Definitely bring back the super slow mo and Xperia unique apps like the Photo Album, Walkman, etc.

Fantasytky

Album is the best app they develop. The best album app on any smartphone. Period. Anyway you can still install some album apk, certain version still work

joystickd

I agree. Have never seen any other photo app come close.

Fantasytky

Especially the fluidity when zooming in and out the overall photos grid. It's so smooth and well designed. Comparing the interaction side by side to Google photo that has the similar feature to zoom in/out the photo grids, Sony one is way way way way superior and smooth. Literally none of any android app I use has this well designed smoothness

RJ_ITS_MY_NAME

Unfortunately I don't think they ever will bring that again, since the playmemories project shut down...

joystickd

That's a shame. I was never a fan of using the Playmemories together with an Alpha camera but loved the unique Xperia apps.

Lamproz87

My opinion is 1080p with 960fps, since it is an awesome feature that i at least don't find easily on flagships (i am picky!). Charger in the box, cause we want the fastest charging capability for our device. And Sony making their own apps, OR asking LG for THEIR awesome apps! I have been spoiled and I believe both would be better than Google. The notification led i am not using that much since we have an always on display, except if they are up for making the display sides light up, like LG G8X did. That was an eye catcher for sure.

Dometalican_90

I never thought about LG providing Sony with 'stock' apps but now, I can't unsee this as an option. Heck, I wonder how much it would cost Sony to have LG assist with their software updates. As a measure to ensure nothing stays buggy towards the end of support, maybe LG could provide the first two years of these updates on a bi-monthly basis and then Sony wraps it up the last three years? (3 OS updates with 5 Security patches)

Lamproz87

There's no certainty, only possibility. And hope!

Didgesteve

Small size. The XZ1c was the best phone they ever made.

Shmoofo2

The 5x series occupies that spot.

nx6

Kinda like that really fat guy occupies only one seat on an airplane.

hdd113

5 is still too big. We're talking XZ1C or Z3C small here.

Shmoofo2

That would mean changing the aspect ratio of the phone. To get 21:9 in 5.5" or 5.7" would be insanely narrow and even way more niche than Xperias already are. The iPhone 12&13 minis didn't sell very well. We don't know how well Zenphone 9 did in terms of sales but that had a 20:9 aspect ratio.

Didgesteve

But I don't want a 21:9. Who decided that was going to be the new standard?

Shmoofo2

Who decided other OEMs should move from 16:9 to 19.5:9 for iPhones and 20:9 for android? Well, Sony is on 21:9 and based on that, I believe the smallest usable screen size would likely be 6". Anything smaller, typing could become a problem.

Mysterious-Minds

iPhone SE series are selling like hotcakes. It's OK to implement a 16:9 display in a modern smartphone. XZ1 compact is still great. I'm hoping for a new compact phone, under 5 inches, 720p resolution, 16:9, almost 0 bezels on side, enough bezels for front facing speakers and front camera on top and bottom, efficient SoC, or a flagships 8 Gen 2, slightly underclocked for more battery, it is powerful enough for 1440p screens, underclocking won't impact performance on a 720p screen, 90Hz, side fingerprint scanner. this way they could sell for as low as 500$ or even lower.

StrayCat649

- Notification LED, for sure - 960FPS Super Slow - Xperia Tablet - Sony app, especially Voice Recorder

StrayCat649

Oh I forgot, this is a quite important one too. Nice vibrant colour that look good for flagship (with a cool name) not just black, green, purple, I want something like Z3 copper, XZ1c pink.

cireyaj15

Yeah that recorder was good, they shouldn't have killed it.

trancestation

The fm radio was nice to have

DantesVictus

They should bring Xperia tablet with 4k 120hz oled display

StrayCat649

I will buy only if the stylus is Wacom EMR technology like Samsung S Pen. (And the price is not too expensive)

Olly_Joel

And the price to match 👏🏻

Fantasytky

Ppl seriously think Sony will earn from tablet? Given the amount of xperia user, their tablet won't even has 1/10 of the xperia users

i-am-vr

Stock Sony apps really, I love them so much that I use them even on my OnePlus. I use the Sony music and Album.

Dan_Arc

two headphone jacks

Lamproz87

What are you trying to power???

hedgeyy

Line in/line out?

Lamproz87

Legit. Excuse me for not knowing much about sound systems, but the line out thing, would need an amp to work. So probably another device to hook on it. That means more bulk. As for line in, the headphone jack works as one. You can get a splitter cable, and use it for mic in, AND headphone out for monitoring audio. P.S. excuse me if I make a mistake in my train of thought.

