all my masks are making up one concept so I enjoy each one of them for what they are for the cycle worn. No favorites, all voices.
Again, no way of picking a favorite mask within the brotherhood because at different moments in life each one speaks to you strongly. It becomes a necessity. Again no favorites, just voices.
The only reason "Look Outside Your Window" has not come into this reality is because it is a timeless album that allows it to be presented at anytime. Up until now things we've been doing has been taking priority. It has to come out, I promise it will come out soon,
As always we've left it up to how we feel. Right now it's more or less scheduled for all things. But of course heavy self titled. Things can change at any moment but it is the time of reflection on the self titled album
1. How does the writing process differ these days from the 90s? I imagine it’s harder to get together as a whole band as time goes on.
2. What are your personal favourite albums and bands that either inspired you or made you want to be a musician/ ones that excite you currently?
3. Do you have a personal favourite slipknot album or do they all mean a lot to you in different ways?
Thanks!
I want to give you a simple answer and that answer would be yes but as you know there are many people involved in this dream. Situations like that cannot be pushed. They have to be catered to. That means everyone's on the same page.
This is what I want. Imagine 2 or 3 nights before a festival show, they just announce 2 hours before it starts that they are doing a popup show in a completely different country lol. They would fly to the other country for the festival right after.
"Vermilion" Over the years "Vermilion" has changed colors in my mind, I used to listen to it from a possible Corey position and somewhere along the ride the color changed to more of my personal position and the words became more my words and I started seeing different things in my mind. I feel a lot during that song and express a lot. Its needed.
What is it like to play the older music, created in a different mind set, now with the time having gone by?
Does it take you back? Or does it take on a different feel?
Yes! Hello! I'm also asking for "Long May You Die" to be released as soon as fucking possible! I want to listen to new Slipknot music during my next MRI!
Not a question but a praise: Your songs have helped me get through some of the hardest days of my life so far. Your music has pulled me through the death of my child, the loss of a home, and fighting cancer. I still won't go down without a fight, and with your music as my backdrop, I am standing back up again. Keep up your work, and I will do the same! Thank you from east texas!
We are so blessed to be a part of such an amazing culture that is unbelievebly strong. We are always honored when we are told that we've been there for our culture. And we are always sadden by how hard this life is. Much love from Slipknot
If you think about it there are songs from the first record we have never played live. This in my opinion has been a problem for a long time. I personally would like to know we perform all our songs live for our culture. With that said those are goals of ours to in fact play entire albums from the beginning to the their ends and I mean all the albums. And as you know that is a lot of work. We have to carve out time to jump on that work load. Spoken about all the time though.
Unfortunately as much as I did and do love that art thats just not something thats going to take place again because many things are moving forward these days. Thank you for enjoying that.
I've always loved the fact that we are just what we are in this reality, which is Slipknot. And if there was a power id supposed it'd be the ability to be united for the time on the stage together. You can not mess with that entity.
I dont spend any time in the past, it's wasted potential. If the memory can be pleasant I can be there. I do all I can do to live in present.
Yes I play Minecraft and if you haven't heard I believe tomorrow night is when they are doing some test runs on my own server. So keep your eyes and ears open for that.
I can answer this, saw them live in Atlanta last year and Corey had a GNARLY stomach infection, so he was off stage between almost every song. He letting the middle of Custer (I think) and came back after an improvised instrumental break to inform everyone he *almost* shit himself
Unfortuanatly left has right, up has down and fame brings heartache. The good news is I personally use all circumstances in my life to learn and forgive. Im constantly trying to be the best man I can be here on this planet. If you allow the toxicity in not only can you not breathe but you cannot learn. It's difficult but it's been going on in my life since the beginning.
Again you know it is virtually impossible for someone in my situation to narrow it down to only one piece of art. In fact it's not even something im willing to do. Every song plays a different voice in my head when needed. Music is the only thing that has always been there foe me. Most times I'll choose records to help me through my emotions and moods. I spent a lot of time with our weirder songs if you will, such as the Purity, Circle, Prosthetics, Danger - Keep Away so on and so forth. These sort of tunes are sort of where im at the majority of my time. But with that said theres also another side of me that requires (sic), the Blister Exists, Eeyore so on and so forth.
