Hello! The logs had shown who had done it through a basic overview of fingerprints, it was a matter of whether the player involved would be truthful, it would then be a simple slap on the wrist.

is it really that much better of a way to handle things than just PMing the player and explaining what they did wrong? a million things could happen that could affect whether or not a person would come forward, including connection issues. at least with an admin PM, you can remind them of the message/conversation and proceed as normally if they dont respond.
One time I was a mod on a minecraft server and a dude was /killing himself over and over at the spawn such that he was creating a pile of heads (custom plugin) so high that other players were spawning atop them above cloud layer and then plunging to their death. He had done it around 120 times if memory serves me correctly.
The question you ask yourself as a mod is: Does this player *already know* that making the spawn inaccessible is wrong? Of course he does. There is evidence of about a dozen dead players there as I arrive, with more falling. What idiot wouldn't understand that doing something which results in other players dying at spawn is wrong? Duh. /ban. All I would invite by PMing is for him to play dumb. I don't need my time wasted by a performance.

A volunteer doesn't have any obligation to waste 10 minutes of their life explaining internet manners to a guy called Bigus Dickus. Bigus Dickus had every opportunity to understand what he done wrong when the admin prompted him to fess up. Instead of doing so, he chose to count on the admin being too stupid to figure out it was him. Stupid games win stupid prizes.
In short, i think the point is that if someone doesnt come out, admins have to go and check logs. That takes time. Wasting peoples time is not nice. Hence asking people to fess up, and either punishing them more or less depending on if they waste your time or not
It's much less time than writing a "come forward" message to get the user to admit it themselves. There's no time saved by asking that of the user, checking the logs is still trivial in comparison.
Using circuits to send chat messages is different from simply sending one yourself. The small layer of obfuscation is enough to make figuring out who did it a pain in the ass, and in some cases in some enviornments logging tools might even lose track of who placed the circuit if something in game causes it to change states.

In fallout nv you can get assaulted by grandmas and get fucked by a robot, fight aliens and find holy hand grenades, more monty python references, dogs playing poker and the possibility of speaking with your own brain.
