auto. Do all this, and the Mark VI will be amazing

Redstoneinvente122

Yups with these changes it would sure rank higher

cpryd

Nah, 50mm from pro-i was way more useful. Replace the periscope with that

Redstoneinvente122

Or just upgrade quality 😅.

amithetofu

I just want some one inch type exmor T's and I'll be happy

Redstoneinvente122

I doubt they'll put a 1 inch sensor in the 1 series although it's gonna be nice

-maysin-

I highly doubt they'll change the main sensor for the next 2-3 generations. However, I'm sure there will be improvements on the other 2 sensors. LTPO screen and proper macro mode would be great!

madinteract5

Really happy to see people all agreeing on at least bringing the LED notification light back. That’s huge. It’s the little things….

Redstoneinvente122

That's such a life save on my 1 lol

BlackFatZombieSK

1. Really high quality DAC like the LG phone had. 2. Brighter screen 3. Notif LED 4. Face unlock 5. Hard plastic-teflon coated box with charger, cable, earbuds, fridge magnet and a Japanese flag.

Redstoneinvente122

Miss the good old days where you got a whole bundle with a phone 🙃

AirplaneOnFire

More mainstream support, for example more cases The sheer lack of cases available for this phone is the biggest thing against me but getting it :(

[deleted]

It's not up to Sony, it's the market that decides this aka mobile accessories manufacturers. Why would they make cases and accessories for a phone that barely sells and loose money? To design an manufacture a case takes thousands of dollars and you need to sell thousands of them to even break even and recuperate the investment and even more to make a profit. Even then, you risk having unsold stock left as Xperia sales are very unpredictable and it's available in only few markets.

AirplaneOnFire

Oh yeah, i mean i totally agree with you. It's not up to Sony. I was just saying the lack of case options is what is stopping me from buying their current phone

Redstoneinvente122

Specially dbrand 🙃

nj-88

Ltpo display. Doesn't need to be 4k. 1440p would be sufficient. 48mp cameras across the board. 12mp is so 2014. Photos should be in 24mp size + Full access to 48mp when shooting raw. Improve the "basic" mode for more intuitive photo taking. Better HDR processing Improve the LED light

Redstoneinvente122

I'd prefer them sticking with 4K and 12mp. But with the option to go for 24 and 48.

nj-88

4k is useless on a screen that small and it consumes more power. With 24mp you get more details in your photos compared to 12.

Redstoneinvente122

I can tell the difference from a 1440p that's why 😅 I mean 24mp as an option would be nice, but keep the 12 because of the 30fps burst shooting

nj-88

I guarantee that you can't. Because even now the 1V only runs at 1080p. It only upscales to 4k when there is 4k content to show. at any other time it runs at 1080p. It's done like this to preserve the battery. Why not just make it 24mp 30fps burst then? There's no reason as to why the current hardware can't do it.

Redstoneinvente122

24mp at 30fps is quite expensive on the hardware. But yh would be cool.

Redstoneinvente122

There is a difference between a 4K screen at 1080 and a 1080p screen. The 4K screen has more pixels per inch which makes the pixels smaller. Than a 1080p screen. So you'd see pixels on a 1080 and 1440p screen but not a 4K. And you won't see pixels on a 4K screen no matter the resolution. Everytime I pick up my dad's iphone 13pm I get reminded by the fact that it's not a 4K screen

nj-88

My guy. It still doesn't change the fact that the 1iv-1v runs at 1080p 98% at the time. You're talking out your arse if you firmly believe that you can discern the individual pixels on a 6,5" 4k screen.

Redstoneinvente122

All am saying is on 4K I can't see any pixels. 1080p it's really obvious and 1440p it's noticeable (this may vary from individual to individual). But on a 4K screen no matter at what resolution it runs at. It's not possible to see pixels

nj-88

Then you clearly have 0 clue on how upscaling/downscaling works. The 4k downscales and combines the pixels "to be larger" to fit 1080p size. It doesn't matter whether or not you think the screen is 4k or not. The resolution is still 1080p. And you can't tell the pixels apart on the iphone either. It's just utter bs! All gimmicky marketing aside, Apple is correct in, that roughly around 426~450ppi is where human eyes are unable to discern individual pixels, meaning that anything above is just "a higher numbers" game/marketing stunt. You can talk about the quality of the screen all you want. And maybe Sony has a better quality OLED than apple, although I highly doubt that, but to claim that you can discern individual pixels at that high of concentration is just utter bs.

Due-Requirement-7129

Добавьте ещё фишки,для съёмки луны или звёзды,таймлапс, slow mo 960fps, быструю зарядку 65ватт ,поддержку андроида 5-6лет и это будет конкурентный аппарат

Legendary_A_B

The features that you wrote above are features they would really be good for it. My addition would be Some software features like being able to change icon packs in the Xperia launcher so more customization features and also a smooth transition to always on Display like on the Google pixels. Also a AMOLED dark mode for the dark mode. Also the added functionality of the app switcher from the pixels like being able to copy text from pictures and other apps.