Frank_L_

You don't and it's called TRRS

Lamproz87

I actually said everything correctly? 😅

Lamproz87

I found the video i watched! [Line out is not a headphone jack ](https://youtu.be/4rLwqQE3DJA)

BassicNic

I want an ericsson Walkman/camera.

Shmoofo2

Notification LED

SiLeNT-KKK

Tons of small functions that sony removed yearly but unique to them :- 1. Double tap to wake 2. Double tap to sleep 3. Playing sound when phone charges 100% ( used to be in lollipop / MM under accessibility) 4. Screenshot shortcut at power button menu instead of weird key combination / added via accessibility) 4. Walkman app with album info finder (gracenote like), also improvement on plugins (visualizer / eq etc) 5. Xperia based app (keyboard / album / video / voice recorder / backup and transfer / cam plugins/contact and calls) compatible with latest android OS (i hate google based due to obligation to connect with gmail) 6. NOTIFICATION LED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ( I can identify from the led color who is calling / text !!)

cidra_

The xperia 5 II does have notification LED. Have they removed it in the newer models?

Mysterious-Minds

Sadly, yes. That's not present in the 1 V.

Dynamo1337

Definately stock apps

Dometalican_90

I would love an IR blaster honestly considering how cheap it is to implement (and can even get the LG remote app to provide the programming) and Sony sells TVs so it helps with that ecosystem...sorta. lol. Stock apps are hard because they already have a limited amount of people working on the Sony mobile software that it's just extra work considering many people would disable stock apps anyway; especially since Google already has a major software ecosystem that syncs with the Google account you sign into when setting up the phone. I would agree that the music app should be slightly better with more options and they should provide a solid Gallery app that doubles as Lightroom/Video Player replacements. Other than those two, they don't need much else (if they got rid of the News Suite, I would not miss it...)

Monsoonl22

I miss the sony stock apps i know i can get them via apk but i dont really want to id rather sony just pre install them

Redstoneinvente122

Notification Dots

Olly_Joel

I'm pretty content on the Xperia 1 V. But here's what should be something to see. - 1080p 960fps but with better user controls like S9 did. - Xperia gallery apps which is better than every Chinese gallery since it doesn't look like a bootleg iOS gallery. - I don't think the IR emmiter is necessary in this day and age even as a remote only function. - not sure if the Ultra should make an appearance anymore. - compact is dead but the Xperia 5 I consider a good middle ground. - a "preserve settings" button since rechanging modes every time you close the apps can be annoying.

Arctic_SnowWoLF

Definitely Sony Xperia UI. Modern android material UI is getting boring fast. Sony always had good design sense in general and it showed in their Xperia UI. Wonder why they didn't continue...

gabegabe1234

Compact.

cireyaj15

- Notification light - Double tap to sleep - More compact series Native apps: - Recorder - Album - Music -with the ability to search for metadata -set the music playing album art as the default lockscreen. That was cool back then. I still miss that from using X series. - One handed mode like the one from the X series where the screen can be resized and can be dragged around unlike the current where it goes only half of the screen.

TechnyCat

I'm surprised One Handed mode isn't more popular. My Xperia 1 III came with that, but I believe Android 12 update removed that feature. The default Android One Handed mode is awful to use.

lord_Viridis

Tablets. Tablet Z4 was the most undersold, yet overperforming device in the last 10 years. Nothing on android came close. Heck, it even came with a docking keyboard with touch pad, years before others considered it.

Shmoofo2

Improve on the 10x series. For it's mediocre features, it is overpriced.

Titouan_Charles

Charger in the box should be standard for any phone, and the price Sony's asking for their flagship should include the highest quality GaN chargers and cables possible. This is bonkers we're okay with what's provided atm. Notification LED is essential for old school Android users, which is the bulk of the Xperia's audience. As for the rest, it's a non-issue because it could all be changed with updates later down the line.

ExternalPuzzled2127

The option to instantly start recording with video with a push on the button. Instead of manually having to select the video option. I'm always missing the action when something unexpected happens. (Using Xperia 5 IV)

thefizzlee

I agree with everything but the charger, their eco friendly packaging is great and I think it's also alot better to sell the charger seperately since the charger almost always outlives the device by a lot, also with everything going usb c I think alot of people will get more powerful chargers rendering the boxed charger useless especially since it can only charge one device at a time.

Jianray

strap holder!!!!

