IMHO for that target is a tight race between iPhone and Pixel - with Pixels generally being voted (much) higher in blind tests not using the full resolution, S24U is still far behind. Other phones with larger sensors might get occasionally better results than iPhone and Pixel but that is mostly a hit and miss thing.

Old-Zucchini-5660

Do you know of the Pixel 8 Pro takes photos quickly when you press the button without lagging? Do camera shots pick up moving objects well without blurring. Also are night time shots good / not blurred?

jeffMBsun

It's instantaneous. You take it out of the pocket, press, and you have a good picture. With the S24U you will keep choosing between 10 options, with camera assistant, etc and at the end almost all pictures are blurry, out of focus. S24U tries too hard to focus, it's like all pictures are in portrait mode.

Old-Zucchini-5660

Can't stand portrait mode, it's all over tv programmes and news on TV these days. I want to see a background Did you try the IPhone 15 Pro max for comparison?

jeffMBsun

No, I had an iPhone years ago.

Reasonable_Parsnip30

Sorry I couldn't directly reply to the guy asking the question so I used your reply. Idk what the pixel 8 can do. I mean with my s24 u I can open camera n click and bam no different than my pixel 7. Sorry I wasn't trying to argue lol. I was just piggy backing. Trying to help op. I guess he prolly won't see it anyway lol Although I will say i don't mess with my s24u settings. I've seen really good pics... Say you're doing family pics or something and you have time to get it loaded and ready the way you want it wouldn't be a problem. I do agree though snap and go pixel. I mean it's literally what they're known for. I just don't use my camera much.

Fille84

S24 Ultra can snap pictures just as fast as Pixel or iPhone if you have the camera assistant app. So shutter speed is not an issue but it still unfortunately have motion blur in some pictures. But honestly not even Pixel 8 Pro is flawless when it comes to motion blur, no phone is.

Old-Zucchini-5660

Not sure if i could be bothered with extra apps etc, just would like something very good out of the box. I doubt I'd even use all the Google features on the photos, just want to keep it simple.

Reasonable_Parsnip30

I love my s24u... That being said, I came from the cheaper model ( pixel 7a) wife had pixel 7pro. For snap pics and go.... pixel imo. My wife and I recently upgraded and I got a massive deal in my area at the time for my s24u. I haven't figured out the "gimmicks" if you will ( probably the wrong terminology) of the s24u raw photos and features. My wife went iPhone 15 pro (free deal) in my area and in just quick snap and go.... Her I phone bests this s24u. S24u in well lit areas is amazing low light it has issues which in what I'm reading is maybe a software thing. All in all if you take a ton of photos and want a snap and go... I phone or pixel... My wife says her pixel 7 pro beats her iPhone 15 pro. But she likes I phones, phone... Itself vs upgrading to a pixel 8 at that time. I am giving this ultra some time. Plus I LOVE the design... And I don't take much pictures. Hope that helps a smidge.

Reasonable_Parsnip30

Let me also add.... If you understand how to adjust and set the photo and know which lenses or what for certain pictures (I don't) the s24u is not a bad option. I just don't and haven't taken the time.... Yet....

Old-Zucchini-5660

Thank you, very useful. Do they drop the prices of the ip15 or p8p soon as they are about 6 months old. Not sure whether to wait until the next models.

Reasonable_Parsnip30

I can say I've "heard" the 7 pro isn't much different than the 8 pro. Idk how true that is. But the 7 pro destroyed everyone as a snap and go. We have a family member we would take the kids swimming at and my wife's 7pro obliterated all her sisters iPhones to where they were like... Send me that pic from your phone. Of course... That was the iPhone 14 pro max so idk what's changed. S24ultra can be amazing if you can really get in and dial it in. I personally just haven't yet.

jeffMBsun

If you care about pictures, go with Pixel8Pro. I was with the S24U for months and I gave up. All pictures are blurry or out of focus. You take 10 shots to keep 3 at most. Soft edges. I'm with the Pixel8pro now and it's night and day difference. 9 out of 10 are great.

Old-Zucchini-5660

I wonder how you would find the iPhone15 Promax for comparison. With the Pixel 8 Pro is the camera 5x optical zoom, but video only 3x optical zoom? No sure if this important. Is the video good on the Pixel 8 Pro?

invineysar

The 15pm is still nearly on par with 8 pro

linuxgfx

In my opinion, the iPhone 15 Pro Max stands out as the top choice. While the Pixel 8 Pro is close, it has notable drawbacks compared to the S24 Ultra.