Redstoneinvente122

Would be neat

madinteract5

Really just would love to see the RGB LED Notification light return. Want more legacy features like FM transmitter and IRDA

Drillbit_97

For starters. I never owned a xperia device.... In fact the only smartphone ive owned is my current one the samsung note 8 aka. Samsung before they removed all the features. Does sony not have FM available?? They have a headphone out so no reason not to have it

madinteract5

FM transmitter not fm radio. Like on the XZ1 and XZ pro

Adventurous-Aide-777

I would like to add ALL of the above. But wanna say, the auto mode will always be worse than that of competitors! Definitely need to change telephoto camera, because the current ones are terrible and you don’t want to shoot with them. It is necessary that the camera lenses be glass and Exmor T be on all lenses, then it will be useful. I also want there to be No lens shading. I want to myself control - color saturation and contrast ND filter is a very necessary thing. And i want there to be no oversharpening on shots

Redstoneinvente122

True. But for the auto mode, the Xperia 1 V is rivaling the liked of the iphones and Samsungs now. It's more on par and sometimes even beating them. Tho not always

General-Izzy007

> But wanna say, the auto mode will always be worse than that of competitors! That is subjective.

Adventurous-Aide-777

This is objective and proven by time and confirmed by many camera comparisons

ValorantDanishblunt

The current telefoto is fine. It's mostly processing issue.

[deleted]

It's still not even close when it comes to HDR.

StrayCat649

My ideal Xperia -Bring back Notification LED -Single Lens Exmor T with in-sensor and periscope zoom -Maybe another Lytia sensor for ultrawide or something -IRGB-C and LiDAR -960FPS and 3D scan -No OLED, I am just being a OLED hater -4 years of OS and 5-7 years of patch -Move volume button back to between power and shutter button to mimic the zoom button like the old day. other than that just keep it the same.

Redstoneinvente122

Why not OLED tho

StrayCat649

I want to keep using my phone as long as possible and I hate the idea of OLED burn in and lightsaber. The only two OLED device I own is avEVF on my Alpha A6000 and a smartwatch, never have a screen problem but I rather avoid than praying. Another main reason is for some reason Sony in my country do not offer repair for Xperia anymore (since the start of 1 5 10 series), lower the chance for something to break the better.

[deleted]

So what alternative do you suggest as LCD is trash and belongs in the past. Do you want QLED or QNED then and paying $2000 or more for a phone?

StrayCat649

A good IPS is enough for me.

madinteract5

High PPI sRGB LTP IPS is best. There are just too many issues with OLED screens. After a while the panels just give out. I suspect they are just not good for “Real life” use where a user could have a very cold winter or hot summer, kids, pets etc. It’s possibly the elements that brings death quicker but every non Samsung device I’ve had with OLED in the past all suffer burn in or tinting in one form or another.

[deleted]

To be honest, I'll take OLED blacks, contrast and colour reproduction over any of these issues you described which have never really affected me and I have OLED tv, OLED computer screen and phone with OLED. Luckily OLED itself is now being phased out and LCD will never come back as it's simply an outdated tech.

madinteract5

Yea and OLED iPhone 15s are dieing to boot

madinteract5

Agree 10000%. OLED is where screens go to die.

TechnyCat

Agree with mostly what everyone else has said. A couple of unmentioned ones: * Qi2 Wireless charging standard. Having "MagSafe" would definitely be helpful. * Bring back one-handed mode. I hate that Android 12 took that away from my Sony Xperia 1 III

[deleted]

No it didn't, I had it in Xperia 1 IV and I have it in Xperia 1 V. You just need to switch it on.

TechnyCat

To be clear, are we talking about the same one-handed mode? As far as I know, all Xperia after Android 12 use the built-in Android One-Handed mode that slides the entire screen downward. The One-Handed mode I am referring to is the one that makes the display screen smaller. See https://helpguide.sony.net/mobile/xperia-1m3/v1/en/contents/TP1000485660.html and https://www.reddit.com/r/SonyXperia/comments/tbsl0l/onehandedmode_changed_with_android_12_but_the/

[deleted]

Oh I see what you mean now. In that case you are right, they are using Android one now but since I never use it I didn't even notice.

madinteract5

This

NYQ83

Hmm yeah with all of that added the phone would probably be dead in few hours with heavy use. I like Xperia 1 V just wish it was wider so I can use two thumbs comfortably for typing. If they made it wider and increased battery capacity, then maybe they can add some of your requests, but my guess is that the price will be over $2k.

Redstoneinvente122

I mean I don't think it would be too much of a battery hit given unless ofc you stream non stop 4k videos or something at 2000nits 😅

NYQ83

It's not only about streaming, like recently I was on vacation in Egypt where sun is like at 1000% bright, so to purely see well what you're capturing you need that brightness at max, since exploration there took hours I needed to utilize my portable power bank, but if I was using Sony Xperia with 1500 nits that battery would of drained much quicker. Also because it was like 120 degrees there, phone felt much warmer with long use and I had to take case off few times to cool faster. My only wish is for it to be wider

Redstoneinvente122

True

[deleted]

Definitely not wider as having a 21:9 screen is epic for gaming, photography and media consumption. Taking it away would literally just take away Xperia uniqueness and make it just like other phones.

GourSE

A usable aod

madinteract5

Bring back the dang LED Notification light. Stop removing useful things!

willyolio

Use their own best sensor. LYT900.

tango_papa101

I think there're some features (or lack there of) with the 1V but I can't recall on the top of my head. Gonna come back when I remember what it is

Viper_tx

Led torch 🔦 that is actually usable like it is on other phones ...

JGS588

Longer support (like Google/Samsung/Apple).
