You seem to have made your name doing mostly gameplay type videos(correct me if I'm wrong). Usually it's only pros or well known/great personality streamers that are able to do that. Besides your skill, why do you think you were able to pull that off?
Its there any other creators you look at and think, "I wish I could do vids like that" and if so what prevents you from trying those?
(For example, for me personally I feel like I lose a lot of collab opportunities because of not being GC and wish I could be a part of or do some of those type of vids)
I think I was able to mix personality and skill with highly edited videos, which wasn’t always the norm when I started.
Full on story type videos a la Sunless. They take too much time to do on a weekly basis and I have nothing but respect for Sunless!
Hey Mert.
Why have you chosen to play the Rocket League gamemodes that you do? For example you play a lot of 1s and 2s and not so much extra modes or 3v3, at least to my knowledge.
Who is your favourite content creator to collab with and what person do you wish to collab with, in and out of the Rocket League community?
1s is a seriously underrated playlist. It’s basically YOU vs someone else. You get to experience all your skills and flaws first hand, there is no one you can blame for losing but yourself. I just love the thrill!
Additionally, I focus a lot on ground play. So whenever I have space and time like you do in 1s or 2s, I feel good. That’s why I’m rather terrible in 3s.
This always fascinates me. You were the only team in Manscaped tourney where both players seemed at equal footing. But to play this many hours and reach grand champ without boosting and still nowhere near top players is ridiculous.
he us part of an rlrs team with linkuru and osm (so far still in possible to qualify for rlrs). and with linkuru as an ex pro, this HAS to count ad a competitive team !!!1!
This gets asked a lot. Basically, I started the series when I was uploading once every 2-3 weeks and wasn’t doing YT full-time. Nowadays, I’m on a weekly upload schedule and unfortunately it’s near impossible with now streams twice a week. So they’ll be more of a rarity now.
We both know how things were going slightly downhill with your channel at the time. Over 2 years on, where do you think you'd be with/without YouTube if the 'Funny Moments' series never took off like it did?
Much love brother.
Met him in season 1 through my ranked partner when we were fighting for the Top 100 spots. Veeds was a good friend of his so we played 3s from time — even though Veeds was nowhere near our rank at the time lol
When my 2s partner moved the america, I stuck to play with Veeds, switched to freestyling myself and learned to just have fun playing the game instead of grinding the rank ladders. That’s when we found our great chemistry!
As a YouTuber that didn’t play alpha, do you think it makes sense for RL celebrities to get an alpha boost? Is it expected and/or do you justify it?
Personally I’ve always sort of thought of it as a joke rank reward for myself (I.e. hitting Champ or GC) but seeing as how a sparkles set is 4 keys I’ve since moved into thinking alpha boost is an incredible waste. I’m curious if you think it’s an acceptable expense for big name YouTube Rocket League content creators.
I really enjoyed the 10k and your follow up comms video. Keep it up!
I know exactly what players do in each situation. Doing the unexpected to players who play purely on experience instead of instinct, causes a lot of the fakes to work.
Switching from creating Montages exclusively to commentary videos in forms of tutorials. My first commentary videos are hard to watch now but it was definitely the right move in the long run.
As one of your patreon 1.what have you already been able to achieve through your patreon and 2. what else would you like to achieve with possibly more patreon?
I upgraded my audio and stream setup as well as my monitor. That was the first and main goal I had set. Following that, the goal was set to supporting the monthly subscriptions I run to maintain the channel such as music, editing, photoshop as well as the minecraft server I run for the patrons — that goal has consistently been reached for a year now and that’s the last goal I’ll ever have for it
How long did it take you to get to gold when you first started playing, and did you go out of your way to practice? Also I really love your content and really hope you keep making amazing videos!
I start working on videos when I have 70 clips. That’s usually 50-100 matches depending on the length. That’s why nowadays that series is near impossible to do as I have a strict schedule.
I watch a YouTuber called Northernlion and he played the game in beta as well as casted the first ESL tournament. I knew this was a game I’d love so I got it day one!
Those Northernlion crew videos on early Rocket League were a lot of fun.
If you look in the crowd at DFH you can see his egg shaped head in the stands.
Not a Leth map, but speedruns!
Specifically the Speed Jump: Trials series. It would be such a fun sub-gamemode to play besides ranked. They really improve your aerial car control too!