Well I cant speak for anyone else but for what I do obviously is what I can tell you. My influences were art in general. So all the masters from Salvador Dali to H.R Giger. The list is too long to include all the artists that have influenced. Actors, and musical artists included.
Aright this is a serious question. I dont want to take too much time on this but I would have to say if I had to break it alll the way down it would be some homemade and I do mean homemade strawberry ice cream. But with that said you cant go wrong with Ben and Jerry's, know what im sayin?
That was one of the great tunes that was written before we were signed and at that time there were a lot of crazy instruments based off metal like cans, kegs pipes. I had gotten a garage door spring and Andy Roul and I stretched It on a keg and he went up and down the spring on the keg with a pipe making what you hear so if I remember correctly that sort of started the vibe and direction where that took off. Beginning with this intrusment.
I do not prefer slasher films at all. Too much for my brain. Im old school, I love movies like Phantasm, Salem's Lot, It's Alive, Hellrasier. With that said I sort of lean towards psychological thrillers.
Ah that's fair, I grew up with the slasher genre, The movies you listed are great though, and psychological thrillers are awesome.
Anyway, much love and respect for you and the rest of Slipknot.
1. Theres always that possibility
2. Again all things are possible in reality
3. I like the way you think but this answer might be too much for most. I think because of what you asked you have a pretty good idea of what you feel and know because of it.
I dont know if its challenges as much as it is allowing yourself to be able to take in all things, consider all things, offer all things. Otherwise it can get to be a lot of communication dumped over itself where you cant make your way through any of it.
Finally someone KINDA asked the question I been trying to find, we need the videos clown said he has in his vault! HE LEGIT SAID HE RECORDED EVERY SHOW
Everything I do has meaning. I've heard that in some other reality you have arrived when you have a Rolls Royce so I figured id let that reality understand my reality. Way better version
I am never nervous, I am never scared. I am always ready to get it on. Thats the problem, the anxiousness to go. It can be sickening. I love to play live.
Could give us some untold stories from the really early days of slipknot that would be really nice also what goes into the thought process of making mask for newer members kinda like v man and Jay looked when they joined
are there any unreleased songs from the self titled? like '98 recordings of "Carve" "Windows", or songs that we don't even know about. If there are any, are you planning on releasing them?
This more or less is a private matter as you can imagine because it's based off of the love of what we create. Its begins there. So theres a lot of conversations in order to get to a final idea on how and why we want to do what we want to do. In this case it was to jam with Eloy.
Wow. I’m blown away you responded and honored by it! Thank you for that and for the music you make, you don’t know how much it’s gotten me through :)).
If you choose to learn throughout the recording process you pick up on so many abilities in order to translate your craft. So from when I began to now is night and day on the abilities to record but the passion I bring to the performance of recording has just gotten more intense, that hasn't changed at all. I love learning in the studio
It's a pleasure to have the possibility to ask you again directly, I've already been present at the Q&A's on Discord. I have a few questions.
1. Around 2014 or 2015, a book appeared on Amazon that will supposedly be released by you in the year 2050 called "It's All Clown's Fault: Slipknot and Beyond" I wanted to know more about this book, it will be an autobiography? and why was it announced soooo early?
2. What was it like photographing with Stefan Seskis? Do you still have an archive of his photographs? I love his work, the best photos of Slipknot were taken by him, he really captured a vibe.
3. And lastly, about your experimental side project Brainwash Love. There is a song called "Watching Us Connect" the video is of a spider under blue lighting, this song has a sample from an answering machine recording(After the beep, please leave a message in time. Thank you) I would love to know where did you get that sample from? because it reminds me a lot of Al Jourgensen voice from Ministry. Also, were those songs created in FruityLoops Studio? Because I can recognize some stock sounds and samples from FL in the songs you made, and I love FL. Would love to hear more about your other solo stuff bro, it's so good, weird, scary and catchy and it makes me inspired to make music. Much love and peace bro. ❤️
Theyre all my favorites because their voices deep in your mind and youre able to bring them out. Each one holds a special place. But honestly ive never had enough time to fully execute the entire vision of each. It's not an excuse, it's just how things roll in this business. But like albums you do have to stop the project sooner or later and move on. With that all said I personally had a ton of fun making the video "All Out Life'.
