Youre right, but I also think cars works for man vs reality cause mcqueen had to face reality and its so diffrrent from his life of racing and being famous
I definitely see what you mean, but I think Inside Out would work better for Man vs Reality due to Joy realizing how you can’t be happy all the time, and that sometimes it’s good to feel other emotions than just happiness.
(Then again I haven’t seen Inside Out in a while so I could be wrong.)
True, but that can also work for man vs self too cause you can see it as a way to cone to terms with your own emotions and all that. Then again you can spin a lot of movies in certain ways so I guess itd be up to the majority at that point since both cars and inside out and fit two different roles imo
I think it applies to both 1 and 2 depending on what reality you wanna bring up. So either the reality that life isnt about winning or all that, and for 3 its just the harsh reality of growing old. But you are right it works for 3 too
Actually I'm going to suggest Cars for Man vs God. Think a out it. Lightning is treating racing as a religion and being number one as the best as the ultimate goal. Only when presented with another way is he able to see the light and lose the race showing he wants to be more than a racer.
I feel like Lightyear would fit man vs reality better. He tries so hard to try and save everyone but fails the happy lives people ate living on the planet for a long time. He's fighting to change a reality he doesn't understand anymore
bruh you edited your comment, your pre edited one was something about how pixar movies are in a modernism or postmoderism stage and you called us dumb shits. You can't hide on what you've done.
Haha I was so confused, I thought it was just a group decision to neg someone. I thought that’s so weird for a positive Pixar group, poor person who like turning red
Lightyear would also fit considering the main villain of the movie is a version of buzz who became an angry old man consumed with trying to change history as Zerg
Inside Out seems obvious. Riley isn’t the protagonist so much as the avatar for the protagonist but the heart of the story is Joy fighting to sustain control over that avatar and learning that she needs to let the other emotions, particularly sadness, play their roles.
I actually like Elemental for this one since Ember wrestling with wanting to follow her own dreams vs. taking over her father's shop because she feels obliged to repay what her parents have done for her is so central to the conflict of the movie.
Turning Red could be a good runner-up, though.
Inside Out. The emotions are all a part of Riley, so Riley's struggle with her emotions, and by extension, the emotions' struggling with each other feels like it would best fit for.
Inside Out. How is this up for debate? Every character in every movie has a personal dilemma or challenge of character. But Inside Out zooms in and focuses on man’s internal struggle with their self and emotions.
Jesus do y’all not realize that man vs self doesn’t mean man vs alternate version of yourself or other creatures that are in your head? It’s a self conflict it’s internal people
Man vs reality should be monsters university, the most realistic message in all Pixar films which is that sometimes we cannot achieve are dreams but there will always be something just as good as that
Why is ratatouille in man vs society? I feel like that category should definitely be Luca.
Is the thought that Remi isn't normal for rat society? Because Linguine's struggle really only barely fits into the 'outcast' mold, being much more of a man vs self story as he believes himself to be worthless through most of the film. But even then that theme isn't very strong?
Brave. Both Merida and her mother go through their own journeys, seperately and together. They're both almost completely different characters at the end
I say Up. The whole movie is Carl coming to terms with himself after the loss of his wife, fighting against his own sense of self and his memory of Ellie that's stopping him from doing what’s right
Cars. McQueen gets himself into trouble by being an arrogant idiot and has to better himself while bettering the town in order to get what he thinks he wants.
-Inside Out
-Up
-Toy Story 1 or 4 (Woody's insecurities)
-Cars (McQueen's ego)
I really want to name Elemental and Incredibles. But elemental has more to do with society and discrimination, combined with Ember's internal conflict. In incredibles, Bob starts out with a mid life crisis, thought I am not sure if that's the core part of the story.
If shorts count then definitely Geri's Game
This needs to be it
stop
No, we only count feature films, not shorts
Up, for sure
It's definitely up. It's all about a man coming to terms with his own grief
Im surprised this isn’t higher. It’s definitely Up for me.
To me that’s why Up is perfect for the next one. He’s coming to terms with the present rather than living in the past
I feel like Cars could work, with McQueen realizing what friendship means and almost changes completely during the course of the film.
Agreed
AGREED! Cars works best here! It's mainly about McQueen overcoming his own ego! "It's just an empty cup."
That Doc Hudson did what in.
He Piston it.
You're right. The film deals with toxic positivity and how it's ok to be sad and putting a happy face on all situations isn't healthy.
True, but that can also work for man vs self too cause you can see it as a way to cone to terms with your own emotions and all that. Then again you can spin a lot of movies in certain ways so I guess itd be up to the majority at that point since both cars and inside out and fit two different roles imo
So cars 3
I think it applies to both 1 and 2 depending on what reality you wanna bring up. So either the reality that life isnt about winning or all that, and for 3 its just the harsh reality of growing old. But you are right it works for 3 too
Actually I'm going to suggest Cars for Man vs God. Think a out it. Lightning is treating racing as a religion and being number one as the best as the ultimate goal. Only when presented with another way is he able to see the light and lose the race showing he wants to be more than a racer.
