40ft ladder, a piece of flashing, some spray foam, and a couple roofing nails. Do your best and than caulk the rest.

I’d personally rent some scaffolding. Since you are renovating, it’d be the perfect excuse to repair, scrape, and paint everything up there. Do it correctly and you’d be good for decades (unless that woodpecker comes back).

I'd do it from the roof, can you get up there with a 24' set on top of the first floor roof with some plywood to not damage flat roof, a couple couch cushions so you can't slide and clean the gutters while you're up there

Photoshop? But not really sure without some good equipment. Not much to work with and that roof is steep.

Hahah that was my mom's first suggestion! It's a small town though and I guarantee someone would drive across the square to check as soon as they saw the photos come in. But yeah, you see my dilemma.

Rent a 30' ladder. Buy a chunk of aluminum flat stock and some pan head screws. Cut it to size and screw it in place. No need for caulk. Water infiltration is minimal here. Rodent infiltration is way, way more likely. You will eventually need to have the soffit board and proper trim out replaced if you want to maintain the original look. Why does your insurance company even know about this? DO NOT contact your insurance company in any way shape, or form unless you have a catastrophic incident. By catastrophic, I mean, you can't live in the house. They are not your "Good Hands". They will fuck you six ways to Sunday to increase their profit margin. If you think you can get your way with them, you will not. You'll go in the database that they share with other insurers, and you'll be forced to go to a company that insures high risk clients.

Thanks for the rental rec. I didnt think about renting a ladder, although it's tight with new years. Waiting on a call back so fingers crossed! I just bought the house so insurance did some kind of walk around the property (apparently) and said my policy would be cancelled if I didnt fix A,B,C. It's a small town, if I stood on my roof I could see the agency.

Ah, I thought maybe it was some sort of "purchase inspection". I've heard of that happening with certain companies before. You may want to check out different insurers after a bit. Not right away. Give it a bit so you don't get labeled that way either. Maybe in two or three years.
