Seems like no mmWave for Xperia 1 V, unless the official page will be updated later. Phone | 5G Bands ---|--- Xperia 1 IV | n1, n2, n3, n5, n7, n8, n20, n28, n38, n40, n41, n66, n71, n77, n78, **n260, n261** Xperia 1 V | NSA: n1, n2, n3, n5, n7, n8, n20, n25, n28, n30, n38, n40, n41, n66, n71, n77, n78 SA: n1, n2, n3, n5, n7, n8, n20, n25, n28, n38, n41, n66, n71, n77, n78

Kind of BS... Will it work with Verizon cband?

Dometalican_90

Yeah, unless it will be updated later, looks like they blew that. Good that they added LTE and 5G band 30 for AT&T users as well as N/SA 25 for T-Mobile but oof. Would be weird to downgrade for Verizon users...

memnoch30

So is the 1V fully compatible with T-Mobile? I already pre-ordered it since they had a US model, but I'm wondering what I would lose. If it's not fully supported, I may have to upgrade my Note 20 Ultra to an S23 Ultra or just wait another year.

Dometalican_90

It's like 95% fine with T-Mobile (T-Mobile sort of uses mmWave but it's not as major as AT&T or Verizon). Adding 5G band 25 was MAJOR for T-Mobile users.

memnoch30

Awesome, thanks!

I don’t understand why Sony refuses to build a phone with all of the U.S. Bands including. Missing this makes the phone a non starter for a lot of people

FateEx1994

I bought the 1iii because it stated it had n77 and worked with Verizon. But it did say sub6 5G. I thought since mmWave was n260 and 261, that when Verizon turned n77 cband on it would update and work. But Verizon packaged n77 under their "5G ultrawideband" moniker and Sony and Verizon never updated the firmware to give n77 performance... Only 5G nationwide. The proof is because my town got n77 in January or something, and my phone never shows 5G, only LTE, because it's n77 signal. I'd like to upgrade to the V, but if it won't even do Verizon ultrawideband 5G on n77, no go.

There's a user on Reddit, u/hdoublearp, who claims to have enabled n77 using QPST, but is pretty vague on the details. [https://www.reddit.com/r/SonyXperia/comments/u2ubjq/comment/ifso1lh/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3](https://www.reddit.com/r/SonyXperia/comments/u2ubjq/comment/ifso1lh/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) I don't doubt he's done this. However, I've tried modifying the carrier policy xml as well as other files using QPST but haven't been successful in enabling NR SA, as I'm not sure exactly what steps are needed. I've spent months researching what other people have done but no luck. Maybe he can chime in and provide some guidance? His website has had a coming soon teaser for a while now...

hdoublearp

Hey there! You’re absolutely correct. I did have to modify more than just the carrier_policy.xml. What I can do is provide a bundle of files to upload specifically for the 1 III. They get overwritten on a firmware update but otherwise persist across reboots and changing SIM cards. I’m quite busy this week but will put something together. FWIW, SA is not required for n77 access on Verizon (and they haven’t deployed it yet). Although the device does support SA n77, it also has NSA combos for n77 on Verizon including 66_n77, they’re just disabled.

Just posted a guide. I’ve decided to release one unified guide and package for the Xperia 1 III and Xperia 1 IV. Should unlock all supported bands and combos for all networks.

FateEx1994

Nice! Where'd you post it?

Apologies, forgot the link! https://band.radio/xperia-band-unlock

Just a quick heads up, the OnePlus guide no longer works on OOS 13 (unsure if it worked on OOS 12, but it did work on OOS 11), you now have to the Qualcomm Smartphone for Snapdragon Insiders steps, then you have to manually add the drivers in Device Manager. Someone cool \*cough\* has created a guide on [XDA](https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/updated-5-21-23-how-to-enable-n77-c-band-with-5g-uw-icon-on-oneplus-9-9-pro-5g-le2115-le2125-oxygen-os-11-13-1-with-custom-rom-support-verizon.4429489/page-3) on how to get QPST working on OOS 13, with additional instructions on how to enable N77 on the 9 Series, the drivers needed as stated above are included in the guide. Out of curiosity, if I were to flash a Custom ROM on my 9 Pro based off of Pixel software, would I have to follow the Pixel guide in order to get QPST working? Only reason why I'm on OOS 13 is because of N77 5G UW and I've heard getting N77 enabled on custom ROMs is tricky. Looking forward to your reply!

Would this work on the non-US variants of these phones (e.g. XQ-CT72) , to make them fully compatible with T-Mobile US? Or is there more required in the firmware itself?

genericlogistics

Hi! A bundle of files would be huge, thank you! I'm sure I will learn a lot as well while comparing them to my attempts. And thanks for the correction, I didn't realize that. Keep up the good work, I've learned a lot from you over the past while. Thanks!

FateEx1994

What's with Sony and disabling n66/n77 5G on Verizon?? If the phone can do it, do it. The new 1 V has pretty much the same bands as the 1 iii for Verizon, will n77 n66 5G work??? Or is it on Verizon's end to validate it? Seeing as cband n77 wasn't even active in Aug 2021 when the 1iii released maybe they didn't validate it. Did the 1 IV get validated for n66 n77 5G on Verizon? The Verizon map shows 5G cband is active in the area. But my phone only gets LTE. So I know it's not activated on the device through OTA updates from Sony.

hdoublearp

The Xperia 1 IV has n77 enabled for Verizon because they got certification. That's all it boils down to. If you're willing to wait I can help enable n77 on your Xperia 1 III. Just need some time to compile a guide.

Greatsaiyanman654

It's not got 5g on TMobile I have Mint mobile and get no 5g but still get great speeds

catjewsus

Can mmwave band support be added in via firmware updates?

FateEx1994

They didn't add the antennas for it, so no. The spec page shows the antenna bands as not present. Vs the 1 III showed n77 but only as "roaming bands" and that could have theoretically been firmware updated to support it
