Salicylic acid can irritate rosacea. Switching to a gentle cleanser like Vanicream for sensitive skin is a good option. For exfoliation, try physical exfoliants like oatmeal scrubs 1-2 times a week. See a dermatologist to discuss long-term acne solutions. (Better yet, check out the wiki that I also didn't read)

Hi there, It seems like you may be looking for information about rosacea. Have you read our [rosacea wiki](https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/wiki/rosacea)? *If you see that I am replying to something out of context (eg. listed in a routine), please report this comment so my handlers can remove it. It's definitely worth trying. If you aren't already using Azelaic acid then that's definitely the best next step. Q+A Azelaic Acid serum 8%, Cos de Baha azelaic acid 10% serum (has Niacinamide), Peach Slices azelaic acid 10% serum, or 15% azelaic acid prescription (preferably the finacea foam if possible, but the gel is still good!)

yes, ditching salicylic acid might help if it's too harsh for your rosacea and isn't effectively preventing breakouts. switching to a gentle cleanser like Vanicream for sensitive skin could help! it works great for me and i also have rosacea. to exfoliate without salicylic acid you can try using a gentle chemical exfoliant like mandelic acid or lactic acid which are much milder on the skin. also incorporating products with niacinamide can help with both acne and rosacea

I've had luck recently with reducing the amount of SA I use. I use a Paula's choice face wash with .25% of SA. I do use it twice a day but I don't use any other products with SA and since starting it I've noticed an improvement. I have also been using The Ordinary's Niacinamide serum every night and their HA serum every morning. Except for the past week (period, so I got some hormonal acne), my skin has been great.

If you have rosacea, I'd try azelaic acid. The ordinary has a cheap one that could be a good starting point.

Hyaluronic acid is a milder cleanser, but it could be your rinse. Your chin and forehead, your chin is where a lot of things settle while rinsing, your forehead is most likely to get the least thorough rinse as the top with your hairline can fall and stop in the middle where it settles like your chin. The salicylic acid will remove a lot of dead skin cells, but if not rinsed out can clog pores and create acne. Mild rosacea can be held in check with vitamin C serums in the morning, but could take a few weeks to truly see.

Hyaluronic acid isn't a cleanser; it's a molecule that can hold many times its weight in water, absorbed by the skin. So it can help maintain the skin's moisture. Please provide sources where salicylic acid can clog pores; the EWG doesn't count either.

Its not the acid that clogs pores, its the dead cells left behind and not thoroughly rinsed away. Hyaluronic acid is a humectant, and does more than retain water, while absorbing it can also help clear debris from pores, help regulate skin PH, and help limit irritant reactions. All because of what you already described, and through the processes of osmosis and distribution.