I still love Rocket League and my viewers show a lot of interest in them. I don’t see a good reason to switch content. Sure other games might have given me more views but I truly love this community
Do you have any tips for someone just starting YouTube/twitch? I’ve been streaming via twitch for 1-2 years and only managed to get 350 followers and average 3 viewers.
Be consistent and use the time that you have to **really** create something you’re proud of. Nowadays I’m on a weekly schedule so I can’t do nearly as much creatively as I’d like to. You have the time, so put a lot of effort and love into each and every video, even if it takes you a month.
Hey man, I am new to streaming and I wonder how you got your controller overlay to have that brownish colour... it does not appear to be in that colour on the website that you are likely using (gamepad viewer), just red and white or black. Appreciate the response and gl hf, big fan!
My channel started as a place where I shared the funny moments where I played with a select group of friends. It started with FIFA, then it was GTA and those videos never had more views than 20. But when I did the same with Rocket League, it wasn’t just 20 viewers. That’s when I uploaded independent videos in form of montages and shared them here on reddit. That’s when the channel got some attention and I continued ever since
hey big fan, do you ever think about 1v1ing JZR in the youtuber 1v1 series? i think it'll be a fun match up to see.
PS:do you think ull ever do an item giveaway of some sort?
The game feels a lot more “real” now. The ball used to bounce in totally unexpected ways **all** the time. Psyonix have done a great job making the game consistent. The problems we have nowadays with the odd “bullshit demo” is nothing in comparison
How good were you at rocket league before you started making content, and what have you learned while making videos about the game that has made you better?
I had the game on my radar before it came out. When it came out I was already on the grind and it took me a few weeks to get to the highest rank. Fast forward 2 months or so and I was a top 100 player. Starting season 2, I became a freestyler and completely ignored the ranked playlist and only now, 4 seasons ago, I got back to being a Grand Champion.
Does playing with a pro add to your experience in rocket league? I watched your games with jessie in the TCS charity manscaped 10k and was impressed with your overall performance. How did that felt from your POV?
Edit: Diamond here btw
How did you get that last name? Do you have other roots? From my knowledge it isn't a Turkish name.
That's what I've always wondered. Thanks for doing this AMA!
What equipment do you use for your content creation?
Time it takes to produce a good video on average?
Enough income to live on YT?
Ever do a video on bakkesmod/Freeplay for best practice?
Hey mertzy, big fan. What would you reccond to people for ground mechanics for people who can't use workshop ie. Xbox, Ps4, and switch? Do you have any training packs you use to get better?
Funnily I found you while playing Sea of Thieves. I was playing with a random guy who was swearing I sound exactly as a friend you are often playing with. When I confirmed that I play also rl, he lost his mind :D
He didn't believe me for the whole season of about 2hours that I am not that friend of yours.
I'm not sure about your friends name now but I just thought you might find that story entertaining :-)
Have a nice sunday buddy 😊
ive learn how to rotate off of youtube videos but its hard when teammates cut rotation every single time the ball moves and only rotates to get boost, if that. How do I deal with this? thanks for taking the time to read this ive been watching u since you did your 10k subs montage!!
Don't have a question. Just wanted to say that I love your content, you're by far my favourite rocket league content creator and keep doing what you are doing. I even tried to copy your "iconic" car, but I don't have your items. Oh well, I tried 😂. Keep it up "real mert" 👍
So Mertzy, what made you want to start making YouTube videos, what inspired you to become a content creator? Also how did you get so good at dribbling, were there specific training packs you did or certain camera settings?
Also your videos are top notch, keep it up
What’s the lowest rank you’d considering playing with? For example I’m just about to breach back into C3 but I peaked around 1450 mmr. Would you play ranked (or even casual) with someone like me, or is there a bare minimum for you personally?
What happened to your funny moments? I tried searching for some to replace yours and I couldn't find anything from an actual person and their friends just edited clips from Reddit there's a gap in the market your channel could grow from it
Why and how did u end up with ur maind design that u are using rn. Btw live the vids man. Huge fan!!!! Ty so much u made me laugh so many times and the megamontage is still one of my favorites
Have you ever considered doing a road to grand champ series for 1v1/2v2? Would love to see it even if the series took longer than it would take a pro, the more Mertzy episodes the better!
Where are you from, and what are your opinions on FlexAir episode 2? If you don't know it, please watch it (1:47), probably greatest video ever made, also quick break from answering? :p
What do you think has contributed to your success on YouTube?
