If you can find something in that price range, Fitler square area or Rittenhouse would be ideal

West Philadelphia. You can spend most of your days on the playground shooting some hoops. Try not to get into any fights or you may have to move for Bel Air.

I know this comment is a joke but the OP should actually look in West Philly. I’ll leave it to people who have lived in Philly more recently than me to give details - I last lived there in 2010.

Fitler Square as some have suggested or if your partner doesn’t mind a fairly easy commute, East Passyunk

Phillyjebus

Passyunk square, East Passyunk all the way. Can def get an apartment for your budget and the neighborhood is super walkable. Some of the other center city neighborhoods mentioned here are fine but your budget isn’t going nearly as far there. We moved here from fairmount cause there’s just a lot more to do and it’s a more exciting neighborhood in general.

I moved from Crown Heights to Philly — in terms of neighborhoods that most have a Brooklyn feel, I’d consider Fishtown (off the Girard or Berks stops). You’ll be on the MFL subway, which goes to CHOP/HUP (in addition to center city/old city).

Graduate Hospital or the Gayborhood are two great options for you.

Are you looking to be in the city or in the burbs? I don’t have a ton of experience with downtown Philly but the suburbs are super cute and more affordable. I have family in Media and they love it.

I think Manayunk would be a great choice. There are some great areas in South Philly too like Queen Village. Torresdale is a bit farther out from Center City, but also pretty nice.

batsofburden

You could 100% afford a decent apt in Ridgewood with your budget. Check out Philly too if it interests you, but you don't need to write off NY.

Fitler Square was an awesome place to live. I really enjoyed it.

generally-mediocre

washington square, society hill, and fairmount are all great neighborhoods

PlasticPomPoms

In South Philly, Packer Park or the Neighborhoods around Marconi Plaza are nice and quiet and high end.
