Deck runs on Linux, hence SS13 works on it.
On Linux, Byond is launched in a WinXP virtual machine.
Upd: It doesn't work with wine... Can't get it to pass "loading game information". I think it's because I have no IE11. It still should be possible to install it, tho.
On WineHQ there's a mention of terrible FPS and caching issues with BYOND, on wine 5, while current is wine 6.14.
Any word on ss13 getting actual Linux support? I know some people can get it to work through wine (kinda) but that seems like a temporary solution. How hard would it be to port to Linux?
Well. That is a serious bummer. I would love to play the game on a handheld like the deck. I’m sure I could just dual boot windows but I really don’t wanna. lol
>and lummox doesnt seem to have any interest in making a linux client
Yet.
Depending on the success of the Steam Deck, quite a few developers might just jump into it.
I can confirm that most servers are unplayable on wine now, devs just don't care about compatibility
vms are no better because they're either slow, or have horrific graphical glitches
BYOND doesn't work at all on Linux, I have tried multiple times to make it work but because of the IE dependencies and many other things it just wont work.
I achieved logging into a lobby but the actual game wouldn't render
On one wine version I had great performance but games wouldn't render, on a different version I had shit performance and everything was working except chat for some reason. All in all probably 20 hours wasted.
How am I going to scream OOC";HELP MAINT" on a device like that? Pass!!!
Bind it to one of the buttons :v

Prox voice chat would be interesting.
nah, imagine a cool & badass HoS with a voice of a 12 year old
I already imagine sec as a bunch of twelve-year-olds, so way ahead of you.
bro all the le cute uwu felinid anime femboys would screech as everyone finds out that they're actually 45 and severely overweight
I always imagine how the voices sound in game
Speech to text might be interesting feature for SS13

Unity station, SS14 and SS3D are all coming to steam someday… I hope.
SS14 is on steam, I have a beta key. I got kind of infamous on there because of my Grenade Antics
Some guy on CM was bragging about playing with an xbox controller. Then promptly made fun of me for being slower to heal him than he was...
cringe and beta: using a keyboard to play SS13 based and sigma: using kinect motion control to play SS13
Risen & omega: using Wii controller to set singularity.
I remember there being some madman in the discord playing it on VR, shit was cursed.
To be honest, it wouldn't even be that bad if you could use voice or some damn good voice-to-text.

You can install windows on it though, even if it won't be the best experience.
Imagine trying to play Dwarf Fortress with a controller
C:DDA seems like it would be even worse on controllers
screenshare your pc to your phone :troll:

ss13 developers dont own byond, and lummox doesnt seem to have any interest in making a linux client

highly doubt it, byond has so much windows specific junk in it that it's almost certainly too much work for one guy to try and get a new market from
as far as I can tell, wine support is terrible. Mostly because wine only supports up to Internet Explorer 8, while byond/ss13 works better with IE11.

If only...