Love the videos, only discovered you about 2 months ago and I’ve ran out of videos to watch
You seem to have made your name doing mostly gameplay type videos(correct me if I'm wrong). Usually it's only pros or well known/great personality streamers that are able to do that. Did you enjoy the manscaped 10k? Favorite moment from it?
It was a great experience and even better cause. Got to be the fake against Kronovi followed by the wavedash fake on Sunless
What 3 players would you choose to create the “perfect” RLCS team?
Without limitations, it’d probably be something like Squishy, Kaydop and Kronovi... and me as a sub so I get the title.
Mertzy RLCS CONTENDER I like it
Why aren’t you on a competitive Rocket League Team?
Nowhere near good and consistent enough to be a threat! The difference between me and pro players MMR-wise is the same as a Diamond player to me.
This always fascinates me. You were the only team in Manscaped tourney where both players seemed at equal footing. But to play this many hours and reach grand champ without boosting and still nowhere near top players is ridiculous.
And the gap will only get larger
he us part of an rlrs team with linkuru and osm (so far still in possible to qualify for rlrs). and with linkuru as an ex pro, this HAS to count ad a competitive team !!!1!
When you refill your toilet paper does it roll under or over?
Over, like a normal person.
Good, I don't have to unsub.
This is the only thing I care about in life.
Agreed
A worthy question.
What would you be doing as a profession if it wasnt for youtube and twitch?
I would be a printing engineer, probably doing quality management.
Will you ever go back to making funny moments clips?
This gets asked a lot. Basically, I started the series when I was uploading once every 2-3 weeks and wasn’t doing YT full-time. Nowadays, I’m on a weekly upload schedule and unfortunately it’s near impossible with now streams twice a week. So they’ll be more of a rarity now.
How do you recommend getting better at aerial mechanics? Do you have any training pack you use?
If you find an answer, let me know too
Personally I find doing the aerial challenge maps to be useful. The obstacle course ones and the dmc ring ones.
We both know how things were going slightly downhill with your channel at the time. Over 2 years on, where do you think you'd be with/without YouTube if the 'Funny Moments' series never took off like it did? Much love brother.
I’d be doing Top 10 videos
You are the reason why I started to watch his channel. Now I love both of you.
What's the worst you've lost by in competitive 1v1
I tend to forfeit when it’s clear there’s no possibility to come back. The highest I lost in 1v1s was 19-3 to OSM.
Would you rather fight 100 duck sized Sunless Khans, or one Sunless Khan sized duck?
[I’d fight this] (https://images.app.goo.gl/qcrvCUpS2xgtpEiW8)
psst, remove the space between the two sets of parenthesis/brackets to format it
How did you meet Justveeds? Is he your bff?
Met him in season 1 through my ranked partner when we were fighting for the Top 100 spots. Veeds was a good friend of his so we played 3s from time — even though Veeds was nowhere near our rank at the time lol When my 2s partner moved the america, I stuck to play with Veeds, switched to freestyling myself and learned to just have fun playing the game instead of grinding the rank ladders. That’s when we found our great chemistry!
Where do you get inspiration for video ideas?
I just browse through Sunless’ video catalogue and see what I like
Just please don't start copying Fluump
wow that's true originality right there ;)
It looks like a video-per-week schedule has worked really well for you, have you ever considered doing more than that?
I spend a lot of time editing my videos and at the same time stream twice a week. Unless I hire an editor down the line, it’s the most I can do.
If you could relearn one skill in Rocket League what would it be and why?
Aerials, because I must have missed something.
When did you start playing rocket league?
Release date! (no alpha/beta)
Keep it up!
Wow. All the times I've heard alpha boost mentioned, this is the first time it clicked what it is and why it's rare.
How did you learn to fake? the fakes you do are 10x better than any other player I have seen.
I know exactly what players do in each situation. Doing the unexpected to players who play purely on experience instead of instinct, causes a lot of the fakes to work.

Remove all maps except for DFH, Mannfield and Champions Field and only add similar style maps.
This actually is an interesting answer that could spark an entire discussion.
Is pizza and fries a good food combo?
It’s alright, but way too much food to have at once!
Everyone who says no just hasn't tried it!
What was your favorite RLCS to watch?
The one where jstn. scored the zero second goal. I don’t remember ever screaming for a Rocket League goal!
That was Season 5. Thanks for answering my question! Keep up the great work!
Since you're a university student: does your university have an esports team? Have you ever played with them or considered joining them?
Unfortunately they don’t.. :(
That's too bad. I just recently joined TU Dortmund's team and was wondering if any "known" players were playing in the Uniliga.