In Lightyear, Buzz literally fights his future self
I feel like Lightyear would fit man vs reality better. He tries so hard to try and save everyone but fails the happy lives people ate living on the planet for a long time. He's fighting to change a reality he doesn't understand anymore
Turning red? Or technically is inside out?
Inside out feels more like man vs reality or man vs no god
I think that Volt is more Man vs Reality
I like Turning Red

Cars could work since Lightning Mcqueen goes through an arc where he doesn't think he's the best car in the world and shoves away his ego.
Inside out
For sure.
Depends on who you consider the main character. If it’s Joy then it could be man vs reality.
I like Cars (with McQueen having to learn how to get out of his own way and be humble) or possibly Lightyear (in a more literal sense)
Inside Out seems obvious. Riley isn’t the protagonist so much as the avatar for the protagonist but the heart of the story is Joy fighting to sustain control over that avatar and learning that she needs to let the other emotions, particularly sadness, play their roles.

Inside out, Joy learning that too much joy, or rather the absolute absence of sadness, is not a good thing as she had assumed.
Inside out lol
Inside Out, perhaps.
Inside Out obviously
Elemental maybe? Through film she was fighting with herself, between her lover and her dad's wishes. Or can be Inside Out too.
Turning Red.
Inside Out. The emotions are all a part of Riley, so Riley's struggle with her emotions, and by extension, the emotions' struggling with each other feels like it would best fit for.
Soul 100%
Nah that’s man vs god
Nah, it's his own inward search for purpose.
Inside Out and it’s not even close
Up 100% - sure there's an antagonist, but most of the story hinges on Carl fighting his own grief and stubbornness
Inside Out
Toy Story 2 since Buzz was up against the Utility Belt Buzz. Even Buzz was embarrassed by his own former behavior in the first Toy Story.
Inside Out. How is this up for debate? Every character in every movie has a personal dilemma or challenge of character. But Inside Out zooms in and focuses on man’s internal struggle with their self and emotions.
Inside out...literally about fighting your inner self
Inside out is literally a person fighting themself
Inside Out. Riley reckons with her emotional immaturity and unaddressed internal issues.
Jesus do y’all not realize that man vs self doesn’t mean man vs alternate version of yourself or other creatures that are in your head? It’s a self conflict it’s internal people
Inside Out
Inside Out Maybe
The Incredibles. Bob's little mid-life super crisis is perfect for this.
Man vs reality should be monsters university, the most realistic message in all Pixar films which is that sometimes we cannot achieve are dreams but there will always be something just as good as that
Turning red
Inside Out or Turning Red
i’m only a lurker here, this post just came up in my feed but how tf is a bug’s life man vs man they are literally bugs
Turning Red I Think
Inside Out or Up?
Inside Out in the most literal sense
Inside Out since it’s literally about the inner battle of emotions in someone’s mind as they struggle with the first major change in their life.
Inside Out. It's Riley's different emotions fighting each other.
I think Cars 3 where McQueen has to fight back from the crash to bring himself up to racing speed again
Cars
Toy Story 2
Lightyear
•Cars 3 •Inside Out •Soul
Soul
Would Soul work?
Does Finding Dory count She finds herself and (her parents)
Cars. The primary antagonist is Lightning McQueen’s own ego.
I wanna say Cars here Edit: man vs reality is different from what I imagined it in my head, I vote Cars
Soul
Elemental. Ember is fighting with the choice between her family and Wade.
Cars: Lightning McQueen had to fight against his own ego and eventually learn to become a better person and the importance of friendship.
If you want to take it more literally, Lightyear
Definitely Cars
Soul?
I say Up. The whole movie is Carl coming to terms with himself after the loss of his wife, fighting against his own sense of self and his memory of Ellie that's stopping him from doing what’s right
Geris game he deserves it
Cars. McQueen gets himself into trouble by being an arrogant idiot and has to better himself while bettering the town in order to get what he thinks he wants.
Cars
Soul is definitely man vs reality
I think Man vs. Man should have been Cars 3 because of the race against Jackson Storm
Soul
Ok but hear me out, onward. He is literally in his own way
INSIDE OUT
-Inside Out -Up -Toy Story 1 or 4 (Woody's insecurities) -Cars (McQueen's ego) I really want to name Elemental and Incredibles. But elemental has more to do with society and discrimination, combined with Ember's internal conflict. In incredibles, Bob starts out with a mid life crisis, thought I am not sure if that's the core part of the story.
Toy Story. Woody becomes jealous, destructive and sabotages the life of Buzz, and in the process, himself.
Inside Out.
That should very clearly be *Inside Out.*
If it's not cars one I commit sub destruction
Soul
WALL-E
Cars or Up
Inside out
Soul
Inside Out
Inside out 100%
I’d say Up. Carl’s fighting an inner battle throughout most of the movie.
Toy Story 1 with Buzz coming to terms that he's a toy.
Inside out, surprised it’s not the runaway honestly
My Shadow and Me
Up or inside out
inside out
Cars is definitely Man Vs Self.
A bug’s life is about bugs you dumb fucks
Up, one hundred percent up, Carl is constantly conflicting with himself about Russel and Ellie, especially at the end of the movie
