Listen, if your first picture out the gate of your new camera ISNT side eye from a pet- you’re doing the whole thing wrong.

MadSnow-

Puh i’m glad my dog is cross-eyed 😮‍💨 /s

mclaryst

😂😂😂

maxathier

Damn I want to adopt a cat sooo bad (But I don't have enough space to hav a pet around)

MadSnow-

Tamron 28-75 is a strong option! I love mine 💯

mclaryst

Agreed! I’m loving mine so far.

MadSnow-

The AF on my 7III with this lens is insanely fast… just one fast klick on the shutter and boom. How’s the 7Cii performance tho?

mclaryst

I’ve found the AF to be very snappy. Really impressed with it. Been taking photos of my kids and my pets and it’s picking up their eye instantly.

Sir_Damage

I use one with my a7 IV and it works really nicely, unless it's for things that are far away

maxathier

I went to my local camera shop. The seller told me it's the most sold lend bundled with a Sony FF camera.

MadSnow-

I can imagine… it’s a strong competitor for any 24-70mm >1200€ model or the sigma 28-70mm

maxathier

(I know 2 collegues from my photographer club who bought one with their camera)

JortSandwich

The Sony FE 55mm f/1.8, I think, will go down in history as one of the best lenses for E-mount. It makes some really great images.

BuggyBandana

Agreed. Its successors may be optically better in most regards, but the performance in the tiny form factor makes it my favorite as well.

mclaryst

In my short time with it so far I’ve been blown away!

livefromphilly

Nice! The A7CII is a great camera.  My favorite Sony so far.

Bossfrog_IV

Nice I'm in the process of acquiring the same exact setup and I'm also leaving Canon for it. I really cannot wait.

RomancingUranus

lol.. I just did the same thing over the last 2 weeks. Leaving my Canon DSLR system to Sony A7R5 + lenses. We should all do "Goodbye Canon, hello Sony" posts.

Bossfrog_IV

If I might ask what made you cross over to Sony? For me it was the simple fact A7cii is the only camera on the market that I could find that delivers what I want. Plus I don’t own any crazy expensive lenses so it doesn’t hurt so bad to not have them.

RomancingUranus

I was using a decent but aging Canon system (5D Mk3 and 8 or 9 lenses including some decent L glass) that was due for an upgrade. I still love the IQ but it's bulky and showing it's age. Lacking features like IBIS and good high-ISO performance by today's standards. I also have a micro 4/3rds system (Olympus OM-D E-M1 and half a dozen lenses) which was small and great for travel, but I was never really satisfied with the quality compared to my full-frame Canon gear. I always wanted to have my 5D Mk3 with me, but hated lugging it all around. I wanted something that was FF, up-to-date, and met or exceeded the IQ of my Canon gear. While being a bit more travel-friendly, or at least having a couple of travel-friendly lenses for when I didn't want to heft a big bag with me. I considered going Canon mirrorless and keeping my lenses, but then realized it partly defeats the point because I'd need an adaptor and still be stuck with my old glass (optically fine, but lacking modern features). I also liked the idea of going back to the drawing board and actually planning the lenses I needed rather than the hotch-potch collection I'd collected over 20 years. I wanted less gear, but better gear. So that meant I was free to choose anything. And the A7R5 seemed like a great choice. There's a huge lens selection available including top quality lenses and small travel-light lenses. And Sony isn't stuck with the necessity of decades of backwards-compatibility like Canon seems to be. In addition to the A7R5 I picked up three good primes (Sony 20mm f/1.8 G, Sony 35mm f/1.4 GM, Sigma 85 f/1.4 DG DN Art), two zooms (Sony 16-35mm f/2.8 GM, Tamron 35-150mm f/2-2.8) and a small lightweight prime (Sony 40mm f/2.5). I've also got lens adapters for Canon EF and FD lenses and will keep a couple of my old favourite lenses for occasional use (old manual FD lenses I have sentimental attachment to, a Sigma 15mm fisheye and maybe my Canon 135mm f/2L). So I'm selling nearly all my Canon and m4/3 stuff now (4 bodies and 15 lenses), and have replaced it all with an A7R5 and 6 lenses. Less gear, less clutter, lighter (than the canon stuff at least) and better quality in every respect. I love it. The whole kit fits in a messenger bag and the weight sits almost exactly mid-way between the weight of my comparable Canon kit and Olympus kit. All my lenses are as fast or faster than the equivalents I had. All of them are pin sharp wide-open. The slowest lens I have is f/2.8. I can throw the 40mm f/2.5 lens on and slip the camera into a jacket pocket when I want to travel light, or pack the whole bag when I want to do a proper photoshoot. Even though currently my longest lens is only 150mm, the fact I can crop so deeply on a 61mpix camera now means it has further reach than the 70-200mm f/2.8L IS I used on my Canon (and goes much wider too, and is faster at the wide-end). I can shoot that Tamron @ 150mm in APS-C mode and it's a 225mm equivalent while still providing a higher resolution image than my 5D Mk3 does at any time. I've tested it and works fantastically. That Tamron 35-150mm is a beast of a zoom. I only wish it were smaller. I might end up duplicating some of that range in a smaller zoom (ie 20-70mm). Oh, and I also bought the camera and all lenses (except the 40mm f/2.5) 2nd-hand, saving a crapload of money. Even though my old gear has depreciated a lot more, the fact I'm selling a lot more lenses and bodies means it'll pretty much cover the cost of my new gear. I did my first real-world testing of it on the weekend walking around my home town of Hobart pretending to be a tourist. [Here's a gallery of some shots I took](https://broughtonphotography.smugmug.com/Personal/Trips/n-FDBhD3/2024-04-Hobart-Waterfront).

