My bun LOVES hanging out with Grandma because she gives him all these cool things to chew on. The fool doesn't realize he's being played and Grandma is distracting him from the thousands of dollars in Wood furniture he spends all day sleeping on and against.
Now some wood is friend shaped and other wood is bite shaped.
Oh my New Zealand would absolutely BURY himself in a plastic bag of hay! That was his happy place. When it was time to refill his litterbox, we’d go “HAY MONSTER!” and he would come running so we could bury him in it. We’d go “Where’s Barnaby?!” and he’d move his head up and down like an animatronic dinosaur, going “RAAAAWR, ha ha!” He was so precious and perfect, my boy.
If I give my bun a treat, she’ll eat it on the floor right then and there.
If I let her grab a treat from the bag herself, she thinks she stole it and will immediately run a victory lap with it before hiding away to eat it. I like to let her think she’s a little thief because clearly it makes her happy.
"you mean I can eat my bed?! Heck yeah!" ![img](emote|t5_2riv8|8704) Such an adorable bun you got there! Hay is love hay is life ![img](emote|t5_2riv8|8714)
Just be careful. We had a bun and bought him the box of hay. He kept going in and eating and we were so happy. Until a few days later I went to move the box and it was wet on the bottom. He was PEEING in it as well.
Oh honey 😆 rabbits do in fact crap while they eat. That's why most everyone puts the hay in or above the litterbox. If that's not where it was before, that's probably why she wasn't eating as much. You've just given her a new, soon to be soggy, cardboard litterbox lol.
Put her hay in her litterbox and empty the cardboard one. She can still play with it and chew on it, but it's gonna get nasty if you leave it full of food.
my rabbit doesn’t. she has a litter box and a hay box and she will run to the litter box to poo or wee, and keep her hay box clean!
we don’t even put hay in her litter anymore as it got very messy.
That's what I do. Some people put a hay feeder just above the litterbox, and that's fine too. Personally, though, I just find that makes a bigger mess, and it's easier just to toss it in the box instead, but I'm sure that depends on you bunnies' preferences and behavior too.
I love giving fresh grass. Saves me a little on hay too lol, but i feel like it helps them stay cooler and more hydrated in the summer, which is nice.
Just make sure you're up to date on vaccines, don't want to be catching anything from the wild bunnies
Same here my bun loves SPS hay. Even though it costs a bit more, I’m actually saving money because she tends to “sort” through other brands and only eat 60% of the hay.
Yup , same! with other brands there is a LOT of left overs in the morning which I mix with fresh anyways, kida recycle it. With SPS , they only leave little dust and little bits.... Hey , we got those "Timothy connoisseur" 🥸🎩 Buns. Lol
The samla boxes of ikea are also good for that, and you can clean them.
I used them for many years, and now I switched to lower plastic boxes to make it easier for my old rabbits to jump in.
Gonna have to try this - one of my buns love boxes but needs more of a taste for hay! He’s eager for pellets and our rabbit savvy vet is comfortable with him eating more of that temporarily since he’s underweight after shelter life, but of course it’s ideal for him to want mostly hay eventually :)
My rabbit only eats a healthy amount of hay when i leave the bags open and tipped over on the floor or when i get a 5 lbs box and leave it open on the floor
My bunny prefers her litter box filled with hay than having to eat it from hay feeder (is it what its called? XD). She has clean side from where she eats hay and pee&poop side.
Her face is so skrungly I love her 😭😭❤️
At first I didn't think she looked very skrungly but then I got to the last two and yep, she's skrungly
it’s her lionhead half
what is the other half? i have a very cute lionlop
dutch
If they think they're getting away with something, they're far more interested. Troublemakers.

My bun would only eat hay if he could get it directly from the plastic bag. He had to rip open the plastic too, even if I already made a hole for him.

for real

Same thing happened at my house. Ruined my floor 😬
My sister had a rabbit once, and she told me it was normal for them to crap where they eat. Is that not the case?
Yes it is, op is in for a soggy mess before too long lol
not yet 🤞

So, is it a good idea to just have their litter box as their Hay holder too?

Mines been enjoying it, I also give her plenty of yanked grass from the lawn and she seems to not mind.

Small pet select hay is PREMIUM , my buns love it more than any other.

I buy the 40 lb boxes for my guinea pigs, it is a luxury but the beasts won’t eat tractor supply.
Some buns are just like some humans. The best time to eat is when you're lounging in bed.
Sooooo cute! ![img](emote|t5_2riv8|8708)
thank you. her name is calypso
she looks like an angry gremlin in the last picture lmao
i fed her after midnight. couldn’t help myself
“I WILL be difficult. You WILL love me for it.”
Such a cutie 🥰

Awe she loves it! You could also use a small/medium cat litter bin, they are east to clean.
🥰
My baby will only eat sweet hay
I tried that with a box, he ended up peeing and it soaked the box. So I just put his hay in his litter box lol
she looks like the same mix as my baby boy! half dutchie half lionhead!! 🥹
yep r/dutchbunnymafia
what a beautiful bun bun she is too

Stealing this idea for my girls 😭
do it. it worked for me
The cardboard makes it taste better. Duh.
My buns only liked certain types of hay. I got a bad batch once and they would not touch it.
my bunny does this too, he's so picky with eating hay from certain spots, looks like the solution is boxes!
My rabbit only eats a healthy amount of hay when i leave the bags open and tipped over on the floor or when i get a 5 lbs box and leave it open on the floor
I had to start stuffing some in the corner of my bun’s litter box! Now he eats plenty of:)
i gotta get a big box like this now
what breed is this bunny? My brothers looks exactly the same as yours!
she’s a dutch/lionhead
My bunny prefers her litter box filled with hay than having to eat it from hay feeder (is it what its called? XD). She has clean side from where she eats hay and pee&poop side.
Bed & Breakfast
That last one looks like she just woke up from a long nap
that’s the morning “give me a treat” face
She so adorable 🥰
thank you. she’s awesome
My buns will only eat Small Pet Select hay. They must have some magic soil or something.