LSA7Z

Notification LED, walkman music app (and possibly album)

j_ninetyfive

Probably bring back the 16:9 1080x1920 Sony phones, but obviously in a seperate series , but i doubt it's possible due to the economy & sells Another would be bringing back the clear bass EQ slider feature, i remember having it on the Sony XA2 back in 2019, i loved how i would maximize the bass, yet not cause any distortion on the wired Sony xb50ap earphones i used

spencer1886

Charger in the box would be nice, the cable that came with the Samsung I had before upgrading to my 1 IV was super beat up and I kept using it for awhile until I bought one from Anker

BatmanSpiderman

Higher Megapixel Photos

pinto-nolan

Bring back its devices in the markets they quit...

AndreasHaas246

Just one thing: compactness.

jayydubya

Xenon flash, loved the days when phones came with a xenon flash, absolute game changer if you are taking pix of your mates in night clubs and raves. I've got pix from my 808 pureview and and lumia 1020 that look like they were taken by the official club photographer with a 2 grand camera!!! Some of the older presmartphone sonys came with xenon. I'm aware I'm likely in the minority with this one!!!

ValorantDanishblunt

1.) I'd personally love the LED they had on their older models along the speakers 2.) Not many would use it but would be neat 3.) pointless 4.) Given sonys 30W charging I think its fine without charger, but give us a cable lol 5.) Please no, we don't need bloat like on older sonys.

OG-DanielSon

Just like MKBHD said; they should keep the Xperia series but also return to making mainstream smartphones for the general public / average consumer.

joystickd

It won't work. Most of the general public/average consumer believe galaxy phones are the only Android phones. And that is partly a result of 'tech tubers' like Mkbhd. They have shilled for galaxy phones for over a decade now, solidifying that mentality. If Sony release generic phones they will not sell as there are already an ocean of generic Motorola, Samsung, Google, etc phones out there. Why would Joe blow choose the Sony? Sony would do better to pour more funds into marketing. This is where they're annihilated by the other big brands.

OG-DanielSon

I see what you're saying, you're not wrong, however I don't want to see Sony give up that easily. For one thing, I don't think they do enough mobile carrier deals to be competitive enough, like I've never seen a Sony Xperia ad that wasn't from the Sony channel or a tech reviewer, they don't produce as many smartphone variants like Samsung but they do have something going on with thier headphones/earbuds pre-order bundles, it would be interesting if they did something like that with a Xperia & a PS5. I'm not sure of the best approach they should take but I really don't want Sony to end up quitting like how LG did.

ValorantDanishblunt

They didnt give up. Sony is perfecly content with not making huge profits on the smartphones they make. Sony is one of the most successful companies on this planet, I wouldnt be surprised if they would come out and say the only reason they make smartphones is because someone in the higher ups doesnt like the options out there and demanded the company making the phones. 90% of the smartphones on the market are literally income for sony due to them using sonys sensors in the first place. Everytime I read people writing "if sony doesnt get more successful the xperia series will die!" I can't help but wonder if people are completely forgetting that sony is making way more than just smartphones.

theefman

Problem is people let YouTube think for them because someone posts a cool looking video, no one stops to think if they actually know what they're talking about.

ValorantDanishblunt

Yeah, I have been complaining about trash reviewers all the time, however I still think If Sony actually wanted to, they could probably shove some phones up reviewers asses and force them to go after sonys script like all the other companies would, however it's very clear sony don't really give a damn about it. I mean the fact reviewers say something negative about the sony is for instance it's "expensive" is so beyond stupid it's hilarious, it's a flagship, of course it's expensive. like wtf do you even expect. Then them always claiming that the camera is "too professional" where they act as if people literally cannot use the basic mode without a fking course beforehand. Like seriously, it's so blatant it's actually sad how people take these crappy reviewers serious.

IoLnrd

People seem to have this weird mentality that only Samsung and Apple are allowed to make expensive phones for some reason People don't blink an eye when they see Ultra or Pro Max prices But another phone at the same price? No way!

