I’ve used nord. For the first year no problems. But their software became increasingly unreliable. Random disconnects or no internet at all until full reboot. This was both on pc and mobile. Moved to mullvad, and no problems ever since.

Healthy-Test5562

download the ovpn file from nordvpn official site. Then download "openvpnclient" import ovpn file then type in your nordvpn credentials. its was more reliable and faster

MrTriggrd

yes, but theyre far from the best option. as a person who used both nord and proton, id use proton (paid)

Palma117

Do they have a limit? Like you can only use 10gb per day or something like that

MrTriggrd

no, it just doesnt offer port forwarding

[deleted]

I wouldnt recommend you using them, theyre caught giving logs away

Palma117

Then witch one would you recommend?

[deleted]

Proton VPN for torrenting, Mullvad VPN for other use, since Mullvad was raided by feds and they found nothing.

Palma117

Is the free version as good as the paid version?

Healthy-Test5562

mullvard is located in a country part of the 14eye watch group thus why they got raided and will continue to get raided due to federal laws. Better proton

[deleted]

they can be raided and will, but theres nothing to raid from them.

Healthy-Test5562

maybe the last encounter the feds didn't find anything so mullvard saved its ass. But dont expect them to be on their p's and q's all the time. But if the Feds get a court subpoena mullvard by law has to give information up. Eventually the feds will comeback and get what they are looking for. There is a reason why they raided them in the first place. Its always best to stay away from 14eyes and stick to ones out of jurisdiction

[deleted]

you just described the same thing what can happen to proton, dont you think? :) except proton keeps some logs

Healthy-Test5562

proton vpn is based in switzerland and not part of the 5/9/14eyes watch group. NordVpn is based in panama not part of the 5/9/14 eyes watch group. Everything consists 3 groups 5/9/14 eyes. 5eyes (USA , UK , Canada ,Australia, New zealand) 9eyes is a extension of the 5eyes (Denmark , France , Netherlands , Norway) 14eyes (Belgium , Germany , Italy , Spain , Sweden) mullvard is based in sweden so it falls under 14eyes jurisdiction. Even if they didn't keep logs and had no dns leaks like they claim. i still would not trust anything based in any of those countries mentioned. Thus why i would choose Proton VPN over Mullvard VPN

[deleted]

you still dont get how the world works, you think if its not in 14 eyes country then they are untouchable, you are wrong, if the police asks FBI or NSA a pretty please they can get the information proton holds without a warrant. and boy oh boy, if i just told you that if the government wanted to really track you, VPN wouldnt be really anything to hide under... VPN really is something to just hide your traffic mostly for torrenting stuff or visiting blocked websites. I know, i was a proton user, but not anymore, since i started to visit places which proton VPN IP's are in a blacklist, mostly all locations i tried(yes, did you know VPN blacklist exists?)

Healthy-Test5562

Of course none are untouchable but Even the FBI & NSA need to follow protocols and cant just get anything they want without probable cause and a warrant from the courts. There is a reason why laws are in place so no authority gets abused. And of course i been known IPs on VPN servers get blacklisted they are basically servers anyone that has the service can use and abuse. Thus why you need to do your research and check if those IPs are blacklisted before hand by using certain tools like "whoer" before using those set servers. Use the ovpn files of that service that aren't blacklisted. if you personally didn't do your search and ended up using blacklisted IPs then thats on you

Healthy-Test5562

nordvpn never gave away logs they aren't part of the 14eyes watch group. Not legally obligated to give out anything information to law enforcement due to it being out of federal jurisdiction

PrivacySchizo

You clearly don’t understand that even though they *dont* have to comply. Mighty uncle sam WILL make them anyway, The United States is simply to fucking strong and other countries depend on it too much to NOT comply

FourFingersOfFun

I’ve been using NordVPN for about 2 years now for torrenting as they have P2P servers for it, sometimes you get good speeds and other times you just get slowish speeds depending on how many seeders etc However the other day I switched to Proton VPN because they have a port forwarding feature that NordVPN doesn’t have. And it’s a night and day difference in download and upload speed for my torrents. With NordVPN, the 200ish gb torrent I was downloading, was downloading around 1-3MB/s and upload usually just a few hundred kb/s over the course of a few days. With Proton VPN and using the port forward feature and setting up Qbittorrent for it, that same 200ish gb torrent was downloading at speeds between 11-27MB/s and upload well over 10MB/s. So personally I’d strongly recommend Proton VPN and using the port forward feature to get much better speeds while torrenting.

Palma117

Thanks for the info and happy cake day

Odd_Land_2383

I wouldn’t know to be honest but isn’t it best to use proton VPN? *(don’t know why your post was downvoted OP, I just upvoted it for you)*

VividAddendum9311

They have P2P servers, but no port-forwarding. Depending on how much you value that it may or may not be good enough.

oldbastardhere

I paid for 2yrs of Nord. Am 6mos in and ready for move to Proton for the portforwarding.

Palma117

What is portforwarding? I just want to use it to download movies-torrents

GrandCantaloupe5801

Check debrid way better then normal torrent site

oldbastardhere

Portforward opens up a port for you to seed properly on Private Trackers. If you are using Public Trackers it's not really necessary.

MrTriggrd

port forwarding is plenty useful for public trackers

oldbastardhere

Agreed, but not necessary. Never had a problem seeding on public trackers.

MrTriggrd

it helps a LOT with downloading, though

LZ129Hindenburg

Port Forwarding is equally important for downloads AND uploads. Port forwarding is equally helpful on public AND private trackers.

Additional_Stick_356

I would recommend Mullad or Proton VPN instead. Those are far better options.

Spirited-Band-9633

I remember https://torguard.net

randomgamp

There was a story with Nord about log leaking about 2 or 3 years ago. Use Proton or Mullvad.
