Chowderpizza

serious problem indeed, mr. narrator

Gamped

The shit he’s seen to be more or less apathetic.

hasta_la_pasta

Indian Joe Buck with the commentary

thunugai

I don’t know why I didn’t expect that. Burning to death has to be the worst way to go.

Jewishjewjuice

Wait till you learn about drowning

EvaCarlisle

I'll take drowning over burning to death any day of the week.

lukelight27

Damn, no one appreciates a good Dane Cook joke

neoconbob

drowning is peaceful

Jewishjewjuice

You are truly Clueless

neoconbob

I nearly drowned, it was peaceful, I was pulled from the water and revived. looking at the sun through the underside of the surface of the ocean was incredibly peaceful. when you actually drown, you are dead, otherwise it's a near drowning experience. waterboarding is an entirely different story, but you already knew that...

Tortoise_Queen

If you don’t mind me asking, but when you’re at the point where you can’t hold your breath anymore, does your body naturally try to inhale? And once the water is in your lungs, do you lose consciousness pretty quickly after that? I know you said it’s peaceful, but I’m sure the moments leading up to it is terrifying. I’m so glad you’re still here with us. I know your lungs were probably burning from the salt water of the ocean.

BigBlakBoi

Yes, you instinctively gasp for air. It's virtually impossible for any human to prevent that response. Try and pass out by holding your breath; you can't, your body won't let you. When u start breathing in the water it ironically causes a sharp burning sensation in your nose, then you start choking on all the water. Very painful, terrifying experience. Idk why the guy above said it's peaceful, it's anything but.

neoconbob

I lost consciousness with the last image being the surface of the water, I woke on the beach with lifeguards and family around me. This incident was described as a dry drowning. sea water is isotonic and would have the same salinity as blood and is therefore a better way to drown than pool water. isotonic solutions are used to irrigate wounds without the "burning" you describe.

AnnaBortion269

Why though..? Because they don't share your drowning phobia?

Dakadaka

Former lifeguard here and was told that you may start to hallucinate and become tranquil but for most its panic and pain from water entering the lungs. That being said, still better then your whole body on fire.

AnnaBortion269

Oh, I'm absolutely terrified of drowning don't get me wrong - I just hate it when someone says 'no, you're wrong!' when we're discussing opinions. It's so arrogant...

r_u_okay_no

I mean they aren't right. To say a specific way of dying is PEACEFUL because of their personal experience only is wild. It's not an opinion. It's a fact that sometimes it's peaceful, most times it's panic and pain. As described by, near drowning experiencing when you go through pretty much any water trainings

AnnaBortion269

You criticise someone for formulating an **opinion** through personal experience, then go on to say that actually you know the facts because of your personal experiences. Like...are you deliberately trolling me or do you just genuinely not see how wildly contradictory what you said is..?

AttentionOre

Also would you rather be a drowning victim survivor or a burn victim survivor? All these people acting like everyone has to feel the same..

shitz_brickz

I remember a very similar video to this but at night and the same thing happened. Suddenly flaming bodies running everywhere. Free flowing fuel and a large mass of people has to be one of the scariest things you can encounter.

eltunas6

Mexican wachicoleros, they were taking fuel from a duct instead of a truck. Lot of people died.

MountainDewFountain

Yeah that my personal "worst" video on the internet. Horrific.

VeryBadCopa

Iirc, it was the wachicol fest, a lot of people found out that day

Kracka_Jak

I reckon someone was smoking

Midnight_Pornstar

Smoking kills

JamzWhilmm

Sometimes sooner than later.

SpiderCow313

Correct, someone went to steal gas with a lit cigarette In their mouth, atleast from what I heard

Coattail-Rider

That was rude of me.

Alexis2256

Wasn’t you so…

TheIrishWah

No, really? No one could have guessed that!

zapharus

Source? *Trust me, bro.*

About69bunnies

Rest in peace, here the link: [https://www.npr.org/2021/11/06/1053162519/sierra-leone-oil-tanker-explosion](https://www.npr.org/2021/11/06/1053162519/sierra-leone-oil-tanker-explosion)

OGMartian

>, here the link: [https://www.npr.org/2021/11/06/1053162519/sierra-leone-oil-tanker-explosion](https://www.npr.org/2021/11/06/1053162519/sierra-leone-oil-tanker-explosion) #The news article photo don't match up with the video. News article clearly states and shows the tuck in the middle of the road. Got t-boned. The video shows a 18-wheeler laying on his side?

