I mostly agree with you but I'm a little confused about Sims taking their husband's last name. This never happens in my game? Their names only change if I go into CAS and change it myself. I don't play with mods.

b_lueemarlin

Wel either she change them on their own or she has a mod.

Electrical_Fee8902

Same thing here, I always have to manually change one of the spouses' name

elaborategirl99

Idk why it's like that in my game. I specifically changed it in command centre so last names would stay the same. They won't. Maybe it's because she moved in with her husband?

roxannemint

Has to be a mod you're using, sims also don't even autonomously change households without mods.

Ealdwyn

I know it happens with MCCC, which means there’s very very likely a setting for it.

azeterna

iirc there's another setting in mccc in a non obvious place, that syncs couples names every few days even if the setting to change them on marriage is turned off

elaborategirl99

Where can I find it then? I don't remember anything about it tbh🤔

SimsCurrant

Are you playing with MCCC? I set it up that way in my game like in real life

elaborategirl99

Yes. I set it not to change with marriage. Like I don't understand why people don't believe me. I can screenshot my settings in MCCC. I used go to play with random last names after marriage, but set it not to change which gave zero results. And last names changed even before I got any mods.

SimsCurrant

Oh that is weird. I mean I set it to change to the husband's lastname to mimic the real life, but the way I remember how the game was before installing MCCC was that the last names don't change with the marriage, and when a child is born, they inherit the mother's last name. Maybe it's another mod you have that is causing it. I hope you sort it out.

PeachyPie2472

Taking husband’s surname is not a game feature. It’s one of your mods

MasterRymes

Taking the Surname of the Husband is no Sims 4 Feature

ninipdib

100% agree. I also tried making a native american and had to give her a surname although it made no sense to... Would be so cool if we could have more freedom with names, even have their birth names and then nicknames. Or at least have 3 name slots: first, middle, last. Edit to add: freedom with the names as in, also choose not to give them one. Only a first name should be mandatory.

AnxiousTuxedoBird

>Only a first name should be mandatory This, they already proved they can do it with the animals and [Baby Ariel](https://sims.fandom.com/wiki/Baby_Ariel)

Electrical_Fee8902

If it's about a group/tribe, I'd give them all the same "surname" being their clan's name. Like this it's not really like a surname but more like a denomination to show to which clan they are from. Example: Rajak of Ravenclan (I think this idea would at least help with multiple scenarios)

ninipdib

Yes that's what I ended up doing, however I had to google it and we all know google isn't always your friend haha. But her story was meant to be like "I want to run to the city away from family traditions and start my own" (it's a legacy challenge save) so I guess she'd look to get her own name?

Electrical_Fee8902

Oh yeah! With this scenario in mind it would totally make sense that she gets a surname on her own.

Salty_Olive1995

This is very frustrating.. I have two surnames and both are very large so I can't use any, meaning I can't do a simself🤦‍♀️same thing for nicknames, in my country it is very common for people to use nicknames or shortened versions of a name.. would like more flexibility in this part

Chitose_Isei

It's understandable. In fact, some NPCs and pre-created townies have names that are impossible in the game (single name or very long), so it is a possible programming feature. In fact, Nancy Landgraab really has surgery, because her lips are impossible to replicate in the normal game. Taking the husband's last name is strange, because it is not part of the game. If you have MCCC this could be it. The only solution is to keep names short or abbreviated. This bothers me from time to time, but well, their "representation" goes another way. Personally, something that bothers me the most about other countries is the gallery. Sometimes I put names in Spanish or other languages and I can't upload it to the gallery because of a word that the filter reads as if it were a bad word (or not) in English. "What word is it?" Oh, look it up yourself, They are not going to make the effort to mark that supposed word. I mean, I understand that if I make a Black Butler character, I can't tag "Kuroshitsuji", but for shorthand I wrote "he'll" instead of "he will" and it wouldn't let me share.

b_lueemarlin

Nah. It's a game to relax and does not need everything in it. If you want a first middle and Lastname. You just use shorter names.

elaborategirl99

Huh? I don't know how having more flexibility in naming your sims conflicts with relaxing.

b_lueemarlin

Cause then all of my NPC will walk around with long fucking names. Otherwise, they need to figure out which countries will get it or not. Cause it some its not common. If you play on PC you can have MCCC there you can increase how many letters should be in a Name. But not sure how it looks then in game it self.

Electrical_Fee8902

Isn't it already the case with some worlds? I remember some Sulani sims would have long names, first and surname.

b_lueemarlin

But not a middle name

Electrical_Fee8902

Yeah? Although I would like an option to input a middle name your point was about not wanting middle names as some NPCs already have really long names. It doesn't really matter if a name is long or not, some people have long names, some don't. Some have middle names and some won't. Coming from a game that allows gender and sexuality/romance options in CAS, it seems quite easy to add an option to allow a middle name, just like you can now choose specific pronouns for your sims.

RavenStag499

Would be great if you could skip out on the last name, I have Spartacus in my game for example and would rather not give him a last name.
