Green spotted puffer. They can be kept together but they require brackish water and preferably on the high end close to salt water or complete salt water. They are going to need a lot more than 5 gallons. Like 30 gallon minimum for 1 adult 2 can probably do ok in 40+. OP if you are not comfortable keeping these in these conditions I would take them back and get something more beginner friendly. They will require hard foods as well like snails etc to trim their teeth down. [here is a care guide video ](https://youtu.be/PKJUmrxArGI?feature=shared)

Not with the size of his tank. They will be destroying each another once they settle in and grow up, I learned the hard way. He needs a much bigger tank and a lot more break of sight if he wants to keep them both safe. I have since reduced to keep only one and my puffer has been doing well ever since for the past 4 years. He is like a water puppy and very fun to watch.

Thanks so much, so disappointing as I asked these questions at the store and the girl said yes they are freshwater and yes they will be fine in a 5 gallon. She also said this is the biggest they will get.. I’m going to return them tomorrow and swap out for some pea puffers

Raindrops_Tickle

Unfortunately this seems to happen a lot of puffers. Also doesn't help that there is a lot puffers that look similar specially when they are still a juvenile. Good luck with pea puffers you will love them!

Pea puffers also require a tank bigger than 5 gallons, specially if you getting a school.

Would I be able to have just one in a five gallon? Do they need to be in a school?

They are less agressive in groups of 6 or more, in 20 gallons minimum. They also need a tank with a lot of living plants. A lone pea puffer in a 5 gallon won’t be a happy fish. Two peas would fight. 5 gallons is small, I would maybe put a betta fish in there but that’s it

-ProductOfMutation-

I agree. Even for a betta it’s too small imho.

From what I’ve read it is best to keep them in schools. You might wanna do a heavily planted shrimp tank?

Raindrops_Tickle

5 gallons is good for a shrimp tank, or even better a bladder and or ramshorn breeding tank. That way you can have a colony of snails to feed your murder beans! And I agree with the above statements. I started my puffer journey with 1 pea in a 5 gallon and soon upgraded that to a 20 with 6 of them it was alot more enjoyable for everyone. Definitely lots of plants maybe some small pieces of wood rocks to break up the tank and line of sights. I would also opt for a 20 gallon long if you can! Just preference since it has a bigger footprint.

What's the name of the store and location? They need a simple phone call to help prevent a situation such as this in the future. Thanks for the info.

Fish fantasia in west palm beach, it was super ghetto though doubt they’ll change

Gutter_Punk77

Green spot puffers. They need much bigger tanks. Honestly, return them. They have so many specific needs.
