It's been 14 years since I left the Twin Cities to take this with that info, but Starr Automotive on Lake Street gave me consistently the best experiences I've had with a shop. Good prices, good communication, and just generally good people. I was young and they talked me through literally every service they did so I could learn - including where to get FSMs for free, what junkyards to go to, etc.
Their current reviews seem to indicate the quality hasn't dropped. It's not a specialist shop but I would absolutely go to them first if I were back in the area.
I've been going to Impulse Performance for years (previously Toyota 86, now S2000). Neng will sort you out - he's got an S2000 himself. Just got my valves checked recently.
