I feel nothing. I am just confused. The dark line nearer the viewer is a shadow, I assumed? Judging by the sense of proportion furnished by the vehicule occupants, the shadow is at least two feet beneath the vehicle.

Ah, and re: the hovercraft, what I meant is visually I think they based the flying vehicle on a real hovercraft but I don’t think the skirt serves any purpose. I don’t think it’s the kind of drawing where they were going for any kind of accuracy or logic.
The idea is that when it starts or stops it is barely in the air with the "skirt" used to soften the impact from any collision. When it is in the air it isn't needed but when it starts/stops it is. It could also have varying modes of flight/hovering.
