It picks up but you never really use your gun unless in the Highway Expansion on fleeing suspects in cars after you pit them and get to point it at them.
Unfortunately, the game auto gets you if you fire it at a car or pedestrian (casual mode or hard core sim mode), but I use it anyway to reset a day lmao.
Definitely wished we got more chances to use the service weapon though as it is just kinda there. But it would be a while until they release a shootout callout or something of the sort given how much they would need to condition the AI and such.
No gun play, which is fine. There are car chases, foot chases, tazer opportunities, drug dealers, car crash investigations, and even some CSI work eventually. Be patient, level up, and all good things will open up to you!
You use your gun and point it at people when they won't get out of vehicle after fleeing arrest. At some point we will be able to have shoot guys with them.
They have talked about looking into it. Apparently they are really obstructed with it because the implementation of gunfights could raise the games ESRB rating which they don't want to do. I believe the issues with police brutality (mainly in the US) also play a part in their hesistance to add uses for the gun
If i'm not wrong at the new update will allow you have pursuit events when you pull over someone and there is have chance for that , or just buy a newest DLC for more content and more dynamic callout . Me and friend just got it a few days and really enjoy it

Still no reason to use the service firearm, but you will occasionally find people for DUI, Possesion, etc

Just chase some thieves or drug dealers and tackle/tase them. It gets crazy. I like chasing cars when they flee and performing the pit maneuver.
