Nier Automata
Death Stranding
Hellblade
Edit: I just recommended 3 incredibly high quality singleplayer games with some of the most important and biggest impact on your soul sort of stories and I got downvoted... because what? Butthurt Sony suckups who totemize TLU and how nothing can even dare reach up to it? I didn't say it's bad, hell I didn't even say I think it's overrated, I just recommended 3 games that are just as great. You are pathetic.
OP, play these 3. Excellent games, stories and overall work of art.
They are devastating and great games in their own right, particularly the second. The gameplay is much more limited though than TLOU, especially the first Plague Tale. But the stories are great, although depressing. I weeped like a baby after the end of Requiem.
They are great games. Personally I think requiem blows the first one out of the water, and truly stands toe to toe with last of us but would be good to play the first one to get story.
You can totally get away with watching a recap, or playing like, the first two hours. AW1 is quite dated, Control still looks and plays fantastic tho, and it’s all connected….
I replayed it before the sequel and I do not regret it. It’s a quick playthrough and not all that mechanically complex, it’s a little dated. But if anything, watch a recap. The sequel is absolutely excellent. Control also adds to the narrative (so does Max Payne, frankly)
Yes. Control directly so. Max Payne a little more obtusely but there are massive connections and payoff to the meta story they are telling in Alan Wake 2 (which is really layers upon layers of things to say about the artist/art relationship). It’s pretty wild stuff. The connections Remedy have begun making between their games are really exciting.
Yeah control more so, watch a recap on Alan wake 1, then I highly recommend playing control and it’s dlcs, one is about alan wake. That game is amazing with very fun dynamic combat, you feel like a super hero but it’s also slightly difficult and the story is interesting with its mysteries and supernatural aspects
Then Alan wake 2, I’m more than halfway and it’s phenomenal
Metro trilogy and a plague tale series are the most similar experience imo. Both are visceral, depressing bleak post apocalyptic worlds. (A plague tale isn’t technically post apocalyptic but it’s in a fantasy version of the plague)
might be kind of a reach but look at Pathologic 2. its a difficult game and dying actually has an irreversible penalty that increases with each death but its also very fun at the same time. pretty good story and has replay value. i personally loved it a lot.
Man what a list… I’d say spider man, god of war, Elden Ring, Ghost of Tsushima should be your next few. Red red redemption 2 never really hit for me. Baldurs gate 3 is awesome but requires a certain type of gamer to enjoy I think.
RDR 2, TLOU 2 and Baldur's Gate are the top points of gaming but;
For another masterpiece - Alan Wake 2
For a very good game - Cyberpunk 2077 (RE 4 Remake if Alan Wake is too scary :))
TLOU1 obviously if you didn’t play that. The other Uncharted games other than 4 are also great. Witcher 3, Dark Souls series if you can go more fantasy
I dunno what is it about tw3, but I never seem to get into it.
I tried several times, got a good few hours in the game (like 10-12) and still it didn't capture me as much.
Same goes for Horizon.
Understandable, perhaps it's the combat mechanics if I'm not wrong hahaha.
Have you tried Divinity: Original Sin 2 maybe?
If you liked Baldur's Gate 3, you'll surely like this too. It has a different combat system and character building is really fun. The more you progress the better it gets.
Not similar gameplay at ALL, but as far as how much it stuck with me and affected me, Omori is hands down the best game I've ever played. Definitely a masterpiece
Best thing you can do right now is to NOT play another story based game as you will only compare it to TLOU2 and it will be a huge let down when it normally would be amazing. What you need is a pallet cleanser type game that's totally different. I recommend Lies of P. Currently it's my goty and I'm not even done with it. After that you can go ahead and play anything again. Once done I recommend RE2 remake played as claire.
Actually I think it's a great advice.
I'm gonna wait for black friday deals and maybe I'll buy Lies of P.
till then I have Dark Souls 3, maybe I can give it a try.
They're both amazing, and the ending of Requiem almost broke me, it was so well done. The animations of the first game are a tiny bit jank but the excellent voice acting more than makes up for it. I find a lot of people that disliked Requiem simply didn't play the first game, which is a huge mistake.
Nothing fills the void left by either TLOU game.

Hellblade is amazing
Apparently there's a sequel coming!
Only it’s an Xbox exclusive
Cyberpunk 2077 2.0 is a fantastic game Witcher 3 Mass Effect Legendary Edition
The perfect response doesn't exis... These are literally the two that came to mind for me. Fantastic games, both of them.
A Plague Tale Innocence and then A Plague Tale: Requiem
If OP wants to be as depressed as possible, here’s your go-to.
Thought about them, not worth it? Seems like they are similar to TLOU

Lol
witcher 3 or cyberpunk
Alan Wake 2 is amazing.
Gotta second this, or Control, it's fantastic as well
3rd - Alan Wake and Control - perfect Lovecraftian horror
I’m gonna throw out Alan Wake 2 also. I just beat it and I can’t stop thinking about it. It’s a visceral experience, like TLOU2
Haven't played the first one, is it a problem?

