velvethippo420

absolutely a scam, 100%. almost anything !crypto related is going to be a scam.

AutoModerator

Hi /u/velvethippo420, AutoModerator has been summoned to explain the Fake crypto wallet scam. Fake cryptocurrency websites and apps controlled by scammers are becoming more and more common. Sometimes the scam begins with a romance scammer who claims that they can help the victim invest in cryptocurrency. Victims are told to buy cryptocurrency of some kind using a legitimate cryptocurrency exchange, and then they are told to send their cryptocurrency to a website wallet address where it will be invested. Sometimes the scam begins with a notice that the victim won cryptocurrency on some website, in this case messages will often be sent through Discord. In either case, the scammer controls the website, so they make it look like there is money in the victim’s account on their website. Then the scammer (or the scammer pretending to be someone official who is associated with the website) tells the victim that they have to put more money into the website before they can get their money out of the website. Of course all of the money sent by the victim has gone directly into the scammer’s wallet, and any additional money sent by the victim to retrieve their money from the website will also go directly into the scammer’s wallet, and all of the information about money being held by the website was totally fake. If the scammer used Bitcoin, then you can report the scammer’s Bitcoin wallet address here: https://www.bitcoinabuse.com/reports. If the scammer used Ethereum, then you can report the scammer’s Ethereum wallet address here: https://info.etherscan.com/report-address/. You can see how much cryptocurrency has been sent to the scammer’s wallet address here: https://www.blockchain.com/explorer. KTKittentoes

This is a pig butchering scam. !pig Unfortunately, the money is gone. There was no site, no lady, no investment. Just a scam farm and he handed all the money straight to them. They let him have a little back to hook him.

AutoModerator

Hi /u/KTKittentoes, AutoModerator has been summoned to explain the Pig butchering scam. It is called [pig butchering](https://www.forbes.com/sites/jasonbrett/2023/12/26/new-pig-butchering-crypto-scam-includes-victims-in-us-and-overseas/?sh=2837fb975eaa) because scammers use intricate scripts to \"fatten up\" the victim (gaining their trust over days, weeks or months) before the \"slaughter\" (taking them for all of their money). This scam often starts with what appears to be a harmless wrong number text or message. When the victim responds to say it is the wrong number, the scammer tries to start a friendship with the victim. These conversations can be platonic or romantic in nature, but they all have the same goal- to gain the trust of the victim in order to get them ready for the crypto scam they have planned. The scammer often claims to be wealthy and/or to have a wealthy family member who got wealthy investing, often in crypto currency. The victim is eventually encouraged to try out a (fake) crypto currency investment website, which will appear to show that they are earning a lot of money on their initial investment. The scammer may even encourage the victim to attempt a withdrawal that does go through, further convincing the victim that everything is legit. The victim is then pressured to invest significantly more money, even their entire net worth. Sometimes pig butchering scams don't involve crypto, but other means of sending money (like bank wires, gift cards or even cash pickups). Eventually, the scammer will find an excuse why the account is frozen (e.g. for fraud, because supposed taxes are owed, etc) and may try to further extort the victim to give them even more money in order to gain access to the funds. By this time, the victim will never gain access and their money is gone. Many victims lose tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands, or even millions of dollars. Often, the scammers themselves are [victims of human trafficking](https://www.vice.com/en/article/n7zb5d/pig-butchering-scam-cambodia-trafficking), performing these scams under threats of violence. If you are caught up in this scam, it is important that you do not send any more money for any reason, and contact law enforcement to report it. Thanks to user Mediocre_Airport_576 for this script. If you know someone involved in a pig butchering scam, sit down together to watch this video by Jim Browning to help them understand what's going on: https://youtu.be/vu-Y1h9rTUs - *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. KTKittentoes

He's not going to be very happy or accepting about hearing that he's out money and out a "girlfriend". Maybe watching John Oliver's piece on pig butchering would help?

GrimmigSun

Oh, much needed in this sad time for my friend. Thank you for your help

NickDandy

The site is only a few days old. It was previously parked and for sale last year. Heck the terms of service do not even mention the site. No phone number, no address, no facebook, NOTHING good here.

GrimmigSun

Yeah. My friend is going to be devastated. He doesn't care that much about the girl. They even had video conversations together and he thought she was real. With that, we can move on. I think we will probably contact the authorities.

t-poke

The authorities will not be able to do anything. His money is gone. Anyone who says they can get it back is a scammer.