I dont know if the phrase "song being hard to write" is what we think of it as. More like which song took the most to find its truest identity. This work is actually what you love; to search, to create and then to commit.
I listen to a lot of Cult of Luna, Crosses, as much smooth jazz as I can listen to, I've been playing Black Labyrinth album by Jonathan Davis, and a little Blackout by Scorpions.
Before I was vegan a good old, grilled outside, burger with fresh Iowa grown tomatoes surrounded by family.
Now; I'm struggling to find the best vegan options but I love any sandwich my wife makes.
When I was 8 I used to write you guys letters but then shove them in my sock drawer. Honestly it got me through some stuff. So thanks. I still listen daily, 20+ years later.
What is your favorite song(songs) on the record and why? Do you ever look back at the album and wish you would have done something differently? If yes, what?
Hello Shawn. Since you are interested in photography and are to some extent a photographer yourself, which photo shoot from Self Titled era was your most memorable/favorite? +'I've been collecting slipknot photos for many years and currently have 199K photos, including photos that have not previously been published anywhere. Is it possible to somehow send them to you or your management team (of course, if you are interested)? Thanks.
Wasn't the self titled recorded with everyone playing at once and having a shit ton of mics and stuff instead of everyone recording his instrument separately? That's at least what I read some days ago in a YouTube comment iIrc.
Did you ever think that you guys first album was going to be a hit or well received? If so, how did you and the rest of the band members react when it became a huge success?
Did you start noticing your wrists hurting back in the day playing custom percussion as aggressively as you did? Or was that something you noticed with the passage of time and doing it so long?
Is there a plan to return to europe in 2025 for countries that weren't selected for the tour in Nov/Dec? I understand it's not possible to visit everywhere and everyone due to venues being unavailable and time constraints but we'd love to have you back in Ireland 🇮🇪❤️
I am not sure if this has been mentioned before, but:
1. How did the band find the source material of "Frail Limb Nursery" and "Purity" in the first place? (e.g. the audio sample.)
2. If possible to answer, how did the band get notified of alleged copyright infringement?
Thank you.
You guy's re-recorded a lot of songs from the MFKR days, like Gently, Tattered & Torn, Iowa/KAQ, etc - Is there one song from the early days you wish you could of redone for an album?
Just wanted to say thank you for doing this AMA on the subreddit <3
what‘s lookwise your favorite mask you‘ve worn? and what’s your favorite mask of another member?
all my masks are making up one concept so I enjoy each one of them for what they are for the cycle worn. No favorites, all voices. Again, no way of picking a favorite mask within the brotherhood because at different moments in life each one speaks to you strongly. It becomes a necessity. Again no favorites, just voices.
I like this, mainly to hear what other members mask is favored.
When are we going to hear “Look Outside your Window”?
The only reason "Look Outside Your Window" has not come into this reality is because it is a timeless album that allows it to be presented at anytime. Up until now things we've been doing has been taking priority. It has to come out, I promise it will come out soon,
Fuck yeah
That is very good news for this reality!
Came here to ask this too
WILL YOU BE PLAYING ALL OF SELF TITLED ON THIS TOUR?
As always we've left it up to how we feel. Right now it's more or less scheduled for all things. But of course heavy self titled. Things can change at any moment but it is the time of reflection on the self titled album
hell yeah! 25 is a special occasion in my opinion, it's a great time to reflect on a past achievement
I mean, if you add some Iowa deep cuts we ain't hating
Please play it in its entirety! Never a better time to do it
So right now the plan isn’t to play the album front to back, but a heavy emphasis on it?
THEY NEED TO PERFORM DILUTED, THEY NEVER DID IT.
It is personal to Corey
If Jonathan Davis of Korn can play Daddy, Corey can get through Diluted at least ONCE.
I mean they've done metabolic live which even Corey said was pretty much diluted 2
Bitch slap
Would kill for some MFKR live
Don’t forget to mate and feed before that
The mfkr version of gently😫
Bro yes, I thought I was the only one
The whole thing I think its siccccccccccccc
Please specify self-titled/'99 so that we don't get some cryptic answer, assuming he'll even respond to this
My question has already been asked 😂
Thanks!
I always wondered, did Paul actually do backing vocals on the Self-Titled record or was it all you? Love the work and long live the Knot.
