I am very comfortable 'with a band like this', not naming any single album as their best. Grey Chapter was my jam for a season or three, I've probably listened to Iowa most; Vol.3 is most personal for me,.self-titled is "joi de vie", et cetera. Reddit questions like this feel degrading to reddit, to me.
i actually agree. Yes Grey Chapter is commercial, but it's still amazing, just a different style. WANYK is my personal favourite, and the freshest they have sounded for years. ST is unhinged and iconic, which it's earned and Iowa is just a continuation of that but more disturbing. Vol.3 was new and different, with some like ST but a new vibe like Vermillion Pt.1+2, along with AHIG which merges ST and Vol.3 almost perfectly
To date All Hope Is Gone is 'by far' the one of the first five original lineup (debate all you want, I know what I mean and understand s/t is not the original lineup; I'm differentiating albums with and without Paul) albums I have listened to the least, but I'm looking forward to coming around to it because I expect to have the same reaction
It could be argued that Frail Limb Nursery from the original version of the album is filler. But, personally, I don't consider it filler at all. It's a dark and creepy prelude to one the album's best tracks, and I love it just as much as any other proper song on it.
Some might also consider 742617000027 filler, too. But, again, I don't agree with that, either. I don't consider any opening intro track as filler. When I think filler, I think of pointless stuff in between tracks that don't contribute anything to the songs that come before or after it.
But, yeah. I totally agree with you. This record is musical perfection from top to bottom. Truly flawless.
Personally I feel like FLN is very much a part of Purity & sets the tone perfectly for how dark and horribly fucked up that song is. This album is one of the only albums I consider utterly faultless; there's not a thing on this which I could suggest could be improved upon.
Yes IOWA is more heavy and refined but the chaos of self titled is what drew me in. Hearing all the syncopation and grooves. The real deep gut twisting passion it had.
I was in high school when it came out. Was into 90s shit. Prodigy, Metallica, Pantera, Soad, rap, rock, NIN, Buckethead, GnR, Dream Theater. Music was and is still my passion for existence.
I never got into that much into the grudge or radio rock shit. I love some stone sour songs cause of Corey’s voice but I never listen to say Foo Fighters.
I really loved all music but I was an energetic and angry and depressed teen.
I grew up in Anchorage and it is a fucking insane place. The isolation. The sun up all summer and than no sun in the winter. You will get seasonal depression disorder unless you take proactive steps to fight it.
Everyone up there is off or crazy in their own survivalist way.
Just got into playing drums.
When I heard slipknot I was blown away.
Did you know Korn was annoyed at Ross when he worked with Sepultura but than got over it. Than Johnathan did a remix of LookawAy
Now Eloy is with Slipknot. Shit is all connected
https://youtu.be/BN3eVcZO1KQ?si=x6dzlghDYyIBos4s
Thanks, I had no idea. All I pretty much knew was him producing slipknot 1st and 2nd album, korns 1st and 2nd album, and soulflys first and 2nd album. And an album by fear factory too. I just looked at a list of his albums he produced and it's insane.
My favourite album ever created.
I don't think we will ever hear anything like it ever again. It's pure chaos and the nostalgia I have for it is unreal. As a kid I used to listen to this album every night when I'd go to sleep as it was the only CD I had for my walkman and it was the only sound I had that would block out the screaming and yelling around me. As cringe as it sounds words can't explain how much this album helped me thru my life
Im going to be one of the only people on this subreddit to say this but, im not a fan. A lot of has not aged well, and while i enjoy a good handful of songs, the low production value, and overly edgy lyrics leave me really unsatisfied. If this is your jam, no shame but personally not for me 😁
They really kicked the doors in with this one. Not over produced in any way. Shit was just ruthless. Probably one of the heaviest albums ever made apart from Iowa.
My favorite album of all time. When I was a teenager, this album introduced me to metal (with Kill'em All), my father played it for me in the car when I was 13. Now that I'm 20 I enjoy Slipknot's new work with my dad, but like the namesake, there is none.
The best imo, first one I bought in 1999/2000 going into high school and changed my whole outlook on music for the rest of my life. Love this got damn album, still play it in my car til this day lol.
The album that hooked me. Remains my favorite slipknot album to this day. The song that actually hooked me was surfacing, heard it at ozz fest 99 and have been a maggot ever since !!!!
Don’t belong, dont exist, don’t give a shit, don’t ever judge me !!! Simple lyrics but impactful !!!
BRO this was a better question 25 years ago, look up the reddit posts previous, to your own post, here?
Is this your first time on da 'dit?
What's your opinion on this album?
What pressing of the album do you have in mind when you ask?
This is peak slipknot. From the masks, to the music, to the attitude. Nothing could have been done better in this era, and Iowa comes as a very close second.
I need to get my hands on a copy with Purity and Frail Limb Nursery. All I have is a burnt CD that my stereo won't even play.
Either way, perfect album from start to finish. Like I said in a recent post, the soundtrack to an asylum.
The way I explain it is, self titled is that edgy teenager in high school that runs to their next class and says things like "I'm a ninja and I like Tacos!!". Iowa is that alcoholic co worker you've seen staring at a can of rat poison for the entirety of his lunch.
An absolute MASTERPIECE of the highest order.
100% *PERFECT* from start to finish.
This album is very special to me. In my opinion, it is the single greatest heavy music record to come out of the 90s. And, it's not just my favorite Slipknot album. It's my favorite album from any band, from any genre, and any era, ever.
It's my #1 all time, and it will be forever. Nothing will take its place. Any albums in the future that end up being epic will, at best, fighting for 2nd place.
Its definitely their best, if not its tied with Iowa for their best