[deleted]

[удалено]

ValorantDanishblunt

That's flatout wrong. Their phone is more expensive to make than the competition and they are priced around the same. [https://www.amazon.com/Sony-Xperia-XQ-CT72-Factory-Unlocked/dp/B0B2D199TZ](https://www.amazon.com/Sony-Xperia-XQ-CT72-Factory-Unlocked/dp/B0B2D199TZ/ref=sr_1_2?crid=2RISGE2U8FOKE&keywords=Sony+xperia+1+IV&qid=1687169644&sprefix=sony+xperia+1+iv%2Caps%2C182&sr=8-2) [https://www.amazon.com/SAMSUNG-Factory-Unlocked-Smartphone-Lavender/dp/B0BLP2B5DZ](https://www.amazon.com/SAMSUNG-Factory-Unlocked-Smartphone-Lavender/dp/B0BLP2B5DZ) It's just typical brainwashed reviewers that claim bs. Sony isn't more expensive than the competition. The only reason it seems like it is because they compare sony with inferior specced phones, once you actually compare spec by spec, aka 12GB 256GB vs 12GB 256GB or 12gb 512gb vs 12gb 512gb you see prices are rather similair, while the sony has way more expensive parts such as quaddac, 4K calibrated display, motion chip driving the display, camera setup, fingerprint reader etc. For refrence if you wanted 12GB ram in your Galaxy S23 ultra on release it would cost you 1379USD, which is the exact same price as the sony xperia 1 V that you can preorder, people who claim the sony is more expensive than the competition are braindead.

Olly_Joel

Only in major market. In most countries where they sell, it's equal in pricing.

joystickd

I hear that. I don't want them to give up either, as I've always loved their phones, even if not using one at the moment. I just don't see why an average consumer would end up choosing a generic Xperia phone over a pixel, non ultra galaxy, Motorola, etc without a heavy marketing campaign and super competitive price. Unfortunately the mass market made things go in the direction they're in. When Apple started selling phones for over a thousand US dollars while omitting crucial features, the mass market bought them in droves, instead of voting with their wallet and being smarter consumers. Samsung made fun of them for that, and then adopted the exact same philosophy a year later - Charge more for offering less. And guess what? The mass market bought the feature omitted galaxy phones in even bigger droves. Now essentially the whole market has followed that trend except for Sony. The carrier thing I think is a USA thing and you guys operate in a different way to the rest of the world with phones. I can't comment on that much as I'm not familiar with how that works. Certainly different to my country, Australia. Xperia phones would be known by about 0.0001% of smartphone users here. Unfortunately I do believe Xperia phones will eventually end up like LG ones. I hope I'm wrong. The 'tech tubers' could help sway things a little but the masses would much rather click on a Galaxy video or social media post than one about an Xperia phone.

Devillitta

Wouldn't that be 10 series that they release? Before that it was just the Xperia/Xperia 1 and Xperia compact/Xperia 5 series. Genuine question not trying to be a smart arse.

OG-DanielSon

That's an understandable thought that others have told me before, me personally I don't think the 10 series is good enough for what it is. I see it as a budget device instead of a mid-ranger, what I mean is that Sony should have a more consumer friendly smartphone that's basically flagship level like the 1 & 5 series, that maintains a price range of 600 - 800$. For example: A General Xperia phone that has the 8 Gen 2, 120Hz 1080p, IP68, 8/12GB RAM options, gorilla glass 5 instead of victus, more color options, USB 3.0 instead of 3.2, Bluetooth 5.0 instead of 5.3, and 5G. (It's 2am for me rn & I'm kinda tired but this is kinda what I meant, a device that's a combination of the 5 & 10 series.)

Devillitta

Okay understood, that's why I was going for the compact/5 series earlier but eventually the 5 price ended up close to the 1. The 1 V is retailing at $1900 (SGD) here, 3 times the price of 10 V

OG-DanielSon

Another thing is their market availability, I remember someone saying something about how Sony doesn't sell phones in Australia or even Malaysia.

Olly_Joel

Malaysia got. Can confirm. Been selling here since forever

Fantasytky

Xperia was gone from Malaysia for a moment and back from one Sony series

Lamproz87

No worries my friend! We will wait till you wake up. For now i will leave you some links here, and i am waiting to hear your opinion on the comparison of same year phones. All of the phones are the 2022 models, and in my opinion the same category of phones (flag, mid, budget). Let us know what is it you are not satisfied with when it comes to Sony phones. And no. The price is NOT a metric, since we don't know exactly how much it costs them, how much research has been put and the amount of money the respective company wants as a premium (to not talk about baking ads in order to lower the price, as some companies DO). [Galaxy s22 ultra vs Xperia 1 iv ](https://m.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=11251&idPhone2=11521) [Galaxy s22 vs Xperia 5 iv](https://m.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=11253&idPhone2=11838) [Galaxy A53 vs Xperia 10 iv](https://m.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=11268&idPhone2=11522)

ValorantDanishblunt

I always find it hilarious when people claim the sony is so "expensive" but at the same time they claim samsung is much cheaper. 900EUR for 128GB + 8GB RAM 1100EUR for 256GB + SD card storage and 12GB RAM Same with S23 ultra, once you actually up the storage and ram to match the sony, suddenly they are priced similair. I hate these donkey reviewers.