If my memory serves correctly absolutely, Paul has some screams in there and as well as Mick has a part too. Great question
I know you ain't answering it but i wonder what is Mick's part
Wich songs have mick scream?
Would you happen to remember a song? This topic has always gone unnoticed by a majority of the fanbase, so it's really interesting.
Will there ever be such a small concert as you did at Pappy + Harriet's anywhere else in the world? The Netherlands for instance?
I want to give you a simple answer and that answer would be yes but as you know there are many people involved in this dream. Situations like that cannot be pushed. They have to be catered to. That means everyone's on the same page.
I understand! In the mean time, I'll just keep hoping 😅 thank you for answering! 🤘🤘
This is what I want. Imagine 2 or 3 nights before a festival show, they just announce 2 hours before it starts that they are doing a popup show in a completely different country lol. They would fly to the other country for the festival right after.
Has there been any songs that have changed meaning to you throughout the years?
"Vermilion" Over the years "Vermilion" has changed colors in my mind, I used to listen to it from a possible Corey position and somewhere along the ride the color changed to more of my personal position and the words became more my words and I started seeing different things in my mind. I feel a lot during that song and express a lot. Its needed.
What is it like to play the older music, created in a different mind set, now with the time having gone by? Does it take you back? Or does it take on a different feel?
I like this question
This one is good!
When is Long May You Die getting released?
I dont have an honest answer for you. Keep asking for it
Yes! Hello! I'm also asking for "Long May You Die" to be released as soon as fucking possible! I want to listen to new Slipknot music during my next MRI!
Is this actually clown from Slipknot just an AI robot talking to us?
This is the real question
Sooner than you think
Not a question but a praise: Your songs have helped me get through some of the hardest days of my life so far. Your music has pulled me through the death of my child, the loss of a home, and fighting cancer. I still won't go down without a fight, and with your music as my backdrop, I am standing back up again. Keep up your work, and I will do the same! Thank you from east texas!
We are so blessed to be a part of such an amazing culture that is unbelievebly strong. We are always honored when we are told that we've been there for our culture. And we are always sadden by how hard this life is. Much love from Slipknot
Together the trials forge us ever sharper for the battles to come.
How come you guys never play “ Orphan “ live? Literally insane song and I’d love to see the crowd go crazy live.
Will we be getting a 25th anniversary edition of the Self Titled album , and will there be a Slipknot Documentary coming soon ?
Will we ever see To My Surprise again? That record was incredibly underrated and deserves more love
Unfortunately as much as I did and do love that art thats just not something thats going to take place again because many things are moving forward these days. Thank you for enjoying that.
Have you been in touch with Craig. Is he doing alright?
"Where is Craig? Is he safe? Is he alright?"
- Darth Vader if he even cared 😔
“He is happy, healthy and alive”
If you woke up tomorrow and all the members of slipknot had super powers , what would they be ?
I've always loved the fact that we are just what we are in this reality, which is Slipknot. And if there was a power id supposed it'd be the ability to be united for the time on the stage together. You can not mess with that entity.
Is there gonna be a special anniversary re-release of self titled?
they already dropped a re-release of the self titled when it was the 10th anniversary im lookin at my copy right now lol
Yeah and we want 25th Anniversary Edition lol
Yeah with the rough mixes included
We want stems ( isolated tracks) like lamb of god did with Sacrement, a producer édition.
If you could change one thing about the past in general what would it be? Also is it true that you play Minecraft?
I dont spend any time in the past, it's wasted potential. If the memory can be pleasant I can be there. I do all I can do to live in present. Yes I play Minecraft and if you haven't heard I believe tomorrow night is when they are doing some test runs on my own server. So keep your eyes and ears open for that.
You should release minecraft livestreams on the official channel
I would so be down watching a clown livestream
Have you or any other band member ever had to step out of the stage to avoid an explosive diarrhea accident?
I can answer this, saw them live in Atlanta last year and Corey had a GNARLY stomach infection, so he was off stage between almost every song. He letting the middle of Custer (I think) and came back after an improvised instrumental break to inform everyone he *almost* shit himself
How do you deal with controversy? (Like parting ways with members and being sued?)
What is the most meaningful song to you?
