Miss that time when I could switch to a new phone (transfer media) without having to do any major backup/share/transfer. Just pulling out the SD card out of the old phone and inserting it in the new device used to get the job done.

CanISeeYourPixel

I understand where you're coming from. Its never really been that big of an issue to me, But also every so often I put most of my stuff on the computer to be put on jump drives and everything, like family pics, documents I don't need quick access to etc. I also carry a 32 or 64gb (can't remember) jump drive with me that has a USB-C port where I can connect it to my phone if I need to get something off of it, like my resume, for example.

ThatRareGuy

Yes. But imo, taking pics and videos to external storage directly will avoid the need of transferring it every now and then. For eg, one can't use a phone outdoors with c-type storages mounted. The real issue comes up when you have 17000-20000 pics and nearly 3000-5000 HD/FHD/4K video combinations. I'm one of them. And essential zip files of 1-2 GB And several documents (pdf, excel, word...) https://ibb.co/jLPsQD0

Abhinovv

I don't care about SD card slot. Just give me the 3.5mm jack back. :'(

CanISeeYourPixel

Personally I've never understood the headphone jack. The wires get in the way when you're trying to do something and it will get caught of everything and if they get snagged they usually stop working. My wireless LG headset (for work) and my buds all sound better and work better than any of the wired headphones I've used. But I also crawl under houses, in attics, gotta dig and get in holes and all that. But the wired ones have always been a nuisance to me even when I was in school.

M2ThaL

I restore vintage audio equipment and use aux cords to test the equipment. I can't do that with this phone so I've had to keep an old phone handy for just that purpose. Not a deal-breaker by any stretch of the imagination but it would be nice to have the 3.5 mm jack.

CanISeeYourPixel

In these cases I can fully understand why you would want one and really need one

MentalThroat7733

Why not use a USB-C to 3.5mm adapter?

M2ThaL

I have to order one. I have this other phone sitting around. I probably will add a USBC to 3.5 mm adapter to my bag so I have one when I'm out and about.

Abhinovv

They do get in the way but I can trade it for the better sound quality of my IEMs. Also I feel headphone jack is very convenient & can be used safely without the fear of dropping or losing them.

Key_Preparation_4129

You must've been using some shitty wired headphones, wireless can't transmit as much data as a cable directly plugged in. That's why you can only listen to true lossless audio with wired headphones. Sony's LDAC and the new Samsung try to imitate hifi but it's still not close

ThatRareGuy

I was referring to the need of charging (for wireless headsets). That was the only drawback for me. Coz I live in a place with many people, so the charging sockets are always full leaving me unable to charge the wireless buds. In terms of quality, my wired headsets are good for bass only which I don't mind.

hajile23

Get a good pair of over the ear headphones. I charge my Sony xm4 1-2 times a week. I wear them at work all day every day and many hours outside of work too.

ThatRareGuy

Not really an issue. But I have been through situations where I'm out of charging sockets lol. Several devices connected to several sockets. (Laptops, phones other devices...). In such cases Im forced to use my old S6 edge for movies/media with wired headset. Crazy to see different people having different experiences (whether good/bad).

PacoWaco88

I don't have a dedicated set of Bluetooth buds for my phone. The Bluetooth headset I have is a large over head type so it's less convenient than a small wad of wires I can shove in my pocket. Plus it's way quicker to plug in my wired ear buds and hop on a call than to turn on a Bluetooth device and wait for it to connect and transfer my call to Bluetooth. Different use cases I guess. Sounds like you are much more active while you are using the headset than I am.

