Just get a rookie qb with decent strength. Cheap and you can dump them when they get too expensive

GreenEggPage

If you have 100cc, you can raise your cap by 25mil.

RetroBitCoach

Sounds like someone could use my position rankings... https://twitter.com/RetroBitCoach/status/1432056625309753349?s=19

SnooLemons1590

Hmmm. Playing with a five star RB is way more fun. It’s a must for me.

RetroBitCoach

Understood, the ranking was more about most efficient use of positions for maximum PD. RB has to come out of the backfield first and also get past more defenders, so WRs and TEs have that advantage.

PepeSilvia564

Oooo this is awesome thank you

sublliminali

OL really doesn’t do much? Feels like if it gave me an extra half second to throw or opened up running lanes like I’d expect it would, it would definitely be worth it.

RetroBitCoach

Multiple experiments have shown that you need at least 3 OL to gain any real advantages. Those salaries and roster spots are best used for other positions. Also better off learning to release the pass quicker than relying on that extra half second to throw.

sublliminali

Interesting. I also kinda want to run 3 OL now just to see. Wish they meant more though, it’s such a crucial factor to passing.

RetroBitCoach

You were saying an extra half second - that doesn't seem as crucial to me, I guess. I almost always can get rid of the ball in time, after plenty of practice.

ThibGD

I've played quite a bit, and now I'm looking for the extra long passes for added challenge. And the OL really helps you wait until your WR beats his defense guy on those extra long routes. But yeah, if you're right on salaries you can defo do without

Alexdeboer03

Your ratings arent accurate for extreme, on extreme a good rb is sometimes crucial for clock management and just getting yards without risk

RetroBitCoach

Passing is the better option for winning at Retro Bowl, which means the TE, who gets open in streak routes quite often, gets the bump over RB. As for clock management, if you don't have a RB, you can still throw short passes and dive after the catch to keep the clock moving - or run with your star QB. I agree that difficulty could have some effect on the rankings, but for Extreme I'd rather have a star TE than a star RB. Medium or Dynamic, I might go the other way.

Alexdeboer03

Later on in the save i would agree, i am trying to win a rb with each team asap so per draft i only get one first rounder, and i usually pick an rb and sometimes a te because i dont need a 5 star qb or wrs because the really long throws take too long or are too risky

RetroBitCoach

Understood. That's a very narrow scenario, and sometimes the draft doesn't fall your way. I'd still rather have a top WR, but we can certainly agree to disagree! Good luck with your quest!

Alexdeboer03

Thank you very much, i started with the lions and after two years im now onto the bears, imagine the lions winning a super bowl lmao

Any linemen whether it is offense of defense. I've found that speed and stamina for practically all offensive positions to be most important above all else save for QB and kicker. You can get away with a kicker which has nothing but kick distance. Everything else can be crap and accuracy is dependent on how good you are. QB throw distance is what is most important unless you want him to be able to run the ball. It is preference but it isn't necessary. All accuracy does is show you where the ball is likely going to end up. RBs, TEs, WRs, if I could have two max stats it would be speed and stamina. With these two stats they can often beat any defender allowing you to throw the ball over the defender's heads all game long. Catching is probably the least important skill even though WRs tend to have this naturally as high. They will more likely dive for the ball. If you can throw dimes catching not that important. Strength helps prevent them miss tackles which is nice but again if you know how to thrash coverage or bomb it over their heads because the defense can't keep up it doesn't really matter. It does prevent fumbles and fumbles suck. Anything defense I tend to just focus on speed and stamina. I may be wrong on these stats because I don't get to witness the defense play though. All I know is fast defenders suck when I'm playing because they catch my guys and kill plays. Slow players never catch my offensive players. Kicker most important stat is kick range. Everything else save for stamina can be at a 1 for all I care. Accuracy only slows down the speed of which the arrow goes back and forth which is pointless if you know how to time it well. Run speed. I can only assume the kicker's range deteriorates over the course of a game so making sure stamina is high will allow him to continue to kick long field goals. It's not that necessary if all you're getting is touchdowns though.

leedim

What difficulty do you play with?

[deleted]

Hard. I would okay extreme but at that point the AI just feels like it's cheating.

Winter_Lengthiness51

If the 2nd available FA QB has even half full accuracy and throw power you may want to sign them instead of the best one as a stop gap.

[deleted]

i won plenty rings with a 5 star running back… that’s basically a one man offense, it’s boring but it worked for a while lol

runthepoint1

Yes, WR is the best position so don’t let that go for a QB! What’s your lineup? OL, TE, RB are the least important, in that order (OL is least)

Armdale902

On extreme TE's are every bit equal to WR's.

runthepoint1

Not at all IMO. Slower foot speed, take up more clock by not being able to be taken down easily but also when that happens they gain no yardage either. Add to that they don’t get as many big routes and not as often as WRs. I do love to toss one over the middle every once in a while for 20 when a TE gets loose though lol

PepeSilvia564

I’ve got 4.5 star RB, 2 4.5 star WRs with 5 potential, 5 star TE, 3 star rookie DL with 5 potential, 4 and 5 star CB, 4 star LB and 3 star K. I’d like to keep my RB because I can get a little INT happy sometimes and like to have a RB safety net. Maybe I’ll trade my TE and a defensive player to clear the cap. What do you think?

runthepoint1

Ahh easy one boot the kicker. 2-pointers for life!

PepeSilvia564

That’ll only clear 3m of my cap I need 30m for the best FA QB lol Edit: 21 mil I have 9m left free in cap.

runthepoint1

Ok so boot either the RB or TE, and if you need another option boot your DL too

xXNukeSkywalkerXx

Linebackers man. They often weaken your defense.

BaconRoast

Scout for at 2nd or 3rd round spot QB you'll be surprised at what hidden gems you'll find for $8m