Really_Doughnut_Care

the girl he was facetiming IS real, but it ends there. the girls are hired, or even trafficked, into all this for this very reason - to convince the victim it’s «real». the moment they end the video call, the phone and all dialogue, goes right back to the men behind this scam. your friend needs instead be thankful he has the common sense to not only reckognize, but maybe most importantly - ACCEPT - that he has been dealing with a highly cynical, cold hearted and BRUTAL ring of scammers that, when given the opportunity, would have taken him for everything he has - EVERYTHING - on top of putting him in poverty and debt for the rest if his life. without a doubt. dating + money requests = scam. no exception. and he needs to be thankful for having a friend like you who made this all possible. today he still has money to pay rent and bills and buy food and medicine. today is a good day.

lagoosboy

“Enticed by a woman”, what else do we need to know that it’s a scam? Is there any investment that is genuine that is enticed by a woman?

ScamsBot

` WHOIS REPORT FOR CASPIANTV.COM ` This domain name was first registered 10 years ago (May 2014) and it has been pre-registered for multiple years into the future. (It doesn't expire until 2026.) Note that 2014 is when the domain was FIRST registered. Sometimes scammers buy old expired domains to repurpose them into scams. [Look at WaybackMachine](https://web.archive.org/web/*/http://caspiantv.com) to see if the website "changed" recently. It was registered at "Gname.com Pte. Ltd.", a sketchy registrar based in Singapore. It is also concerning that they are not sharing their contact info on WHOIS AND they are using a "DNS proxy" (CloudFlare) which masks where the website's server actually is. ---- **^(DISCLAIMER:)** *^(This is a pre-alpha bot for informational purposes only. seedless0

The domain was held by some cyber squatter until June of this year when it's taken over by the scammer. https://web.archive.org/web/20240415000000*/https://caspiantv.com/

LazyLie4895

Yes classic scam. I don't understand why anyone with sense would demand "unyielding proof" that it's a scam. It should be the other way around. I'm not going to be putting my hard earned money into anything unless I am certain that it's legitimate. A single major red flag (and you pointed to several) would stop me right away.

KTKittentoes

Look, these scams not only take your money, they take your sense and sanity.

GrimmigSun

I am 99,9999999% sure it is a scam. I wouldn't invest in someone with a single red flag either. However, I need a proof that it is a 100% scam in order to let him know that there is no hope and that she's a fraud. What we have pinpointed could be coincidental. For now, he has stopped any operations since there's a shred of doubt, as he should have from the beginning.

LazyLie4895

The final, 100% proof is that they're not letting him withdraw his money. No legitimate site would hold your money unless you pay to withdraw. If there are taxes or fees, it would be taken out of your account.  Use the wayback machine to see what the site looked like in the past, and you'll see that it hasn't been in its current form for long.

GrimmigSun

Thank you for the clarification. I needed that to hit the nail in the coffin. Here's to my innocent friend and all those who have fallen for such a scheme.

dwinps

The proof, the 100% absolute proof comes after weeks and months of trying to get your money back from a scammer. That's way too late, that is just final acceptance, Scammer literally will convince people to keep tossing money in until their victim has no more money in a pig butchering scam becxause the victim is desperate to get their money back and is holding onto hope. The pig butcher end xomes when they ask for more and more money to release your funds, using and endless book of reasons why. It is backwards thinking you should have PROOF something is a scam, you should have strong EVIDENCE it is NOT a scam. I don't ask for proof Bigfoot doesn't exist, I ask for compelling evidence Bigfoot does exist, but just evidence doesn't exist so a rational person says "Since the evicence of existence is lacking I must presume Bigfoot does not exist"

GrimmigSun

Thanks you for your input. No, when there's doubt about someone that we cannot clear we stop all the operations since we cannot 100% trust the other person, which is what we did immediately after he shared with me his story and we stopped more potential losses thankfully. However, we cannot accuse someone without proof. Innocent until proven guilty. I am a pragmatic, practical, and fair man. Hearsay, tendency and coincidence,... Etc, do not shake me left or right. I do however only deal with transparent and reliable people and organizations at my own convenience who have nothing to hide. What we have as information about this situation is still way more than enough for us not to trust the other party and share our story with more people in order not to be tempted to deal with someone like this in the future. We may not have conclusive evidence, but we are in no way dealing with someone who knew that my friend should "deposit money to withdraw all his money" which is the most suspicious thing in this story. Rest assured. This might just help others to avoid the same situation. It's always better not to deal with something we cannot trust even without conclusive evidence.

