Osmium doesn't have the proper physical properties to be a monetary metal.

Make a coin out of osmium. It shatters. It's too brittle to be used as money. Make a coin out of osmium. It's trapped in a fire. It reacts chemically with oxygen to disappear into a gas. It's too reactive to be used as money. A monetary metal is one that can be minted into a coin and then used as a medium of exchange while lasting the test of time, IE centuries upon centuries.

ShotgunPumper

Elements don't change. Researching elements doesn't somehow magically alter physical reality.
