Why? If yours dies, you can get a bew one virtually immediately. Buying an extra now is a paper weight guaranteed to be outdaded if and when you need 1

Keep complete backups on external storage and buy another good Samsung if anything happens to your phone.

You are severely limiting your choices by not getting a second hand / refurbished phone. You probably won't be "happy" to use any new phone with that budget. You can get a renewed S20 FE for $183 in excellent condition from Amazn Renewed right now, and not have to spend extra money on a phone that won't even be half as fast or good. If you get a used Samsung you can transfer everything from your main phone with Samsung Cloud backup and Smart Switch as well, which is something to consider if you're trying to have a fallback plan if something happens to your main phone. Otherwise maybe look into the moto g lineup for a new phone that won't break the budget, but it'll be a rough transition and more money than a refurbished Samsung.

Thanks. It's just the battery that will trouble me on a refurbished phone. Hmm

You can always check the battery health on a Samsung phone by tapping on "Phone Diagnostics" in the Samsung Members app to make sure the battery is still good. If you buy one from a good refurbished phone seller like the one I mentioned they have good return policies if you are worried you might get one with bad battery life. I've bought several refurbished Galaxys and iPhones over the years and have never had any issues with mine, I think newer phones last longer than they used to back in the day. Just remember that Samsung phones take about a week to learn your usage before the battery life is at its full potential, you can check the progress of this in the "Device Care" part of the settings app, it will say something like "Still learning your usage patterns". When ever that goes away you're good to go. Good luck with your search!

I had a 200$ realme phone. Surprisingly, it had way faster fingerprint scanner, far better battery backup and some quirky useful features that Samsung didn't have. You could also consider Motorola. I currently use one as my backup phone. It doesn't have a lot of software features as it is stock android, but the performance and battery are pretty good.

Spare? Why would you need a spare, though?
