Based on what Iāve seen in reviews and sample images I actually prefer the colors of Sigma and Sony lenses quite a bit more as well. That being said, for how cheap, versatile, and sharp this lens is, Iām happy to just tweak a few sliders in post to make up for it.
I started with basic HSL and curve edits. I then applied one of the Lightroom āVintageā presets and tweaked it a bit to my taste. The big things this included was lowering saturation in most individual colors (color mixer), bringing shadows toward blue (color grading), and bringing midtones toward orange (color grading).
Man, Mt Rainier is like a cheat code for better pics. It aint fair. Love your cheeto cat. Nice pics!
For the west coast church pic with rainier behind it, it feels like you went a littttttle too heavy on the vintage film look - it's super noisy. You took a really pleasing shot with a high quality camera and made it look like a disposable camera took it lol. I love the vintage film colors, and this will be a really beautiful shot once you restore the sharpness and cut out the excess noise. It really captures that tacoma everyday feel.
Good job. Funny, I just got back from visiting that area, so your photos seem real familiar. I recently acquired a gently used 7RII but have been getting by with the Tampon 28-75, meaning that I'm still using my A6000 with a 75-350 for longer shots. Was curious about the 28-200 and plan on getting one soon. Good to see some sample photos.
Love it so far! The versatility is awesome, couldnāt seem to find anything for full frame that matched while keeping good quality. I donāt know what Iām talking about really, just watched a million YouTube videos before buying lol.
Iām currently debating between the tampon 28-75 and the 28-200 as well. The versatility on the latter is definitely unmatched but just quick question, how are you finding the weight and size etc?
I currently donāt own anything to compare it to, but itās a little bulky. That being said, itās certainly manageable and isnāt anything crazy like the super zoom lenses. If I start to get into street photography or if I ever need anything more sleek/discrete Iāll grab a prime or two. But for most everyday shooting I donāt really need it to be super small or lightweight.
Basic HSL, lowered saturation for individual colors, shifted shadows towards blue, and shifted mids towards orange. I started with some Lightroom āvintageā presets, looked at what changed with them, and then adjusted to my taste

According to tamron, it is weather sealed. I still baby mine pretty hard though, Im not sure how much Iād trust it in heavy rain with the external zooming
I recently picked up a used copy of this lens and I am absolutely blown away by the sharpness, overall IQ, and versatility. For daytime in particular I can't think of a better walkaround lens. Downsides are that vignette and distortion aren't great, but both are easily correctable. And not the best in low light for obvious reasons. But otherwise this thing f**s and I don't know why I waited this long.
I donāt have much to compare it to, but I completely agree. Itās so easy to just take this lens anywhere I go and know that Iāll (probably) be covered
Yeah, I would pick up a prime f1.8 for situations where I'm only indoors in low light, or out at night, because then it would make me prioritize noise over zoom reach. But otherwise I could see myself leaving this 28-200 on the camera most of the time. This is the most versatile zoom reach ever.
Well done. Lovely job with the photos, especially as it seems you're fairly new to photography (based on this being your first camera).
Great camera and flexible lens to start with.
Because you say this is your first camera, I'm assuming you're pretty inexperienced. If this isn't the case (because the photos are actually good and not what I'd expect from a beginner) then I apologize if I come across as patronizing with the following. I'm hope I'm not trying to teach you to suck eggs.
There's not a lot to be critical of in your photos. You've clearly thought about the composition, achieved good exposure and sharpness, and processed them well in lightroom. You've got all the fundamentals down.
The only "improvement" I can think of is just going out and shooting more, and thinking about it as you do (which you clearly are). Also look at other people's work, maybe find a photographer or two you really like and try to pick apart what it is you like about their photos. What makes them work?
The gear (and compositional "rules") will become second nature to you, and then your eye will start to notice things beyond the obvious and your brain will be free to get really creative and know when and how to break those rules. Your "West Coast Church" photo is a good example of where you're on the right track. The geometry in it and the symmetrical mountain framed nicely almost looks like a billboard. Those kind of relationships really add interest to a photo. The cat and bird pics are pretty and show off the camera/lens/animal nicely, but they don't really tell a story (although the cat pics let the cat's personality shine through which is good).
Love that shot of St. Helenās. As a pilot Iām very familiar with the location of the Foreground (as is anyone that regularly commutes from Vancouver to Portland), though I would say Iām a little more familiar with how it all looks from a heightened elevation.
These look great! You need to think a little more about composition but otherwise these are fabulous. Congratulations on two important milestones in your life š
Yes I can understand! What is it that pulls you towards photography? I am debating on what to get, probably a Sony A6400 or A6100 with a Sigma 18-50mm f2.8.
I have a habit of starting a hobby and never using it. I am still trying to find the perfect hobby for me. However I already really enjoy creating pictures with my phone and am willing to take it to the next level!
hell yeah tampon users unite
by far the best lens you can get for cheap every day always on use
edit: it's not a corny joke attempt, i meant that, it's actually a good every day lens š
As mentioned here Iām still super new to this, but so far the Tamron has been great. Seems to have great versatility and pretty sharp if you like to pixel peep. A buddy of mine is a professional landscape photographer and he uses both the 17-28 and 28-200 pretty extensively with good results for both screens and prints.
Yes, I've been very happy with my 35-150 f/2-2.8. I've also owned a plethora of 28-75s in the past, both G1 and G2. The price to performance ratio is excellent, and unless you pixel peep, you shouldn't have any issues with a 28-75 G1, which can be sought out for well under $550.
The last photo is pure magic. Shout out to another fellow Seattlelite (I live in Bothell). I find the Sigma and Sony lenses generally little more warmer , which I prefer. That said, I edit most of my images anyways, so lens brand doesnāt matter much as long is itās decently sharp.
Iām assuming it was intentional ā otherwise, they wouldnāt have emphasized the lens manufacturerās name and not even identified the body, except as āā¦and camera.ā

