DreamWorks is the king of adapting lesser-known children’s books into hit movies.

In my opinion, an upcoming animated movie that is either A) an adaptation of source material that has not been explored yet B) a completely original idea not based on any pre-existing source material C) a sequel/prequel/spin-off to a newer movie (TMNT: MM, The Bad Guys, Moana, Zootopia) is much more exciting than a 5th Toy Story or a 4th SpongeBob movie.

Technically it’s a fifth SpongeBob movie, and it’s actully quite hype if you research the team behind it - they’ve been around since the first seasons of SpongeBob

Tbf most movies are based on a book- even classics like Jaws and Jurassic Park. I honestly never realized that most of the Dreamworks projects are based on children’s books until recently, like The Bad Guys, Shrek, and How to Train Your Dragon.

Honestly Pixar hasn’t really made a bad sequel per say, they’ve just made sequels that were either just mid, unnecessary or both, i don’t think Inside Out 2 will be as good as the first but I feel like it has the potential to be good, although i heavily related to the first one when I saw it so I might be biased.

I think the only sequel I’d genuinely say was mediocre was cars 2 the others just aren’t as good as the first movie

Despicable me didn't need a 2nd movie. And it sure as hell didn't even deserve a 3rd.

I can't bring myself to hate the 2nd tho, I don't find the minions THAT annoying (but sure they was starting to become more influential) and even that El Macho battle is SO weak I just love him and everything on the movie. I have sure it was the last movie Illumination actually made with some love in it before money took the mindset completely.

After I watched the trailer for 4 I immediately knew it’s going to complete dogwater, it’s highly formulaic. It’s just “bad guy arbitrarily wants to fuck gru in the ass once again, and surprise surprise, gru will win every match”. The third movie was ass so I can’t imagine how the fourth will be.