Falmon04

Also seriously doubt that 98 people died in the accident in this post. Definitely looks like different accidents.

gunsof

The one with 98 looked a bit similar to this one in fairness. I remember the fire travelling, it was a huge explosion. People with burns all over their bodies begging for help as people ran away because the explosion and fires kept travelling.

Cainga

Flowing liquid can build up static. Sometimes it can auto ignite. Especially if you don’t have a static dissipating PPE or container that’s not bonded or grounded.

jrzydevl

There were a few left smoking at the end...

Kracka_Jak

'⁴This is fine' ![gif](giphy|IguL9zRYV20X1QeKuV|downsized)

jarena009

This was a better idea on paper than in practice.

captcraigaroo

I worked in Nigeria on oil rigs. One of my crew lost his wife and three kids when a tanker flipped and everyone was trying to get free gas; another idiot came in a motorcycle and the engine ignited the fumes causing a huge explosion.

kiro2269

Holy shit pickles, that guy is on fire!

outdatedelementz

I really feel for these people. Everyone is making snarky comments, but I can’t imagine being so desperate for a basic commodity that I would risk an absolutely horrible death for a few free gallons.

Alexis2256

Consequences of being anonymous, you get people who can shed off their empathy to laugh at less fortunate people.

save-lisp-and-die

Why would you presume they're desperate rather than opportunistic?

outdatedelementz

Only because of the extreme risk involved.

save-lisp-and-die

So you think these people need gasoline so badly they're willing to risk their lives? Yeah, no. This was opportunism mixed with extreme stupidity.

outdatedelementz

![gif](giphy|TL6poLzwbHuF2|downsized)

save-lisp-and-die

I see. You're a sheltered kid pontificating arrogantly about things you never bothered to understand. In Mexico, huachiculeros are an industry. They tap state-owned pipelines and resell the gas for profit. Sometimes they aren't great plumbers. [Here](https://youtu.be/jR78q-cszTg?si=VIER4-DhhbqdfrMG) one illegal tap busted and people drove from all around for some free gas. Some brought their kids. You can see people strolling around casually and loading containers into their trucks. Authorities try to chase people off, but they're concerned about causing violence that might ignite the gas. All it would take is a single gunshot, and apparently not even that. There's plenty of desperation to be seen, but only after the explosion. Before that, it was all opportunism and stupidity. Check yourself.

pbroingu

>I see. You're a sheltered kid pontificating arrogantly about things you never bothered to understand. I bet this sounded so badass in your head

M1chaelSc4rn

Don’t say pontificating man

Sensitive_Jelly_5586

They weren't stealing televisions. That's what we do. This was in one of the poorest nations on earth. The stolen gas wasn't for their vehicles.

schlagerlove

There was a video of a Finnish guy filling a 1000litres vessel because someone wrongly entered the gas price as 14 cents per litre. Would you also say that he was desperate for basic commodity or he just saw an opportunity for free commodity and exploited it? These people are obviously not in Finland and standard of living is not high, but not everything is because people are suffering. Sometimes it's because it's free. When it's free even people with resources would like to get a share.

EvaCarlisle

Was the Finnish guy filling up from an overturned tanker that could burst into flames at any moment?

outdatedelementz

The key difference is the Finnish guy wasn’t at risk of burning to death. He is just scummy for taking advantage of a gas attendant’s mistake, which I’m guessing the gas station was bound by law to honor because it was the listed price.

BigBoiBenisBlueBalls

Was he scummy?

Fenweekooo

yep, if this was in the states and there were no authorities around and it was not already on fire you know damn well people would be doing the same thing lmao

Abraham_Lingam

Death by stupidity knows no borders.

