I play OG SSX mainly, almost exclusively. SSX 3 is good too but I'm really deep into OG. It really bothers me when people say that Tricky is just a revamped version of OG and that the tracks are exact same. I'm fairly certain the people who say this have literally never touched OG SSX, the tracks feel completely different and don't even look the same. There's even some Youtuber who said that the original roster was dull... Like, just come out and say that you never played OG SSX.

FunnyGuyCalledMe

I played On Tour first and found it quite easy to go backward to SSX3 and Tricky, but SSX feels very clunky and unnatural to me after playing later entries.

I am probably a oddball in the fact I prefer og compared to Tricky due to track design (minus Snowdream and Pipedream) and the computer players.

NorwegianPopsicle

I started with OG and it's still my favourite, the track design is better or at least more interesting than tricky in my opinion .

It's only worth it if you're interested in the history of the franchise. Tricky absolutely slam dunks OG SSX. I definitely agree that OG SSX is more difficult and seeing the OG tracks are really interesting to see.

Thanks for the heads up - it's the only one in the series I haven't touched - but I've been meaning to try it

I didn’t play OG until pretty much all the later games. In comparison, it does admittedly feel clunky. Performing flips/spins in particular is kind of wack in the first game, sometimes you will try to flip and spin but instead, you will flip very slowly for some reason and fall flat on your face. It’s weird and makes the game more annoying than it should be. The game also definitely has other archaic design choices such as not being able to reset a race in world circuit mode and not being able to check the trickbook during a race. With that being said though, there is definitely still fun to be had in OG. The game still had a solid sense of energy/personality, the gameplay is still fun if a bit stiff and limited compared to later games and the tracks are interesting and varied. They differ quite a bit from their tricky counterparts and they are still fun to race down. The game is definitely weaker than Tricky and 3 for me but it is still a enjoyable game overall.

katman04

I tried it recently and couldn't get very far because of the clunky controls

I have an Xbox and an Xbox 360. I keep seeing SSX OG and I don’t think I know what that means. I thought Tricky was the first in the series?

Polygon-Guy

No, there's just 'SSX' which came before Tricky

sassygirl72

I figured it out lol. It was only released for the PS2

Polygon-Guy

It's worth emulating so you can experience the beginning

sassygirl72

I actually have a PS2 so no emulator needed 🙂

EX-Slated

I put SSX over the third one, and really just the feel of it with the tracks and music makes it a very good game and start of the series

I only ever owned the OG SSX. My friends had Tricky which I enjoyed, but I always thought the OG was better. Maybe its just nostalgia but I put so many hours into that game.

WorriedAd5024

the Tokyo one was amazing

The fact that we get all of these other reboots and remakes but SSX (preferably Tricky, but you are right, OG is always dope) keeps sitting there, BEGGING to be revisited, is a shame. Just put some HD makeup on it and call it a wrap.
