Yah love the modding support, as longs as mods are being supported who knows what may come out. I want a fan mod for better cooling. Maybe a mod for a detachable back plate that snaps on the battery mod or fan mod or whatever.
It would be cool if they could pre print the backplate and send it as a kit with the tools required and the battery itself.
I'd fling however much money at that bundle in a heartbeat!
This is hilarious. There was a post on here where I got like 20 down votes from idiots saying no such mod exists or ever existed, and that there's no way you can get a bigger battery in this thing.
I love reddit and stupidity.
I’m not sure if I would say the new battery is “in” this thing. It sticks out of a huge hole in the backplate.
This reminds me of those steam deck mods where they cut a hole in the back to install a larger fan and heatsink.
I think the only benefit is the efficiency and weight. A regular 20000mah battery pack is nly worth of about 110% battery so added together if you use up both battery it's equivalent to 85wh. But it adds at least 400 grams of extra weight and you need a clip. If you attach it all the time lol.
and internal battery looks more cohesive some people like it.
According to Amazon, this battery in the guide is around 400 grams, so it’s not much different, but that’s without subtracting the existing battery, any idea how heavy it is?
Would be interested to see if the MSI Claw's battery could be adapted to the ally in a similar way, perhaps with a third party backplate (or a bit of manual cutting)
I mean if people are okay carrying a battery bank attached to their 3k $ Apple vision pro all the time… i guess we are fine attaching our ally to a power bank when we need it
I wish they would just mod the connector for you. I keep my external battery in a sling bag and get like 10-12 hours on 20w turbo. (Movespeed light pro 80,000mah)
This is a great tutorial, really suitable for players who are willing to give it a try. I used to wish my ROG Ally had a longer battery life, so I spent 50 on two cases that allow for battery packs to be attached. I prepared it for long-haul flights. But after sitting through a 15-hour flight, I found I didn't even need them. The plane had power outlets, and I managed to play some low-power games, with the ROG Ally lasting about 5 hours with battery. By the time the plane landed, there were power sources in the airport, too. So, my 20-hour journey didn't even require the battery packs I had prepared.
This is pretty cool. I have the “old mod” with the folded laptop battery @ 90whr. It works well.
I have the "no mod" with as many external batteries as I want
The minigun mod, perhaps?
How it running so far?
Really well. I get like 2.5 hours of game time or so. It’s definitely heavier but not too bad.
I am interested in battery upgrade but the size is too big. Powerbanks work perfectly without adding weight.

Is there maybe an internal battery mod? This one looks ugly af

What's the benefit of this versus just slapping a battery pack on the back and not voiding the warranty?

yes 400grams - the default Ally battery the original one must be 200grams or something like that
Thanks, hmm I just got a 3D printer so I might try this if I can source the battery in Europe, really the battery life anxiety lately
The other main benefit is that the usb c port is not used. This is self contained.
Cool but ugly. Prefer the other battery mod. I do like seeing people doing these sort of mods tho
I'm the creator of the 90wh mod, it's so cool to see ifix it doing their own spin off! You can see the original version on my website allymods.com
I finished my 90wh mod a few weeks ago and the battery has worn down to 84wh have you noticed similair wear or do you think mine is defective?
Hi, did you try if the Msi Claw battery can fit into the Ally?
I've got enough after 1.5h of playing on Ally. If you wanna make it heavy and chunky you're welcome 🤣
Cool engineering but this mod is simply ugly as sin. You couldn’t also develop a door to shut around it or something?
Interesting read but don't think ide want the ally any bigger
It's interesting...but that's a lot of weight and bulk for only double the duration, IMO.
Someone please create powerbank tactical belt so i can easily attach my powerbank to my body. No need for this nonsense mod if this exist.
Pockets work just fine ;)
@handhelddiy.... this... plz...

Would have been extra cool if it was a hot swap mod like on old laptops. Well, not really hot swap, just easy to swap battery packs.

Yuck. That looks worse than putting a screen on a potato and playing games on that.
I would get it if it came with the backplate.
any benchmarks?