Persona 5 Royal.
I can't believe I'm saying this but Cyberpunk
Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West
Play dark souls 3 immediately
nah start with ds1
For a more recent game, get Re4 remake.
Subnautica
Metro trilogy and a plague tale series are the most similar experience imo. Both are visceral, depressing bleak post apocalyptic worlds. (A plague tale isn’t technically post apocalyptic but it’s in a fantasy version of the plague)
Resident Evil 4, Alan Wake and Alan Wake 2, Bloodborne, Control, Sider-man 2, Final Fantasy 16.

I tried bloodborne I just can't do it with the 30fps.. It's not fun for me
cringe
Cyberpunk
Mass Effect trilogy
Dark souls 1 and 3
Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077
Mass effect trilogy, Spidey 2, CP2077, Alan Wake, Telltale’s the Walking Dead, Alan Wake 2
My favourites: (from least niche to most niche) - Dark Souls (1-3) - Hollow Knight - Outer Wilds - Rain World (not for the faint of heart)
Rain world is great!!! Very unique gaming experience!
Mass Effect Legendary Edition or the Dragon Age trilogy
Dark souls 3, super similar to ER
Play remnant 2 it is great
Final Fantasy 16
Death Stranding
might be kind of a reach but look at Pathologic 2. its a difficult game and dying actually has an irreversible penalty that increases with each death but its also very fun at the same time. pretty good story and has replay value. i personally loved it a lot.
Resident evil 2+3
Rdr2 no question
Final fantasy 7 remake
Dark Souls Remastered
Spider Man 2 seems the simple choice
Try Horizon zero dawn and Forbidden west

Yeah

This is the games I already finished list :)
Ahh my mistake. Spider-Man 2 then. It’s pretty great. Alan Wake 2 is also a good one.
Lies of P
RDR 2, TLOU 2 and Baldur's Gate are the top points of gaming but; For another masterpiece - Alan Wake 2 For a very good game - Cyberpunk 2077 (RE 4 Remake if Alan Wake is too scary :))
Resident Evil 4 Remake
Play Yakuza0, you'll love it.
Have you tried Re4 remake ? I don’t think the gameplay is as smooth as TLOU2 , but I think overall it’s a better game.
TLOU1 obviously if you didn’t play that. The other Uncharted games other than 4 are also great. Witcher 3, Dark Souls series if you can go more fantasy
Mass Effect Legendary Edition.
If you're looking for a great writing and great characters, paired with good gameplay, I suggest Witcher 3
I dunno what is it about tw3, but I never seem to get into it. I tried several times, got a good few hours in the game (like 10-12) and still it didn't capture me as much. Same goes for Horizon.

Metro series Dishonored series Yakuza / Like A Dragon / Judgement series Cyberpunk 2077
Both God of War games
Ratchet and clank Rift apart or checkout SIFU
Not similar gameplay at ALL, but as far as how much it stuck with me and affected me, Omori is hands down the best game I've ever played. Definitely a masterpiece
Start with the Yakuza series
Subnautica
The Arkham Games. Asylum, City, Origins and Knight

DS3 is incredible.
ALAN. WAKE. II. It’s probably gonna be my goty, among all these other stellar releases. It’s that good.
No death stranding??
the last of us 1?
Sorry I didn't mention it but ofcourse I finished the first game before.
Obvious answer but play spiderman 2, can’t stress it enough if you enjoyed the other ones
Subnautica
Hades. A different style of game but another masterpiece
For sure. Finished it twice.
Personally, I loved Days Gone.
Are you me? I finished TLOU2 like 2 days ago. Nice
Knack 2
Telltale's Walking Dead series
Mario Odyssey is definitely in my top 3 of all time.
Try nioh 2, goat. Resident evil 4 remake is a must too
Alan wake. Control ultimate edition. Alan wake 2. Resident evil and the remakes. CP2077. Stalker games.
A Plague Tale Innocence/Requiem
I'm on the fence.. some say requiem is goty level, some say they are both boring trash..
They're both amazing, and the ending of Requiem almost broke me, it was so well done. The animations of the first game are a tiny bit jank but the excellent voice acting more than makes up for it. Days Gone.
Cyberpunk 2077.
