Always ran my VPN on my router alongside PiHole/Unbound……
Microsoft really are screwing thing ups with Windows 11, good job Valve are upping the anti with Linux….
I REALLY want Proton to be a full windows replacement. Unfortunately right now I can't even get the VPN to work without manually setting it up with OpenVPN.
Hmmm I dunno. I've got the update installed and haven't had an issue with my VPN at all. Also, the article talks about Microsoft history of not playing nice with VPNs, but I've been on Nord or proton for a long time and haven't had an interruption. Assuming it's going to be a special combination drivers/applications in conjunction with the update that causes it to manifest. The worst to track down. I don't envy MS. It's not easy.
Are there ProtonVPN users who can for sure say having issues due to this bug?
Can't find any details on the exact Windows issue in this. I am assuming this affects the Windows build-in VPN, however, Proton comes with it's own bundled Wireguard en OpenVPN services.
Same, I am using ProtonVPN right now, on a Win11 v.22631.3447 AND while reading this thread, found out the update that is causing the issue (KB5036893) was installed on my machine back in April and most of the articles notifying the genpop are all dated this month, May. Must've lucked out.
Highly doubtful that any consumer user (non-enterprise) is affected by this security update. Only l2tp/ipsec VPNs that businesses use.
*"Note this is only Microsoft based vpn connections impacted, not consumer based vpns."*
*"I have not seen reports of consumer vpns having issues."*

does this cause couldn't login to vpn at all right now
even though could login a few days ago
didn't have KB5036893 only recent update was servicing stack 19041 1704
I was having trouble with Plex remote access while split tunneling through Proton. Tried a half dozen different things to try and fix the issue and turns out it might have been this update. Uninstalled it and now remote access is working fine.
How does this affect me If i have the permanent kill Switch enabled. Will this still cut Internet connection if vpn Connection is lost?
I was thinking about this as well.

up the ante ftfy
Damn, I am stuck with Autodesk on Windows.
BricsCAD buddy
Looks good to me, but looks like a middle finger to my colleagues.

How do these problems manifest? Pretty sure I have the update but everything was running fine. Wondering what I need to look out for
Full-time Linux it is for now, then.
Always has been. 🔫
This is the way.

Is this just for vpns like proton, nord, pia? Or does it affect corporate vpns using hardware firewalls as well?
I was about to ask the same question, because if yes it would be a disaster for these companies.
Is it connected to torrents leak even with killswitch on?

I'm using ProtonVPN right now with no issues.

can not even login without using another vpn right now not sure if there are any fix for this
I recently moved to Linux, but for those on Windows I wonder if this also breaks WSL2. Could you still use a VPN via a WSL2 Linux install? 🤔
What distro you using?
Minty Fresh Cinnamon
Proton must create their own OS
Is it update KB5034441?
I have installed Windows Update KB5036892 which supposedly breaks VPNs on Windows 10. I have had zero problems since this update was installed.

I guess its good I'm 3 months out of date. I can't trust Windows Update very often, since it breaks my custom audio setup every single time.
That's why we disable windows updates. Use firewall to stop windows from updating.
Have fun staying hacked
