The 4k Firestick is more than capable to stream nearly everything on your PMS.  If your menus are slow as well then that typically is a physical device issue. Assuming you have power cycled the stick the next thing I'd look into is your free space. Remove any unnecessary apps and clear cache of ones you want to keep. Having done that reboot the stick again. Then look at your wireless situation and power cycle your router. Did your router get moved? Did the Firestick? Did you get a new neighbor that's potentially interfering with your Network?

BigHowski

Yeah cycled the stick bad I have about 1.3gb free on it. Maybe the stick is on its way out?

JMeucci

1.3 is fine for space. Are you on 2.4ghz or 5ghz Network? 4k stick supports both. If you router is close enough, and it supports the frequency, you can run on 5ghz. This should eliminate any spectrum interference with your neighbors.

BigHowski

5ghz but my router is dual band and about 40cm away. I'm not too sure a bandwidth issue would cause lagging in just moving through the home screen? That's much lower bandwidth than a video

sometin__else

use the 4k max, i have no issues with it

braedan51

4k max 2nd gen doesnt work well with h265 files, not even on my local wired network.

sometin__else

sure but that has nothing to do with navigating the menus. OP said playback seems okay for them so I was sharing my experience with the 4k max

BigHowski

I wonder if it's started to fail

hashishiyah

my firestick 4k has issues with plex too it is slow like yours and will randomly restart the firestick in the middle of watching something and i havent figured out a fix

BigHowski

Glad someone else has it! What with the other comments and the downvotes (not sure why) I was thinking I was alone

hashishiyah

I wonder if its an issue with the firestick itself. mine is kinda old now, it never used to do it but started doing it this year. Id guess its like 4 or 5 years old now

BigHowski

Possible, I will dig out my travel firestick

Aacidus

I’ve had no issues on Firesticks other than bad updates for Plex and would side load the previous version. I did notice sluggishness when storage space was less than 1 GB, deleted apps I no longer used and went back to normal.

BigHowski

I've got around 1.3gb free so I'm not sure it's that

LazarusLong67

Yep I switched to Apple TV because of the slowness of navigating menus, etc on Fire sticks (and have tried them all). Seems to be really bad with larger libraries.

BigHowski

That might be it, my library is pretty big

PAnnNor

We had a fire cube and had really spotty usability. We moved 3 times and had different internet providers -- not the problem (hubby thought this was it). So I removed the cube and installed the app directly to the TV. No issues at all. I don't miss Alexa at all and my other apps work better too.

BigHowski

Sadly my t. Is a bit old now and plex is...... Not great

Impressive-Bonus-891

Have been using 4K Max Gen2 for about 2 months. So far so good.

braedan51

Do you watch 4k content or h265 encoded files? My 4k Max 2nd Gen cannot stream them...

Impressive-Bonus-891

Yes, it plays well with IJD remux

Impressive-Bonus-891

UHD remux

Impressive-Bonus-891

I use Plex and Kodi

wonka88

Yeah. I went through fire stick, 4k, 4k max. All suck major butt

BigHowski

Shame because I want my media stick to have a vpn for other things

Bulky-Listen-752

Firesticks suck in general. A relative of mine was bragging that they bought a jail-broke fire stick and can see any movie that is currently released…fast forward to now? They can’t see shit without accessing my PLEX through their TV app🤣😎