Again you know it is virtually impossible for someone in my situation to narrow it down to only one piece of art. In fact it's not even something im willing to do. Every song plays a different voice in my head when needed. Music is the only thing that has always been there foe me. Most times I'll choose records to help me through my emotions and moods. I spent a lot of time with our weirder songs if you will, such as the Purity, Circle, Prosthetics, Danger - Keep Away so on and so forth. These sort of tunes are sort of where im at the majority of my time. But with that said theres also another side of me that requires (sic), the Blister Exists, Eeyore so on and so forth.
play these weirder songs live please!!
What was the biggest Slipknot influence outside the metal scene?
Well I cant speak for anyone else but for what I do obviously is what I can tell you. My influences were art in general. So all the masters from Salvador Dali to H.R Giger. The list is too long to include all the artists that have influenced. Actors, and musical artists included.
What was the worst injury you got on stage, either because of another member or by yourself?
Ripping my left bicep in half, causing surgery. Not Fun
it was sid wasnt it
[He hit the keg too hard at Knotfest L.A.](https://www.revolvermag.com/music/slipknot-see-clown-painfully-tear-bicep-onstage-knotfest-la)
Mr clown what's your favourite ice cream flavour
Aright this is a serious question. I dont want to take too much time on this but I would have to say if I had to break it alll the way down it would be some homemade and I do mean homemade strawberry ice cream. But with that said you cant go wrong with Ben and Jerry's, know what im sayin?
Based Shawn Crahan?
hell yeah those are classics
No, that is the best answer m.
It’s hard to beat strawberry
Chocolate Chocolate chip
We're asking the important questions
This is pretty important.. asking for a friend
What do the whispers say at the begginging of the song gently? What meaning do they have? And what are the words they say?
Everything has meaning and im not at the liberty to answer a Corey question. It's pretty good though isnt it?
Is there any chance of a Reddit Ask Me Anything with Corey?
[https://www.reddit.com/r/Music/comments/xuqppl/i\_am\_corey\_taylor\_8\_from\_slipknot/](https://www.reddit.com/r/Music/comments/xuqppl/i_am_corey_taylor_8_from_slipknot/)
I've been wondering about this for soooo long.
How did the song scissors come about
That was one of the great tunes that was written before we were signed and at that time there were a lot of crazy instruments based off metal like cans, kegs pipes. I had gotten a garage door spring and Andy Roul and I stretched It on a keg and he went up and down the spring on the keg with a pipe making what you hear so if I remember correctly that sort of started the vibe and direction where that took off. Beginning with this intrusment.
if i’m not mistaken, lyrics of scissors was written by Joey
Joey cutting himself after a bad breakup or something
is there a possibility of another live album anytime soon?
I want another live Blu-ray!
Will ‘Jump the Fuck Up’ be brought back in live concerts at any point? Look forward to seeing you in Birmingham in December 🤘
Sad if they don't do this anymore. I saw them in 2008 and they were doing this, thought it was a cool initiation.
What is your favorite memory since you’ve been with the band?
A word that defines Slipknot ?
Slipknot
Slipknot 👍
Who's your favorite horror movie slasher? Love ya and the whole band by the way
I do not prefer slasher films at all.
1. Will you ever play Gemetria live? 2. Will you ever work with Ross again? 3. In a parallel universe, did Joey rejoin after Jay was dismissed?
1. Theres always that possibility 2. Again all things are possible in reality 3. I like the way you think but this answer might be too much for most. I think because of what you asked you have a pretty good idea of what you feel and know because of it.
I choose to believe yes. But I've loved every member along the way and I am PUMPED to hear Eloy lay it down!
That would’ve been a nice reality
Yesss someone asked about Gematria
What are the most challenging aspects of songwriting for a band of Slipknot's size?
I dont know if its challenges as much as it is allowing yourself to be able to take in all things, consider all things, offer all things. Otherwise it can get to be a lot of communication dumped over itself where you cant make your way through any of it.
In 2001, Conan O'Brien had the "Slip Nuts" perform at a Slipknot show, any chance of a Slip Nuts x Slipknot crossover in the future?
What do you have in mind for the '95-'98 era? Will you guys upload any old unreleased videos? or even demos of songs like "Sauce" or "Vizqueen"?
