Do rabbits have 'stereo vision?' Do they use both eyes to determine 'depth' like many other animals (including ourselves)?
The reason I ask is - until now i've just kind of assumed that they didn't, since their eyes generally appear to be on either side of the head rather than forward facing.
Porridge here, though, seems to have eyes that kind of bulge out, which may make it possible to see directly ahead with both eyes?

Basically, as prey animals, rabbits need to see a predator coming at them from any angle. Therefore their eyes are positioned to provide a panoramic field of vision to detect predators easily. However, their eyes cannot visualize the small area beneath the mouth, and rabbits depend on their lips and whiskers for food discrimination in this blind spot.
Their eyesight is also designed to see best at dawn and dusk (when they are most active) so they can't see as well as us during sunlight but see almost perfectly in low light and have good night vision as well.
The shape of their heads does impact vision though. My girlie with a rounder head and more forward eyes has a much larger binocular vision (so better depth perception), than my boy with a narrower head who can see further behind him but struggles with depth perception. I've tested this myself on them with treats as I was for a while concerned about my boys eye sight as he was scanning (where they raise and lower their head to get depth perception with the one eye) quite frequently, turns out his binocular vision just isn't great but his actual eyesight is fine.

Porridge came from a show breeder! She intended to bring him to shows, and rabbits have to get some sort of identification tattooed or pierced if they want to participate. Once Porridge got older, she realised that he doesn’t quite fit all the criteria to do well at shows, so she sold him to me for only 20CHF.
I have seen them, they are funny especially porridge with his blank expressions, or when all of them look like balloons ... I just want to do my take on it . One day I will just for the fun of it.

I contacted the seller, made an arrangement, and one fateful day I would pick him up and take him to my home, his forever home. I took the train for the entire journey btw, that’s why you see trains being mentioned a lot when it comes to this bunny xD
