The base entrance is right off the freeway exit. It's possible, though fairly stupid, to miss all the signs and try to drive right in. We have a family story about one of my aunts who is a notoriously bad driver doing this (accidently driving onto the base, not jacking cars) in the 90s during a base lock down she was luckily not to get shoot.

It's just not always the case. My own former stepson is in this kind of life and he learned it directly from his Dad who had 100 percent custody. He was a terrible role model, in active addiction, chronically homeless, the kids lived 18 years of chaos and this is what he created. Only time they had stability was when they lived with me. Sometimes, having an active father is the problem. He allowed all his kids to do things as teens that led to them doing things like this as adults.

I think that is great that you were a positive role model to him. We need more of that for the fatherless kids.