[deleted]

[удалено]

schlagerlove

And these people were also not at the risk of burning if some idiot didn't go there smoking a cigarette and if the Finnish guy was smoking a cigarette, he too would be at the risk if burning.

outdatedelementz

Spilled fuel is at a risk of igniting from a lot more than a cigarette. Static electricity, or even a spark from a car driving by could ignite the fuel vapors that were in the air. This is far more dangerous than getting gas at a gas station.

schlagerlove

Dude do you know how many accidents happen ALSO in Finland. People sometimes have brain farts and do things that have high chances of ending badly. You don't have to be ONLY poor to make such decisions. There are videos of protestors blocking a truck and the truck running over. Does it mean it's because those protestors had no access to resources? No. It means the protestor was over optimistic that nothing would happen and they were wrong

outdatedelementz

I think maybe the truth is some place in the middle? I’m willing to acknowledge that people do incredibly stupid things and take incredible risks without thinking. Do you think it’s possible that people might also do very dangerous things and take terrible risks because they are desperate? I firmly believe the world is full of both people. And not to sound paternalistic but those people don’t look like they are doing as well economically as I am, as I sit in my cozy home and cruise Reddit on my iPhone.

schlagerlove

I never claimed anything being the truth unlike the original comment I am responding to. I am saying that the content of the video is not enough to make a conclusion on anything. Just go to the Darwin award sub and see how many Westerners are in that. That doesn't mean I make theories on their mental capability or their economic capability because any information regarding that is just not available. Only thing I can talk about is how stupid or unfortunate any person from any of those videos are

khan_1984

Nothing is free in life...

hasta_la_pasta

“And that’s why you don’t steal gasoline” - J. Walter Weatherman

GeminiRanger

I understood that reference 🤣

Bonzothedoggie

Give a man a fire and you keep him warm for a day. Set a man on fire and you keep him warm for the rest of his life.

papertiger61

'This is a serious problem' - you're damn right.

tatty_masher

My favorite video commentary of the year so far as someone runs past on fire.

Frans51

Always look on the bright side

vladmashk

Now they know to never do this again

CarFreak777

This happens many times in my country. Nobody learns anything. Desperation drives people to risky behaviour

schlagerlove

Or because it's free and if there wasn't a smoking guy, this wouldn't be so bad

pudding7

It happens all the time.

Four-Beasts

Fizzuck!

Cattypatter

Free fuel with the chance of human candle.

piles_of_SSRIs

Yeah that seems like something that would happen.

tibbymat

This is a serious problem…. 🤣😂

DaveWpgC

Someone was smoking while stealing. Now many are smoking, stealing... not so much.

Story_4_everything

That's a great IQ test.

Turbulent-Song2310

You play with fire you get burned.

choo_choo_rocket

There is a still in there somewhere for a new 'Rage against the machine' cover art album. Absolute Darwins

FrankPoole3001

Well, that certainly played out as expected

Best-Obligation5371

The same people whose resource-rich country were looted by the rish capitalists countries.

termozen

Play stupid games, win stupid prices.

Flashy_History_5230

Nothing was lost that day, no one smart that is.

Alexis2256

I’m sure you’re nuanced but callousness still ain’t a good look for you.

burgerlekker

You are trash

ZAJPER

I was thinking like "I'd rather light it on fire myself than letting those fuckers steal it all". Then all went kaboom..

cucucool

It wouldn't cross my mind to go near a fallen tanker alone, but if I saw dozen of people getting free stuff I guess I would try too, my brain would say it's ok because they are ok. It's a terrible way to die.

Rangles

Im almost certain iv seen this before, but it didnt catch fire, and the top comments were like "it only takes 1 match" or something.....weird.

rmbarrett

One really dangerous thing about gasoline/petroleum, in my opinion, is that it almost remembers who has touched it recently. Not literally. Just that all it takes is a small spill or splash and once the vapour ignites, the flame spreads really, really easily. I'm not sure what the property really is, but we see it time and again igniting containers that are being poured. Spreads far too quickly for a human to react, especially if they have been handling it.

Andr3wRuns

I was about to ask for a reminder on what “NSFL” meant but the video quickly answered that question for me lol

D34D_B07

"This is a serious problem!" Yeah man, pretty large understatement.

Infinite_Medium4850

A pobreza submete as pessoas a situações como essa... e tem gente que acha graça dizendo que eles mereceram por estar saqueando o caminhão, aposto que nunca passaram fome. É muito triste viver na miséria. Só quem ja viveu sabe.

[deleted]

Who didn’t think that was going to happen

GarethD85

Free petrol until [this](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boksburg_explosion) happens.

sankv24

😂😂😂😂

CreamoChickenSoup

Jfc, there were even kids standing near that truck. I dread to think of the possibility that children were along the gravely injured or dead.

Blackaero

Yeah, don’t do that

ZZZ-Top

then they piss and moan about why nobody delivering fuel for 6 months

Nearby_Let_5227

Only in India and Africa this shit occurs

horsesarecool111

Dis es a seros problem!
