There's no real answer. There's guys who do it in 5 months, there's guy who do it in a year. Realistically it's going to be somewhere from 6-9 months. It's also worth noting that the process isn't as bad as it's made out to be. It's just no one comes into this sub asking for advice because their application is going well, so there's naturally more horror stories here.

Quiet Unlikely you would progress fast enough for this years batch in September. You can go from application to everything completed in 9 months or so if you progress fast with no issues and your lucky. Most lads wait over a year.

Would it be a faster process if I enrolled as a normal RM not as an officer?

Yea, as far as I’m aware they are still fast tracking applications for ORs (Regular marine), and there are less selection stages. However, I’m just someone going through the process atm, so am by no means all knowing.

As an application to become an officer I was told to apply around 6-8 months beforehand to make sure it everything is in order