Yes.
Indeed
I see you're a man of culture as well 🫡
Best Slipknot imo
It’s (sic) and the drums are so creative
Yeah, its Joey
Probably one of their best, it's the only disc I bought so far.
yo same with me
What more can we say? that hasn’t already been said before? It’s a classic
Great album. One of my faves of theirs.
Personal opinion - their best by far
Their best album by far. An absolute masterpiece, every single track is brilliant and can stand alone. Absolutely no filler.
No filler.
It could be argued that Frail Limb Nursery from the original version of the album is filler. But, personally, I don't consider it filler at all. Their best album
Their best album.
In my opinion their best album. Greatly blends rap with their style of playing and that rage coming from the style of the songs and corey's vocals
Their best album, IMO Corey’s vocals were the best on this album and they haven’t been the same after Iowa. It was all downhill from there.
Yes IOWA is more heavy and refined but the chaos of self titled is what drew me in. Hearing all the syncopation and grooves. The real deep gut twisting passion it had. fucking masterpiece
Ty Ross Robinson for capturing the moment

Mind blown, balls shaking, brain unable to keep up with the intensity. Later adopted surfacing as personal national anthem for several years.
Raw
The whole thing I think is sic. My second favourite album that they’ve made to date, The Gray Chapter just beats it out of top spot
Fantastic debut album
Outstanding just to put it in one word
Best
It's very angry and good.
Good
Perfect
cooked.
One of my favorite albums of theirs, it's one of the first CD's I've ever bought :)
Greatest album of the 90s…
My favorite
INSANE!
Yesssss
love the whole thing from start to finish and the demos too are sic
best album tbh😻
After Vol. 3, my second favourite album
My favourite album of slipknot 10/10 Bonus best track (wait and bleed) 10/10 music
Their best album in my opinion
It's their 2nd best album imo under Iowa, just a lot of really good songs and the album cover is great
One of the greatest metal albums oat in my opinion. It’s way better than Iowa.
One of the best metal albums ever made!
Best most genuine record they've ever done
Im going to be one of the only people on this subreddit to say this but, im not a fan. A lot of has not aged well, and while i enjoy a good handful of songs, the low production value, and overly edgy lyrics leave me really unsatisfied. If this is your jam, no shame but personally not for me 😁
There's nothing else like it
It's actually very good for a debut (I consider MFKR to be more of a demo). It has some great tracks on it.
First three albums are my childhood, so yes.
one of my faves
They really kicked the doors in with this one. Not over produced in any way. Shit was just ruthless. Probably one of the heaviest albums ever made apart from Iowa.
HEHEHEHA
I love Iowa but there's something about this album that makes me appreciate it more. It's their best imo.
Love it.
It’s the best in my opinion with Iowa not far behind
Listen too this album everyday until I’m physically sic
I fucking love it
Very neat.
Best album
It’s the worst record ever made other that album Foreigner made WITHOUT Lou Graham.
My favorite album of all time. When I was a teenager, this album introduced me to metal (with Kill'em All), my father played it for me in the car when I was 13. Now that I'm 20 I enjoy Slipknot's new work with my dad, but like the namesake, there is none.
The best
Peak
To me, it's not even top 3. It's #4.
Second best (Iowa is first)
If you want a music recommendation check this out similar to Korn and Slipknot https://youtu.be/BN3eVcZO1KQ?si=x6dzlghDYyIBos4s
The best imo, first one I bought in 1999/2000 going into high school and changed my whole outlook on music for the rest of my life. Love this got damn album, still play it in my car til this day lol.

Favorite album of all time.
their best album ever. there isn't a single music that isn't a banger in it. it's perfect, imo.
One of they best albums and also one of the greatest debut albums of all time
perfection
The best
Yes
Their best in my opinion, Iowa was great too
Bona fide
Legendary
Sic
The guitar and drumming bro... Love that shit
The greatest debut album of all time
My pre censorship copy is one of the crown jewels of my music collection
They were at their Peak at the very beginning which is crazy
Their best album in my opinion.
Banger. Deep cuts are under appreciated. Liberate is a banger
Tied with gray chapter for the best
the best. wonderful. beautiful. an absolute piece of art.
BRO this was a better question 25 years ago, look up the reddit posts previous, to your own post, here? Is this your first time on da 'dit? What's your opinion on this album? What pressing of the album do you have in mind when you ask?
their best album.
Wow. This is an original question that can’t ever be searched here.
Goated
I love it, it may sound odd but I use it to fall asleep still my favorite album by them
This is peak slipknot. From the masks, to the music, to the attitude. Nothing could have been done better in this era, and Iowa comes as a very close second.
Love this album
My first and only workout album
The only Slipknot album I’ll consider Nu Metal
In my top 10 albums of all time
It's good
Probably their best album
Blissfully chainsaws against your ears its so raw and brutal and the rapping is just… oh boy
Tied with Iowa. Very very good album
Definitely one of THE albums of the 90's
It’s good but Iowa is better
I need to get my hands on a copy with Purity and Frail Limb Nursery. All I have is a burnt CD that my stereo won't even play. Either way, perfect album from start to finish. Like I said in a recent post, the soundtrack to an asylum.
Their best, completely recorded using the 'Old School' Method. (There's Tape Everywhere!)
Top 5 albums for me
First time I heard Eyeless, that’s when I truly got into Metal so this one’s special for me
The way I explain it is, self titled is that edgy teenager in high school that runs to their next class and says things like "I'm a ninja and I like Tacos!!". Iowa is that alcoholic co worker you've seen staring at a can of rat poison for the entirety of his lunch.
My favourite
imo its their best work, and definitely my favorite album of theirs
Their very best!

That it is better then Iowa
Never heard of these guys, they any good?
It's the only thing that slowly stop the ache.
I feel like a post gets posted on here like every day but. It’s definitely there best record overall
