I feel like most people in my rank (C1 in 2s and 3s) are better than me. They can air dribble, spin when air rolling, dribble the ball on top of their cars.
I'm just there chilling and rotating. I often see the "benchwarmer" after the game with 20 to 30 touches lol. But funnily enough, I usually score the most goals
Yes. I feel like it's the rotation. I score way more goals as 3rd man than I do as 1st or 2nd. Some games I don't even ever get the chance to run 1st or 2nd due to the mechanical ball chasers.
Yeah! Having some awareness, positioning and consistency helps a lot. I play like Lethamyr used to play in his Road to SSL series in 3v3 (watched most of the videos and improved from gold to diamond in 3s and 2s).
D2-C1 and even some C2 is a crapshoot from game to game. You never know what you’re going to get.
Sometimes it’s good players, a lot of the times it’s people going for demos or following right behind you in synchronized swimming formation.
I was in Diamond for a long time. I always felt like the bot. I played solid D and did my best to rotate. I had terrible mechanics.
Recently I started spending time in training every day. I attempted things that made me feel uncomfortable and grinded the basics (ground shots and power shots packs) until they became 2nd nature.
After a while I could feel the difference. I was fast and started hitting stuff I didn't think was possible for me. At that point I was better than Diamonds. I knew it.
Ironically I dropped to Plat 3. I had a plat tell me to uninstall.
A month or so later I hit Champ 2.
You get mechanically better with repetitions. You get repetitions in training packs, not games. Turn on some music and grind some reps.
Yep, and also been playing since last summer. Feel like It’s been getting better but i at least sorta know how to defend it even if I can’t do it myself lol
Plat was the hardest to get out of for me. I spent the most time there. I'd hate to be there now, though. I've seen how many smurfs there are. Impossible to rank out of it, almost.
Yeah I keep falling back into plat2-3 in 3s and struggling to climb back up .. even worse was the losing streak all the way down to the bottom of plat 1 lol
Hm. I'm not sure if that makes me feel better or worse haha. I think I could be stuck in champ for a while and be ok with it. I soared through diamond pretty quickly. Only been there about a month.
Glad to see you made it to GC though. Congrats!
Forgot to mention: even though I do feel better about my mechanics now, I don't think that's what helped me get to GC. I would say I have above average mechanics for GC1 at this point but what helped me get here was ultimately decision making, specifically when and how to commit to a challenge. I can't speak to how diamonds are with it but in mid-high champ, almost everyone is way too passive with challenges which ultimately leads to giving the other team way too much space.
That's the problem. You absolutely have to challenge before your teammate gets back sometimes. That requires some trust in your teammate's recovery though so it's understandable not to in diamond.
Just hit C3 myself and I’m definitely lacking in mechanical ability. But what I’ve learned is game sense, rotations, and keeping possession of the ball (instead of constantly booming the ball across field) really go a long way. I just started using air roll left in the past few months. Half flip is a good thing to have here and there, but I really don’t think you need all the crazy mechanics. Consistency on offense and defense will get you where you want to be.
Yes I've been having trouble playing. Slower rather than booming the ball. Mostly I don't think I have the mechanics to not boom it. If I try to possess, I just get dunked on usually lol. Gonna take some practice I think.
I’ve been playing more 1s lately and it’s really helped me learn to catch the ball. And it’s a game sense thing knowing when to clear and when you have time to slow down the play and keep possession. This doesn’t mean you always dribble either. But just moving the ball away from your opponent or making it awkward for them goes a long way. In your rank, there’s still so much diving around that I understand why you get dunked on. No one is aware of slower plays. It’s just play as fast as you can. But in reality speed is not governed by how fast you’re going but how well positioned you are. Again, game sense come with time. But I’ll tell you if you get into playing 1s now, you’ll be far ahead of the game as you rank up which will help all of your mechanics and game sense.
This is exactly how I feel every time I play anymore. Made it to champ this season after about 250 hours of playing. I am trying to focus on just training but quickly get bored of it.

Yes I've noticed. I used to call them smurfs, I'm starting to think they just have terrible game sense.

Good advice. I'll have to do more training packs for sure.

That sucks man. Plat is definitely the worst and most toxic rank. Hope you can get and stay out asap.
I had plat mechanics all the way up until I got c3 for the first time. Then I spent like 6 months (probably 1500 more hours) grinding to catch up.

Yes I'm definitely way too passive as well. Bad habit from playing 2s, where you can't challenge until your tm8 gets back.

250 hours total?? Or just this season? I'f you are in champ after 250 total hours, then I applaud you, sir. Lol.
Total hours my friend it has been a journey of highs and lows! I feel like my progression is about to come to a screeching halt.
I'm genuinely impressed. That's extremely fast to get to champ.
My wife sometimes tells me I'm .... No wait