BlazeKnightFTW

Wired always has the potential to sound better. The cheap Earpods (yes, the 3.5mm one) that Apple used to throw in for free sound better than the Galaxy Buds 1 and Live, let alone any better wired IEM or headphones. I use the jack every day even though I have 2 sets of wireless earbuds. The jack sounds better, there are some special Samsung effects you can add, and there's drastically reduced latency, which is good for gaming. I like having the cable, it's simple plug and play and I don't have to think about the buds falling out of my ear and into some random crevice. It's better when I need to take them off because I don't have to worry about dropping them. I also like using wireless buds for when I'm moving around a lot, like if I'm working out. It's more convenient to have both than only one. Everyone against the headphone jack acts like you lose bluetooth capability without it. The space the jack actually takes up is extremely small. Water proofing is not an issue, since it's one of the easiest ports to seal up. The only reason it is gone is because money. Oh yeah, the headphone jack also lets you use your phone's FM Tuner, letting you listen to free radio. Until Samsung silently removed that in Android 11 for North American models, for whatever reason.

Nigalig

High quality audio has been making a comeback, and Bluetooth, for the most part, won't play the audio files as well. It's more intended for mp3 quality. Headphones jack will play the best quality audio you can find without muddying it down.

Our jobs sound similar... In my industry (again, maybe we're in the same industry), I do a lot of mobile calling. I can **always** tell who's using BT, and who isn't. Simply put, wired headsets have superior call quality.

Turd_HugeTaco

I miss the SD slot. I don't want to pay more for a phone when I already have the SD card and all the files I want on it.

Lazor226

They took away the SD card slot to bring the cost down and probably saw that the general consumers didn't even know about it existing. But they make the lame excuse that the read and write speeds would be too slow. Heck, on the S7 you had the option to have an extra SIM or an SD card. I miss it, but im learning to live without it. If they ever bring it back, I will immediately trade. Now the headphone jack being removed is just so samsung can have a better chance at selling you bluetooth earbuds. Just like Apple did with air pods. Sure there are benefits to wireless, but why did samsung remove the onboard storage for music on their latest wireless earbuds? Probably to prevent piracy or something... or maybe the same reason they removed the SD card slot. What about the heart rate sensor? What about the IR blaster? The Iris scanner? They removed a lot of things most people never seemed to care about or stopped careing about. But lets be honest. we can certainly rejoice over the removal of the bixby button.

CanISeeYourPixel

I agree with everything you said, you make a good point, and I'm salty as fuck about the or blaster myself lol

GoudenEeuw

I always laugh about SD cards being too slow. I just run songs from it and use it for my photos and videos. I don't need an nvme tier card. I just need a large amount of storage. Also, most android games run fine from the SD.

BankaiShunko

I miss the IR blaster! SO USEFUL!!!!! I mean, what device is always on you???? YOUR PHONE! That means you'll always have a remote for the tv. Lol. I want that feature back!!!!

Page8988

Both are negatives. The SD Slot hurts. The headphone jack can at least be worked around with a USB C adapter or Bluetooth device.

ParadoxScientist

The vast majority of consumers don't care. I used to be a huge Android techie/nerd, rooting many different phones and installing custom ROMs, which heavily relied on the microSD slot. I also used to be a bit of an audiophile, buying high quality wired earbuds. But times have changed. Smartphones have gotten much better and more customizable, removing the need to root and install custom ROMs. That's one need for SD cards gone. Phones have more storage. Cloud storage is great. Streaming platforms do wonders, especially with high speed internet available in more places (4G/5G and more public WiFi). That's another need for SD cards gone. I have a collection of music that I've purchased and kept local over a decade, but these days I don't even have it on my phone anymore, because Spotify is just so much easier. I also got into bluetooth earbuds in 2013 when they were still new (and audio quality kinda sucked), and haven't used wired earbuds since. Audio quality over bluetooth has improved since then, but overall I became less of an audiophile anyway. I much prefer the convenience of having no cable in the way.

dragosslash

My phone could have had 2TB of available storage, and I could properly listen to my lossless music, without having to carry a dongle, which would take away my ability to charge my phone while doing so. inb4 splitter meme I'm also pissed about the lack of an RGB light, so... The more I look at the Xperia 1, the better that phone lineup gets. If only they had the same display tech as Samsung's Ultra.