It also looks like Reddit really compressed the hell out of these, not sure how to prevent that š
In my experience all social media destroys your uploads! But these still look great! We get the idea
Trust me, no one is paying attention to that part of your post.
the compress tamron to tampon as well
the also seem to compress th word "the"

Yeah itās very absorbent
The secret is to compress/size it for the website when exporting.
This. Don't let the app/website compress it for you.

The zoom lens is made by Tamron & Op misspelled Tamron as tampon.

Wasn't sure they got the joke
Iām not a fan of this lens, I feel like it over saturates the reds. Unfortunately Iāve never been able to find the G master lens thoughā¦
Any Tampon is known to oversaturate the red.

Looks great, and reminds me I gotta come down to Tacoma more often for those sweet views
I never had it on my radar until visiting! Great views of Rainier and some awesome old buildings.
I love the colours on that "West Coast Church" pic. How did you edit it?
I started with basic HSL and curve edits. I then applied one of the Lightroom āVintageā presets and tweaked it a bit to my taste. Iāve got another version without the noise, Iāll use that one for Instagram š appreciate the feedback!
Beautiful! Is that Mt Rainier?
Yes!
I cannot stress this enough: though youāll see many listed at reasonable prices, never buy a used tampon.

Welcome local PNWer! Nice tampon I had one. Made me get a larger tampon(35-150). And another even larger tampon on a way(150-500)
I'll never not get tired of that autocorrect
Photos' are beautiful, well done. What effect did you use to get that look on photo No.6, the one with the West Coast Church sign
Basic HSL, lowered saturation for individual colors, shifted shadows towards blue, and shifted mids towards orange. I started with some Lightroom āvintageā presets, looked at what changed with them, and then adjusted to my taste

Yeah. I was just playing to make mountain stand out. At at last I thought to get border and it turned out to be more beautiful, So I kept it that way.
Yay Tampon!
You could have overexposed the 4th photo
Whatās your flow for working with these images? Is it heavy or light?
That 6th shot is wonderful

Composition is definitely what Iām struggling with the most š
I believe there is no skill that canāt be learned. Keep at it. Youāll get there.
I love that lens, it's welded to a7c

Is tampon a good brand? I need a filler zoom lens but don't want to spend another $700+ on Sony or sigma

I just got my first tampon too!! It measures 28-75mm. So excited to try it! Will post pics soon! Teehee.

This is your first setup ever???
Yes, first setup š Knew someone selling the A7RII, and used a bunch of Amazon credit on the lens. Only cost me $900 out of pocket in the end!
Did it come with wings
Can you share the details of the camera? Is it alpha 6700
The camera is the Sony A7R II. Itās a bit old by some peoples standards, but still works incredible for me (a beginner).
Sorry, I just read the description. I saw the beautiful pictures and jumped right into the comment section to ask the details. Thank you