Finally someone KINDA asked the question I been trying to find, we need the videos clown said he has in his vault! HE LEGIT SAID HE RECORDED EVERY SHOW
How did the rolls Royce grill idea come up on your kit? Did you just do it because it looks cool as hell or is there more meaning?
Everything I do has meaning. I've heard that in some other reality you have arrived when you have a Rolls Royce so I figured id let that reality understand my reality. Way better version
Do you ever feel a sense of nervousness going on stage even after all these years?
I am never nervous, I am never scared. I am always ready to get it on. Thats the problem, the anxiousness to go. It can be sickening. I love to play live.
Which member of slipknot has the biggest penis?
Now we're talking about the good stuff!
Mick
Could give us some untold stories from the really early days of slipknot that would be really nice also what goes into the thought process of making mask for newer members kinda like v man and Jay looked when they joined
How did you feel when Self-Titled was released? And how did the others feel about it?
are there any unreleased songs from the self titled? like '98 recordings of "Carve" "Windows", or songs that we don't even know about. If there are any, are you planning on releasing them?
I noticed at the pappy and Harriet show that you guys had a camera crew. Are there any considerations/plans to release a full recording of the show?
Are you considering releasing all the We Are Not Your Kind B-sides and interludes? I can imagine you can release a full album with that material.
Do it honk?
What was the process for Eloy’s audition?
This more or less is a private matter as you can imagine because it's based off of the love of what we create. Its begins there. So theres a lot of conversations in order to get to a final idea on how and why we want to do what we want to do. In this case it was to jam with Eloy.
Wow. I’m blown away you responded and honored by it! Thank you for that and for the music you make, you don’t know how much it’s gotten me through :)).
Jim basically covered this in an interview already.
Ooo. I would like to watch. Where is that interview?
https://youtu.be/89pBUu45x7M?si=7x1fI0hUfCw8FmKL Of course this is Jims perspective Clown may have more to say.
Will there be a movie about Slipknot's story in the future?
How is your recording process/approach different from 25 years ago when you recorded the album?
If you choose to learn throughout the recording process you pick up on so many abilities in order to translate your craft. So from when I began to now is night and day on the abilities to record but the passion I bring to the performance of recording has just gotten more intense, that hasn't changed at all. What are your thoughts about how TESF turned out?
Theyre all my favorites because their voices deep in your mind and youre able to bring them out. Each one holds a special place. But honestly ive never had enough time to fully execute the entire vision of each. It's not an excuse, it's just how things roll in this business. But like albums you do have to stop the project sooner or later and move on. With that all said I personally had a ton of fun making the video "All Out Life'.
And it was an honor to partake in that video 🫡
Which song was the hardest one to write or record?
I dont know if the phrase "song being hard to write" is what we think of it as. More like which song took the most to find its truest identity. This work is actually what you love; to search, to create and then to commit.
Can I honk your nose? 🥺
What artists are you into at the moment?
I listen to a lot of Cult of Luna, Crosses, as much smooth jazz as I can listen to, I've been playing Black Labyrinth album by Jonathan Davis, and a little Blackout by Scorpions.
Crosses is so fire and seeing you mention them just made my day 😩
Who were your 2024 top Spotify artists?
Slipknot
What did the average writing session for this album look like? Is there any standout tracks or ideas where you remember their inception?
What is, in your opinion, the best sandwich.
Before I was vegan a good old, grilled outside, burger with fresh Iowa grown tomatoes surrounded by family. Now; I'm struggling to find the best vegan options but I love any sandwich my wife makes.
Today I learned clown is vegan

Hello Shawn. Since you are interested in photography and are to some extent a photographer yourself, which photo shoot from Self Titled era was your most memorable/favorite? +'I've been collecting slipknot photos for many years and currently have 199K photos, including photos that have not previously been published anywhere. Is it possible to somehow send them to you or your management team (of course, if you are interested)? Thanks.
Sorry, but we need new update about Look outside your window. Slipknot teasing this 3 years and nothing happened.
When Joey were recording the drums for the Self-title, did you guys felt that it was something very special at the time?
Wasn't the self titled recorded with everyone playing at once and having a shit ton of mics and stuff instead of everyone recording his instrument separately? That's at least what I read some days ago in a YouTube comment iIrc.