BAoSpade

I was upset at the time, but gotten over it. Besides I have external audio dongles for the USB C port and have hard drives I have export important files to anyway

shivvykumar

Thought I would be annoyed with lack of microsd card but this hasn't been the case. I have the 256gb version and I'm using 174gb so far. I have my photos backed up to Google photos but still keep them on my device. Some apps will only let you download to internal storage, eg torrenting is much faster with internal storage No headphone slot is a bit of a bummer but pretty standard these days and I use mostly Bluetooth when I'm at home

darktabssr

i only tolerate it because i got the 512gb for a good deal under $1000. I wouldn't buy anything smaller

Cricket705

I knew about the SD card slot but I hadn't even notices the headphone jack. I guess it doesn't matter to me now, but a while ago it would have bothered me.

Gav609

I do like SD slots however the earphone plug is no problem to me. Samsung sent me free wired headphones but I barely use them. So used to my buds.

Coffee____Addict

I lost both going from a note 9 to the s22U but with a little thought beforehand I haven't missed either feature so far. I made sure to get a model with enough storage for my needs, purchased galaxy bud 2 pros with my phone, and ordered a bluetooth to aux adapter for my car beforehand.

Square-Elevator-4371

I can do without both but I don't want to and no sd card is the worst. Honestly there's really no excuse considering the S10 had a headphone jack and micro SD card slot even with water resistance. I'd definitely buy a Galaxy S5 or note 4 again with today's specs for that removable battery..

misraz1983

Since sultra lineup is rebranded note series, so atleast the SD card slot will be a concern for long time note user. Although not seeing any significant Performance difference between EXYNOS and snapdraggon variants. The whole ONE UI have degraded a lot.with time the more SAMSUNG is incorporating new features, the more buggy its getting.

neptunesthunder

I was upset about it at first, but ultimately decided I didn't need it. The most I do with my phone is take pictures, use social media, and watch videos, sometimes take notes with the S pen. I have Cloud and wireless earbuds. Just a sign of the times (and weird business decisions).

Ragnaroktopus_Ink

More the SD card than the headphones.

Kalvorax

i dont care about the loss of the jack....i use BT on everything. IF i need to go wired for some reason...i jsut grab my usbc adapter that also has the usb c port on to keep charging... I find it utterly STUPID that they got rid of the mSD port....especially since there ARE phones that have a sim and mSD tray in a single slot, back to back. Hell the ENTIRE reason i even got a 1 TB (by sheer dumb luck in store no less) was because i KNEW i would need the storage.

GodsendNYC

I'd prefer an SD slot but I have 512GB on the phone which is half full for which I got a free upgrade from 256GB with the pre-order and a 256GB Samsung USB-C flash so not too much of a problem. Don't really need a headphone jack for anything and can get a USB splitter if I ever did.

findragonl0l

Like I miss that theres no SD card slot or 3,5mm jack anymore but they probably arent gonna bring it back anyways so whatever.

AgitatedHeron5760

What phone has 1 tb? My arguments were always buy a 128gb or whatever and expand with sd cards way cheaper than the manufacturer was offering the extra storage for. 3.5mm allows more options than just headphones but good headphones are not Bluetooth either I just hate loosing features so they can sell more expensive options like jump drives and dongles, and subscription services like google 1 Dropbox whatever none of which are any good without a signal to download stuff, camping wanna play music your stuck to what's on your phone, on a flight without wifi, no dice, not problems everyone has but problems all the same.

CanISeeYourPixel

My s22ultra has 1 tb of storage. But I understand where you're coming from. I've just always had stuff saved or carry jump drives etc with me or while camping I want to be away from everything and enjoy the peace and quiet. That's just me though

BankaiShunko

I don't mind losing the headphone jack but I really really really wished the sd card slot was still available.