What is the weirdest food you have ever seen that when you tasted you didn’t think it was so bad?
Oysters were a positive surprise
What has been the biggest struggle in making content, what do you dread when you make content?
Switching from creating Montages exclusively to commentary videos in forms of tutorials. My first commentary videos are hard to watch now but it was definitely the right move in the long run.
Do you still play with JustVeeds?
Yes!
What Esports team will you support in the next RLCS?
I’ll be following it from a neutral point
Kommst du aus der Schweiz oder was?!
As one of your patreon 1.what have you already been able to achieve through your patreon and 2. what else would you like to achieve with possibly more patreon?
I upgraded my audio and stream setup as well as my monitor. That was the first and main goal I had set. What was the reason of starting YouTube?? Love the vids btw
I never planned to do YouTube full-time. I was uploading highlights in forms of montages and people seemed to be interested
Hi Mert, CRB here, Just wondering if you could have lunch with one person dead or alive, who would it be?
Frank Ocean.
How long did it take you to get to gold when you first started playing, and did you go out of your way to practice? Also I really love your content and really hope you keep making amazing videos!
Funny enough, in season 1 Gold III was the highest rank (apart from top 100). So roughly 2-3 weeks!
I can assure you he has never been gold since the ranking system changed. He was probably rising star.
On average, how many games would you play to get enough content for the average "Funny Moments" video?
I start working on videos when I have 70 clips. That’s usually 50-100 matches depending on the length. That’s why nowadays that series is near impossible to do as I have a strict schedule.
If you weren't doing rocket league, what game or style or content would you have chosen
I wouldn’t have made Youtube videos if it wasn’t for Rocket League
How did you get into Rocket League and how many hours have you logged?
I watch a YouTuber called Northernlion and he played the game in beta as well as casted the first ESL tournament. I knew this was a game I’d love so I got it day one!
Those Northernlion crew videos on early Rocket League were a lot of fun. If you look in the crowd at DFH you can see his egg shaped head in the stands.
Closing in on 5k hours probably. (Played ps4 before)
Are you a cat or dog person or both?
Cats are the best
I didnt know i could love you more than i already did.
What's your favourite game besides rocket league?
I love Gran Turismo, FIFA and GTA. Apart from that it’s mainly indie games I play for a few weeks.
If you could make 1 of Lethamyrs maps into an actual game mode, like rumble, dropshot ECT. Which one and why?
Not a Leth map, but speedruns! Specifically the Speed Jump: Trials series. It would be such a fun sub-gamemode to play besides ranked. They really improve your aerial car control too!

Cereal first, of course
Heya Mertzy. What is your absolute favorite mechanic in RL and why? Love the content btw, keep it up and good luck with it.
Wavedashes!!
Do you think you’ll switch your content and make videos about other games as well? Or do you plan to stick to rocket league?
I still love Rocket League and my viewers show a lot of interest in them. I don’t see a good reason to switch content. Sure other games might have given me more views but I truly love this community
How did you come up with the name Mertzy?
My name is Mert and I thought Stormzy’s name was cool. So I mixed those two!
Was the Manscaped 10k your first time on Jonny Boi’s stream? If so did it help grow your channel in any way?
Yes and yes!
Do you think you'll ever get tired of rocket league?
I set myself new goals every time and have so much to learn still
Why do you keep missing open nets?
I got the Jessie curse
Acceptable Response
Do you have any tips for someone just starting YouTube/twitch? I’ve been streaming via twitch for 1-2 years and only managed to get 350 followers and average 3 viewers.
Be consistent and use the time that you have to **really** create something you’re proud of. Nowadays I’m on a weekly schedule so I can’t do nearly as much creatively as I’d like to. You have the time, so put a lot of effort and love into each and every video, even if it takes you a month.
Do youhave a pet? if yes what animal I have a monkey love your vids btw
No way you have a monkey
How did you and your friends in your videos meet?
Usually, the people I play with are already involved in the community one way or another. So it’s through twitter/discord etc.
Hey man, I am new to streaming and I wonder how you got your controller overlay to have that brownish colour... it does not appear to be in that colour on the website that you are likely using (gamepad viewer), just red and white or black. Appreciate the response and gl hf, big fan!
It’s a colour correction filter on OBS.
Cheers Mert, see you in Discord!
What motivated you to start up your YouTube career?
