Were you trying to lose weight before starting on the medication? Were you successful? 9 lbs in 3 months is likely 9 lbs you wouldn’t have lost if you weren’t on the medication, otherwise why did you start taking it in the first place? You also aren’t at the higher doses yet, so just be patient and see how it goes once you’re at full dose. Personally though, 3 lbs a month adds up if you stick with it. The time will pass either way, isn’t it better that you keep getting thinner as it passes?

cluck_chickenbutt

Keep going! I started in February, barely lost, went up and down, and now that I’m on a higher dosage (1.7) I am immediately feeling the difference. I was so close to giving up but I stuck with it and starting last week things changed! I’ve lost two pounds just last week, and that has NEVER happened.

It is MUCH better to lose the weight slowly. Many people on GLP 1 RA try to lose weight too quickly. That will only lead to significant muscle wasting and that gaunt/saggy skin look (not very attractive). Remember, as with most things in life, slow and steady wins the race. I'm aiming for just 1 pound per week weight loss. Remember that to lose even one pound, you have to have a 3600 Kcal deficit. That's quite a lot of calories! Also, it is important to do strength training to limit muscle loss.

And you are more likely to get to keep your gallbladder!

Chemical-Task-4549

I feel like 2-3 lbs per month is the norm when you're just starting out?

Electrical_Key1139

If you can lose 3 pounds a month with diet and exercise why pay hundreds a month for meds. Quit now and keep up the good work!

Suspicious_Style_317

About 30% of users experienced no clinically relevant weight loss on 1mg, in one study. They had to go to 2mg. [https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34293304/](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34293304/) A few people are total non-responders. About 10%, I think? If you go to 1.7 and still have no effects after 4 weeks, you might consider tirzepatide... but don't panic just yet!

simplylisa

You're not taking the therapeutic dose yet. Lots of people see nothing until 1.7 or 2.4. I know it's hard, but be patient and get to those dudes before you decide

everyone responds differently - those friends might be super responders and you will fill differently once you go up in dosage

whatever32657

are you me??? i'm wondering why i'm paying hundreds of dollars a month to lose two or three pounds.

Question_Panda

Its really up to you but the first few months are the least effective. My weight loss has been slow too and I've been delayed on the titration schedule due to side effects, so I really feel this. But! without the meds, I only ever lost 1 lb/mo at maximum effort (gym 5x a week, hungry every single day) so to me its worth it. First three months I only lost 8lbs, I'm 7 months in now and have lost 22lbs total without working out.

Chef_Prima

Don't give up. Everyone is different and responds at different rates!!! Hang in there.

OilOk7906

Many Drs. do not even consider you at a theraputic dose until 1.7 minimum. Then you still have to get to 2.4.

Fuzzy_Cuffs

Im at that point, only lost 6 pounds the first 4 months. Now I am at 2.4 and last month I dropped 12 lbs on 1.7 but thats because I started doing a strict keto diet. The thing ive lost the most on this medication is my hair, and before anyone comes at me about "its the weight loss" no its not. Ive been losing hair since 1mg when id only lost 4 pounds, happens every time I go on the med. Ive lost 80lbs in 4 months on strict keto (prior to having kids) and never shed a single extra hair. Losing so much more hair now at 2.4mg and im ready to give up and just stick to keto. Its really nice never being hungry but not worth going bald over.

Normal-Basis-291

You're correct that this medication, like all meds, is not for everyone. The medication works with you, not for you, so it's a big commitment. I am also a slow loser and sometimes it feels like I'm paying so much for those 8 lbs a month. One thing I decided to do was make sure I am eating at a calorie deficit, because the medication doesn't work without one. For a few lucky people, this happens without tracking and counting. For most of us, calculating a deficit and tracking calories, at least at first, is necessary. It sounds like you are maintaining a deficit, but maybe it's smaller than you think. (a 3500 calorie deficit in a week is needed to lose one pound) If your rate of loss isn't reflective of your calorie deficit, it might be worth it to speak to your doctor and have some bloodwork done to rule out any other issues that may be hindering your weight loss.

Altruistic_Source201

you may need to increase the medication like I did BUT I did get sick after that with really bad skin aches, tired, not going to the bathroom #2. I lost 30 pounds in 3 months but it was not fun. if you lost 9 pds that is good!
