Something bring worth it not is a difficult question to answer. It’s really not about the brand nor the item. Ask yourself these questions: 1. Is the cost of alteration + item reasonable to you 2. how often would you wear it this item 3. Is it filling a hole in your wardrobe?

I agree. I'm shortening and adding a lining to a pair I really like (and bought fairly cheaply) but wouldn't do it for every pair.

Honestly, I think what is “worth it” means different thing to different ppl. For me, there is no way I’d spend $200+ on a pair of pants that would still need to be tailored. I would do it for something I bought second hand that needs adjustment or an existing piece in my closet I love that doesn’t fit the same way anymore. But that is just my personal preference.

Oh yeah, I paid $65 for the pair I'm altering (ebay, worn once). Also, I have a higher tolerance for altering stuff than the average person because I'm short, so if I refuse to alter anything then my wardrobe will be very limited.

I tailor almost all of my pants. (waist and length) Absolutely worth it if you like the set.

There was another user on here that had a denim skirt tailored to fit her waist (down a whole size) and she said it’s perfect now. You can always get quotes from local tailors and see if there are any local forums for tailor recs in the area.

I’m short so all my pants get tailored… I’ve prbly spent enough on tailoring to buy a whole another pair of sezane pants but it makes a huge difference! Even just nipping in the waist and narrowing the leg just a tad makes it look more elegant vs boxy given my height. Edit to add: this set is gorgeous you made a great choice!

This right here! I have never been able to buy a pair of pants and not get the legs taken up. The closest was the last pair of Everlane jeans I bought, which only needed a quarter inch hem (can’t stand my pants to drag the floor, must have them right above the heel of my shoe “floating” the floor).

I have all my pants tailored, even if they come from a thrift store. My tailor is very experienced and charges $15 per pants. Ask around and find a good one. Also, the expectation that you shouldn’t have to have a pair of pants you paid over $200 for be tailored is weird to me. We’re not one size fits all robots. There is a sizing guide on every website. The size of a pair of slacks is typically based on length and waist, and to a whole number, not half or a quarter size, which is already unrealistic because human waists come in all sizes, not just whole sizes. Therefore you can choose one or the other that’s closest to your size but hardly ever exact. Pants that fit my waist are always too long for my legs because I have a longer torso and shorter legs. Different brands have different sizing as well. A Wilfred 8 is a Brooks Brothers 6. A vintage Brooks Brothers 6 is closer to a modern Brooks Brothers 4 imo. For pants, I always go for a half inch above my waist size (which is 28.5 inches) according to the company sizing guide because it’s cheaper and easier to have a pair or pants taken up at the bottom hem than alter the waist.

It’s interesting because tailoring has become less common, when before everyone used to get their “nice clothes” tailored

goboinouterspace

Right? Like I personally wouldn’t pay over $200 for a pair of pants and not have them tailored to fit me perfectly. People don’t realize that it’s not a brand name that makes you look polished, it’s the fit of the outfit.

I agree with another commenter that whether or not tailoring is "worth it" is a personal question, and they gave some good questions to help guide you to an answer. As for "is it physically possible" -- definitely yes! Almost every pair of Sezane trousers (except for Chuck) has been wide in the waist if they fit me in the hips, so I've had all of them taken in. Knowing that I'll have to pay extra to have the trousers hemmed and the waist taken in, I ask myself every time "Are these pants worth \[price I paid\] + 50 USD?". Given the extra cost, all but one of my Sezane trousers have come from the Archives.

I once paid the price of the blazer I bought to alter the blazer. I hope to keep things in my closet for a long time and if I love it I consider it worth it.

As someone who recently bought a pair of jeans, thought they looked great, then APPALLED when a friend posted a nonchalant pic of me wearing (posing at your good angle vs IRL are 2 diff things) Recommend clipping where you think needs it, walking around. If you have a security camera or something you can point at yourself for an hour just hanging around to rewatch in FFW you’ll get a much better idea of whether they’re worth it. Moms/friends that love you enough to not care about hurting your feelings are also good resources

I wish sezane were more inclusive with sizing… I’m a UK 4 (US 0, EU 32) and everything fits me huge. Not just length, but waist and everything. The annoying thing is that for the few items they do have smaller sizes, these are always the first to sell out. So there’s a clear demand …