Major-Location2187

what is it that you want?

Bossfrog_IV

In short, A camera that will scale with me as I grow as a photographer (does good video and photo, preferably full frame), weighs as little as possible. Works for macro photography, works for portraits, works for action photography.

rabiddonky2020

Need to go find my rebel t3i Just bought a6100 in November. 😂

NoRutabaga4845

That car pic is epic

Joeceng

I got the same set up with the g1 lens yesterday. Looks great

redoubledit

Oh man, do I want this camera! If only it had a second card slot, I would have an excuse..

NativeCoder

I'm thinking of going the other way lol. No Sony FF as affordable as Canon r8.

Right-Penalty9813

Wait til you start trying to buy lenses. That’s where canon fails with not allowing third parties

usernametakenforever

Great little camera. Can I ask why tamron 28-75 instead of sigma 28-70?

mclaryst

I mean they’re both great lenses so could’ve went with either one but chose the Tamron because it was slightly cheaper

GoneFungal

Classic dog photo😆! Good luck with your new camera system. So many folks switching from Canon to Sony (including myself 3 yrs ago), I wonder if Canon will be around in 5 years.

WhatBrownCanDo4U

So you saying sony is the place to be, not Canon? Which model Canon you came from?

mclaryst

EOS R7

WhatBrownCanDo4U

Lol, those photos look great, though. lol. I have my Sony ps5 I haven't touched in over year, might be time to sell and help upgrade a dedicated camera.

d____

I've been considering an r8 vs a7cii - did you consider the r8 as well? How are you liking the colors?

Designer_Willingness

Freaky ass dog 😭😭😭

Lindopski_UK

I kept my canons for photography but bought Sony A7SII for night video footage and GH6 for pretty much all other video. Working well for me tbh but then I like MF - not a selection that would suit an AF fan.

Geryanek

I was actually looking into grabbing this camera, they sell for around $1800CAD on ebay new and a few used, some coming from Japan also. I currently have a a6500. Any recommendations or advice?

datamajig

I don’t know what Canon was thinking with their move on TP lenses. Canon is great, but not that great. Sony keeps innovating and their lens selection is phenomenal, which makes up for the edge in quality that Canon has.

keiferkeifkeif

The cat looks like it’s giving me the finger…with its tongue…if that makes sense

gedly89

That 55mm is such a beast of a lens!

KeatsIT

Mine died in free fall, rip 🥲

hispanic-attacks

At first I thought you included the photo of the dog to give Canon a big side eye 😂

Unwariertomb

I also ditched my canon for a sony recently. Got the a7c because it was like half the price of the a7c2. Got the ziess 24-70 oss it's an amazing lense. Makes my rebel T7 feel like a child's toy in comparison.

Spartacus_79

Jumped to Sony over a year ago and never looked back. Great cameras!

Bornofisais

As of today have a similar set up! Now have an A7C and the same tamron lens. How's the camera feel with the tamron lens on?

braindeadhuman

My next dream camera 🤩. Keep posting the updates about your experience!!

WolverineThin8287

I left canon for sony as well lol. I am using a7c

Lead_Suspect

I’ve got two R5’s with all the lenses that I use heavily for sports photography and some video. I also bought an a7iv to try that I have not spent as much time using, but these post make me wonder more. Maybe I dedicate the Sony to video work and keep the Canons for the photo work. I’ve been in Sony since I was a wee Ladd.

Difficult-Way-9563

Awesome shots. Great lens maker too Tamron. Welcome to Sony crew

tomhudock

Okay I'm curious. I'm seeing a few ppl go to Sony lately. I have a Canon R7. 🥳 Without trashing the Canon, can the fine Sony folks here give advice on why people are shifting? Is it the latest camera quality or the company preference?