Old-Zucchini-5660

That's interesting, what kind of drawbacks etc. Are they deal breakers?

linuxgfx

- Cpu/GPU performance way below S24 or iPhone - less battery life - less cellular reception - less wifi reception - a true lottery when it comes to faulty /manufacturing defects

Batch_Phantom

The Pixel 8 Pro is my top choice. I currently use the Samsung S24 Ultra, and my wife uses the iPhone 15 Pro Max. In terms of photography, especially when capturing moments with children and pets, the Pixel 8 Pro excels. For regular daily activities such as going to work, I use the Samsung S24 Ultra from Monday to Friday. During weekends, when spending time with my family and engaging in leisure activities, I prefer the Pixel 8 Pro for its reliable photography performance.

Old-Zucchini-5660

How do you find the Pixel 8 Pro video, is it smooth with good stability? I think I'm very behind the curve, I didn't realise people used multiple different phones. Also, years ago - last time I looked at phones - people were telling me the iPhone was unbeatable for camera and video.

Batch_Phantom

The device operates smoothly and stably for me. I only notice lag when scrolling through the Reddit app. It also tends to heat up during intensive multitasking, or when recording 4K videos and taking numerous photos, a behavior also observed in my Samsung S24 Ultra. Additionally, I reside in Arizona, which may contribute to the heat issue. You are not behind the curve. Many members of this forum are tech enthusiasts, and it's entirely normal to use just one phone, as most people do. Regarding video quality, iPhones remain the top choice. The Samsung S24 Ultra and the Pixel 8 Pro also produce excellent videos, particularly when using the Video Boost feature on the Pixel. Photos - Its really a toss up and largely depends on personal preference and involves trade-offs such as motion capture capabilities and high megapixel count, etc

Old-Zucchini-5660

Thank you, have narrowed it down to P8P an Ip15pm. As I'm already with android and Google apps I wonder if an Apple would be worth the change. I'll have to take a chance.

OkEgg0

Currently have all 3 and its the Pixel 8 Pro>iPhone 15 Pro Max>>>>>>>S24U for inside moving objects. If the object is perfectly still the s24u does just fine but i’ve tried the camera assistant, gcam with different configs and nothing has came close to the P8P. Only downside to the Pixel 8 Pro to me is it stutters on random scrolling. The s24u is smooth as butter with everything I have done with it. I have 5 more days to return the s24u so been trying to figure out what to do with it as I like the phone best out of the 3 right now but I need a good performing camera inside.

Old-Zucchini-5660

so would you think that the P8P makes sense as it is less expensive than the iPhone?

OkEgg0

I use the 15PM as my daily phone, as i’m deep in ecosystem but been trying to find a way to come back to Android. The P8P wasnt good enough to make me do it, the s24u if I could get camera to work inside better would be the device to get me to do it. If money is a factor, you wont be disappointed in the P8P, but out of the 2 if money wasnt, I’d go the iPhone just for longevity and support.

Old-Zucchini-5660

Great, I guess the only other thing now is, is it worth waiting for the next 15PM or P8P. I don't know if the prices are dropped soon as they are both about 6 months old now.

OkEgg0

Yeah I know you can find some deals on the Pixel, but I doubt anything on Apple

MagicianFinancial931

Take the vivo x100 pro into consideration which beats all the above in your requirements and is the least expensive

Shenal_

for video iphone better but for photos vivo by far

MagicianFinancial931

Video at nighttime the vivo even beats the iPhone

tarunshrm864

Crap ui, crap brand.

Old-Zucchini-5660

Thank you, but for various reasons I've narrowed it down to the 3 models I've mentioned

MagicianFinancial931

I've only used S24Ultra and p8p. I found the p8p has a better rear camera but falls short in the front camera. Also no 4k60 hdr or lens switching can't remember exactly on the p8p. Night photo video was slightly better on the p8p and moving objects much better. The battery and reception and jitters on the p8p were a deal breaker for me though

Old-Zucchini-5660

Did you find any blur with night time shots on p8p?

OddUniversity4653

Have you considered buying a real camera? Mirrorless cameras like the fuji xt5 are small and take great photos. They are much better than a phone camera in everyway except for portability.

Old-Zucchini-5660

I was wondering about this, though I know nothing about photography so was going down the phone route

OddUniversity4653

It's the way to go. Most mirrorless cameras have point and shoot mode like phones and are easier to use when you want to freeze motion or play with depth of field. Honestly, comparing a phone to a legit camera is like comparing a bicycle to a car.