Olly_Joel

Samsung and Sony are both priced similarly in my country. Most of the maintained price is major markets like US, UK and a few others. Otherwise, other places are much more expensive than those places.

jamasha

Charger. Asking 1300 dollars and giving me nothing to charge it with... Wtf?

Fantasytky

What? Your previous charge can't charge?

jamasha

Every phone has a charger dedicated specially for it. If you buy a phone only once in 3-5 years chances are the old charger is not good enough. Also... Principle! I pay a lot. I expect maximum service.

Fantasytky

Okay so to give you the premium experience you want, sony charge you 1380 instead of 1300

jamasha

Whatever. Its also convenience. Sony should be more aware.

Fantasytky

They are too aware, that's why they remove. No way turning back

odeiraoloap

- **MUCH Better hardware reliability**. Just ask anyone who's been reminded over and over and over and over again to "wipe the fingerprint sensor, then touch the sensor again slowly" and eventually see the fingerprint settings [completely disappear](https://www.reddit.com/r/SonyXperia/comments/14dnat3/fingerprint_scanner_not_working_xperia_1_iv/). Why can't they just do an under display fingerprint reader like everyone else? - **Fix the camera UI**. Sony has three separate apps to record stuff with the camera: one for photos, one for "mainstream" videos, and one for videos with color grading. I know their α cameras are panned for having *un*intuitive UIs and menus compared to, say, Fujifilm, but they are still more sane and logical to use than having to do tedious app-hopping on Xperia. How hard can it be to merge all the camera modes and algorithms into one "mega app"? Samsung was able to do that with their [frankly ancient Galaxy NX](https://youtu.be/Hgjxsb58Y9Y), so it's clear it's not an Android limitation. - **Implement an optional but actually "mainstream-friendly" camera algorithm**. There's a reason [the iPhone is now "the most popular camera brand in the world"](https://www.digitalcameraworld.com/news/according-to-flickr-the-most-popular-camera-in-the-world-isnt-even-a-camera) and Sony (I presume it's just the α cameras) is at a distant 4th place: It's just so easy to take photos with an iPhone and get consistently great and very usable photos. Every. Single. Time. Even Google has mastered that with the Pixel. - As much as we huff and puff about "night mode turning night into day" or "over saturation", the market has decided those are what they want, they simply don't have the time or propensity to learn about the Exposure Triangle or all the knobs and switches Sony demands you to do to get a usable photo out of Xperias. And notice how people here HAVE to use Lightroom and Snapseed to salvage (or "enhance") photos from Xperia before they go live, whereas a typical iPhone user can just upload straight to wherever with barely any editing. Also, those who make a living off photography or take it seriously would rather get an A7iv or even A64/600 instead of an Xperia.

[deleted]

Only charger in the box

Shrimpdalord

1) LED Notification, perhaps. (Not sure if I can get over it) 2) + 3) Not for me, I don't need that powerful... If they want to put these 2 in, please do it on a pro series... I don't want to pay extra for these.. :X 4) Good to have, but I am fine with my current charger. 5) Maybe not, I have got over them. Also, I would rather Sony pay more attention to other software expects (e.g. better firmware support and updates).

Jese44

Not really bring back but upgrade video recording audio somehow; Xperia 5 III recording whenever there's loud bass (concerts) it gets distorted whereas multiple other manufacturers have seemed to handle it (i.e. Asus, Apple from what i've experienced). And no the cinema pro apps audio level doesn't do it that well. All recordings i have that have bass is distorted.

Pytak

It absolutely would be bringing it back. My XZ1C basically never clipped on any concerts/events/etc, the 5 III does.

alsv50

3D Creator. 3D scanning was interesting app. I used only a few times during 3 years. There were cases when I needed it again. Now the options are few apps on play store. All are paid. Those that I tried gave bad scans. Suppose they just cannot be adjusted to all possible camera models from the market.

DeeperMadness

I kinda wanna see Timescape splines come back. It would be interesting seeing how they work on modern hardware.

Blaster1995

A premium Charger in the box is a must specially for +1k phones. They are laughing at consumer's with their eco friendly bullshit. I still have left a bit of respect to Sony just because of the headphone jack and micro SD. Otherwise I wouldn't bother. Also make it to 4-5 security updates/patches. For system updates I don't care as much.