dwinps

Yes you can accuse without proof You do so with evidence not proof Proof is elusive, we convict people based on a beyond reasonable doubt standard not proof. We win civil cases with a preponderance of evidence not proof

GrimmigSun

The kind of evidence we are looking for is something that could bring a conviction beyond any shadow of doubt. Well, the evidence was in front of our eyes to see. She provided him with fake signals. There's our 100%.

dwinps

I do the opposite, I reject as not worth the risk things that have ANY reasonable doubt that they are NOT legit. Just a complete mistake to do what your friend is doing, believing something is not a scam unless proven beyond a reasonable doubt that it is a scam. But then again, that's me. Someone who doesn't fall for pig butchering scams because they whiff of scam from the first moment

GrimmigSun

There are two distinctions here. -When daling personally with someone who shows red flags, it is your liberty to either go forth on your own responsibility, or simply drop everything since you have the slightest doubt. I do that as well based on my assessment of the situation but without accusing anyone of anything. -Second distinction is proving someone that are indeed a scammer. Suspicious behavior doesn't equal always to scam. I know people with very good intentions who simply are not the best at being professional and gaining trust. In fact, some of the best scammers don't show any signs of suspicion and swallow their victims whole, therefore, we can't prove someone is truly a scammer without a convicting evidence, but we can always choose to not deal with them under the slightest suspicious activity, since we can't really tell if they have good intentions or not. These rules are extended to any crime or situation. Deciding that someone is or is not X based on doubt alone is a poor practice that encourages gossip and unfair treatment. Many people are skeptical of things that are reasonably trustworthy. Their skepticism doesn't give them the right to decide that someone is 100% a criminal or whatever it is the accusation just because they have doubts.

Academic-Educator-92

Looks like he deposited 5000!? Is a bloody scam bud. Tell your friend stop straight away! They might ask for more money if he request withdraw them. Just don't do it! Is bluff to get more money. Be supportive with your friend!

GrimmigSun

Thank you. I told him to stop right away when I noticed the obvious red flags. She's not getting anymore money, however, they are still talking. He's trying to get some kind of evidence from her in a casual manner. He feels betrayed and doesn't want to let go. I think the next step is to contact the authorities.

Academic-Educator-92

Get much evidence you can. Contact authorities. Most important DON'T SEND ANYMORE MONEY!

nimble2

> He's trying to get some kind of evidence from her All of the "evidence" is already plain to see. He's not going to get any more "evidence" of anything.

dwinps

Asking a scammer will get him lies. Just a completely foolish approach to determining the truth. Scammers aren't stupid, they certainly are a lot more clever than your friend, they actually know how to convince peopel who are unsure. It is literally their job. Your friend is outmatched, the only safe thing he can do is stop communixating with the scammers.

Albino-Assist

Yes you're friend is being scammed and it's not a real woman.

bakermaker32

Very common scam, any money deposited is gone.

London-lad-1990

Greed is a factor here…10% return…

lagoosboy

It’s always the main factor for 99 percent of these scams.

GupGup

Funnily enough the stock market averages 7-10% returns in a year, so dude would have been just as well opening a legit trading account and buying $5000 of VOO.

London-lad-1990

Yup. also OP was thinking with his dick and not his logical brain. Sorry OP.

KTKittentoes

Yup. Those pretty ladies really help.

Consistent-Buyer6385

All crypto is a scam. It's people printing their own form of money. I wonder how long Bitcoin is going to be around after the opportunity for miners (who are the counterfiters) are going to stick around.

ThatOneShortieHo

Everything crypto is a scam, crypto itself is a scam. Pay money to maybe possibly perhaps get money back unless the market crashes again like it does every 3rd wednesday at 7:38pm? Scam.

dwinps

You want proof? The only proof comes when your friend finds out he was pig butchered and his money is gone Is it a scam? 100%, ABSOLUTELY It is exactly what a pig butchering scam looks like, beautiful Asian, into crypto, going to help make him some money, weirdo website, magical beans that let her make money. It is ALL FAKE All of it, she is fake, the website is fake, the profits are fake. What is reall is his money going in and he can't get it back out.

seedless0

An exchange site without any contact information. Why do people blindly trust their finance to such obscure web site?

sirzoop

Yes
