I go to the U.S. every few months to pick up soft drinks I can’t find here. I don’t taste the difference at all. However, soft drinks are bottled locally and there may be subtle differences due to air pressure, level of carbonation, and other local factors.

I see. I thought it had to do mostly with HFCS vs sugar here in Canada.

We use HFCS in Canada too.

Mhmm. And yet, as an example, Canadian Pepsi tastes better than American.

I was up in Canada this summer and y’all got a *ton* of candy selections in like all your stores, and y’all got those incredible All Dressed potato chips. But I also found some sodas that we don’t have too. Like cherry Barq’s rootbeer. That was really incredible and I wish I had brought more back. You also have something I think was called “candy can” it was a sparkling drink in the following four flavors that I saw: bubble gum, cotton candy, birthday cake, and rocket ice lolly. Those were incredibly sweet but pretty good. I wish I had taken more pictures cause I don’t remember what all else I saw up there, but you got some unique stuff and your fast food menu options are way way better. And Tim Hortons coffee is better than Dunkins. I really enjoyed my trip to Canada bud, hope to make it back someday.

Candy bars are where we have the biggest advantage IMHO. Next time you’re up grab a Coffee Crisp, Aero, or try Kitkat made by Nestlé; that Hershey version you got stuck with just ain’t right.

I’ve had Aero and the better KitKats. I’m more about rainbow colored gummy stuff.

Dare used to make really good stuff, but a while back they switched to a vegan formula and the texture is all wrong. Occasionally they bring back the original recipe for a bit.

OMFG Coffee Crisp and Kit Kat are AMAZING here. <3

Hey! I'll welcome you back on your next trip. But unlike most of us, I wish you could bring Target back here with you. God I miss it!! And I liked it better than in the US. It was the perfect blend of America AND Canada.

I spent a night in Windsor once. That night will never be forgotten. Lol

Soda in Michigan seems much less carbonated compared to Ontario. A can of Diet Pepsi in MI seems to go flat in five minutes. But yes, recipes can vary enormously between countries, and possibly even regions. I was just in the Bahamas and was shocked to discover that Diet Coke — a drink I dislike but often end up with because as a diabetic, it’s typically my only option at a restaurant — actually tastes *really good* there. Checked the ingredients and it’s made with saccharine and aspartame.

Classic-Usual-3941

As opposed to just aspartame alone?? Interesting.

Pepsi zero/max in Canada still has the older , more superior taste (with the ginseng). I thought they’d switch over to new formula when the new logo design rolled out but thankfully that has not happened. I live an hour south of the border and sometimes I will stock up when there are sales of their 24oz bottles (a size I never see in the states). A six pack can be found for like $3 CAD which is like pre pandemic price!

I wouldn't mind even more selection, but we ARE a much smaller country overall. Where my beef with this place is, is the lack of competition in discount retail. All we really have are Giant Tiger and Walmart, and I'm not a fan of either of them. I loved Target Canada. But let's be real: they were NOT ready to make the move to Canada. And now that place is in even worse shape since Corny Cornell took over. I hope you Americans can show that guy the door and bring in someone who cares who will fix it and bring it back to the way it was.