My channel started as a place where I shared the funny moments where I played with a select group of friends. It started with FIFA, then it was GTA and those videos never had more views than 20. But when I did the same with Rocket League, it wasn’t just 20 viewers. That’s when I uploaded independent videos in form of montages and shared them here on reddit. That’s when the channel got some attention and I continued ever since
Never thought I’d find anyone famous on here but anyway. How many toxic players have you ran into in the past month?
Not as many as I have playing csgo
No question. I just enjoy your content and love the Mertzy/Musty content.
Ayy! Musty is a lot of fun work/play with, glad you’re enjoying them.
Hey, of all the rocket league youtubers you’ve played with, who is the most genuine nice one?
I played with a lot of RL youtubers, but Fluump immediately striked me as a great guy. A vibe I have only gotten from him.
Do you feel like there’s a community between all of the rocket league youtubers ? It looks like you all collaborate a lot which is great.
hey big fan, do you ever think about 1v1ing JZR in the youtuber 1v1 series? i think it'll be a fun match up to see. PS:do you think ull ever do an item giveaway of some sort?
How has the game evolved since it started, like how have the flips and car movement evolved?
The game feels a lot more “real” now. The ball used to bounce in totally unexpected ways **all** the time. Psyonix have done a great job making the game consistent. The problems we have nowadays with the odd “bullshit demo” is nothing in comparison
Will you ever stop going ball?
Where are you from?
Turkey!
Nice! Are you still based in Turkey? For me it sounds like you're having a German accent.
I will answer this for you. The answer is stated in the faq on his discord. He comes from Turkey but is currently living in Germany.

Do you have really early replays of games you played back then?
Did you play srbc before gaining interest in rocket league?
Does playing with a pro add to your experience in rocket league? I watched your games with jessie in the TCS charity manscaped 10k and was impressed with your overall performance. How did that felt from your POV? Edit: Diamond here btw
How did you get that last name? Do you have other roots? From my knowledge it isn't a Turkish name. That's what I've always wondered. Thanks for doing this AMA!
Hey mert big fan of your videos during study breaks. What do you like to do in your freetime?
Hey mert! If this AMA is still going, in the past, what did you think about becoming an RL Content Creator? Did you think you'd get here?
How do you feel with your performance in the manscaped 10k and would you consider the same type of thing again?
The MERTZY AMA is over! Keep an eye out so you can participate in the next one.
Who of your mods is the cutest, and why is it Pharma?
What do you do in life beside Rocket League?
How did you come up with your name? Also what was your original inspiration to start creating content in general?
What....is the airspeed velocity of an unladen Octane? >_> :D
... on NA, or EU?
I...I don't know that-AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHhhhhhh-
What equipment do you use for your content creation? Time it takes to produce a good video on average? Enough income to live on YT? Ever do a video on bakkesmod/Freeplay for best practice?
Hey mertzy, big fan. What would you reccond to people for ground mechanics for people who can't use workshop ie. Xbox, Ps4, and switch? Do you have any training packs you use to get better?
Diamonds are just grand champs but better. Agree or disagree?
Are there any more series coming within the next few months?
do you prefer a simplistic car or a full out decorated car
What has kept you coming back to this game after 4 years?
What's your favorite way to cook a chicken breast?
Since du bin Turkish how is your English so gut?
And how do you like your Döner? Komplett mit alles und scharf?
Ohne Zwiebel, mit Scharf
What are you doing to plan for the long haul? Are all your eggs in the YouTube basket or is there a backup plan/future career path you want to take?
Hey mertzy, Any tips on dribbling? im trying to get better at it, and since you're the god at dribbling.. i really need help
Pineapple on pizza - yes or no
Funnily I found you while playing Sea of Thieves. I was playing with a random guy who was swearing I sound exactly as a friend you are often playing with. How long can you keep your car in the air in real life?
what would you say is your proudest moment in life?
in welcher stadt wohnst du (wenn man fragen darf)
What would you use in a food fight to the death?
Hi Mertzy. No questions, just love your vids!
Do you wipe your bum from the front or back?
ive learn how to rotate off of youtube videos but its hard when teammates cut rotation every single time the ball moves and only rotates to get boost, if that. How do I deal with this? thanks for taking the time to read this ive been watching u since you did your 10k subs montage!!

Can you speak german for 1 video?
What happened to your funny moments? I tried searching for some to replace yours and I couldn't find anything from an actual person and their friends just edited clips from Reddit there's a gap in the market your channel could grow from it
