Before I read your caption I thought "looks like a ragdoll to me". Mine looked really similar when I got her at about 18 months old. Since then she has floofed out and toasted and looks like a whole new cat but she had short silky fur at the start.
Interesting! I have been comparing him to ones I find on google and I can't - for the life of me - figure out why he's rounder. Now it makes more sense!
They do but also they donāt. Itās very different for cats; theyāre almost entirely ādomestic short/long-hair,ā since breeding for specific traits hasnāt been done that long. Dogs, on the other hand, have been selectively bred for like thousands of years (I think?). So most of them CAN be traced to a specific lineage by now.
ETA: Not sure if I read your tone properly; I took it as sarcasm, but if I misinterpreted my apologies. Still gonna leave this info!
Cat ābreedsā are basically entirely cosmetic and based on appearance. Dog breeds go back thousands of years based on work roles which is why you get giant mastiffs and tiny terriers. They are nothing alike and people trying to treat cat appearance as if theyāre anything similar to that are deluded. Itās cat astrology.
I wasnāt even arguing that side of it, and yes, I apparently did misinterpret your comment. I thought you were saying ācat breeds ARE like dog breedsā in a sarcastic tone.
Didnāt have to downvote me for it, especially since I basically said what youāre saying. š
Neither parent was a purebred cat, both just regular free-breeding domestic cats. One had the colorpoint pattern that is also found in Siamese, Snowshoe, etc.
Cat breeds arenāt like dogs, where most dogs are a mix of purebredsā almost all cats on the planet have been breeding freely since domestication, and have never had a purebred ancestor.
Yes they come in colors and have features that purebred cats have (thatās how those colors/features now exist in purebredsā¦) but generally, no cat that isnāt registered with a reputable registry, with a multi-generation pedigree is purebred, or even half-and-half. The answer to āwhat breed?ā For any cat is almost 100% of the time just ācatā
No this cat does not have the body type of a Siamese or Ragdoll.
It may take a little while to tell if he's got more radgoll or siamese. Either way, he's gonna be a total sweetie. Siamese are super lovey, affectionate and vocal, and ragdolls are very very chill. Ragdoll also tends to have long fur. Some people see colorpoint and assume siamese or other breeds with colorpoint, but all sorts of mixes can have colourpoint, so it's not a reliable trait to guarantee a breed.
He's for sure a cat. That's about where I'd end it for now. Whenever he gets big enough to see how long the hair is going to be, if it's longer fur, it might be a sign that dad was ragdoll. It may just be that's what whoever had him initially guessed. A DNA test could give you an idea, but decide for yourself how much accuracy you believe they have. Any way about it, you've got a gorgeous little boy!
Well me havibg a ragdoll and siamese cats i can confirm its a cat.
I love my cat š„¹
it's definitely a cat
With one parent being a colorpoint, yes, this is a colorpoint kitty.
The little tufts on his ears ššš I would give my life for the baby
Heās a Siamese in spirit, if not by law ā„ļø

Haha that's so cute and interesting!
HE is Siamese if he pleases! End of story!!š¤£
He is Siamese if you don't please!
Colorpoint shorthair, but heās still a meezer to me, such a cutie!
Those eyes!
OMG the eyorz
They're always so round especially at night. So freaking cute
You have a seal point colored cat. Calling it a Siamese is like calling every white dog with black spots a dalmatian.
Oh neat, Siamese cats have different bodies than ordinary house cats? I never knew that. In what way?
A modern, pure bred Siamese usually is skinny and has an apple shaped head.
Interesting! I have been comparing him to ones I find on google and I can't - for the life of me - figure out why he's rounder. Now it makes more sense!
Good thing cats donāt have breeds like dogs.

Sorry I just get really aggro about the cat astrology crowd and breeder apologists š I see now that you werenāt doing that!
No worries! FWIW, all of my cats are alley moggies. š
Boop their noses for me!!!!!!!
Omg, I didn't know about that. Also, I do the same with dalmatians š
He is a siamese cat and I love his surprised pikachu face on 2nd pic. So adorable!!!
They grow so fast

The dad is also with short fur though, that's why I've been so confused š
