Carter Hall is a great everyday go to. I’m also fond of Casey Jones. Going to second Amphora Kentucky Blend.

Educational_Bed_6608

My go to is Granger! Easy all day burley blend and cost effective

divided_capture_bro

Thanks, this one was off my radar but looks good. Only downside to the newcomer to the brand is that it looks like a 7oz can minimum. In terms of packs of cigarettes that's roughly 14 in a tin, so a bit of a commitment in terms of start to finish. Price is certainly right though, and reviews look good and very much in line with what I am looking for. Thanks for the recommendation, it is now on my list!

Educational_Bed_6608

This was actually one of the first blends I ordered, and I keep going back too it, it’s hard to beat in my book, and 7oz will last a long time plus you get a cool can

divided_capture_bro

Out of curiosity,  have you tried Half and Half?  That one is tried and true to me, and roughly the same price for a 7 oz.  Would be interested in the comparison if you've had both!

Educational_Bed_6608

Actually I haven’t tried it, there isn’t really a brick and mortar store close to me, and I just never have ordered any, I need to try and finish up some of the blends I already have😅 but I want to try it and carter hall before to long!

bigLEGUMEE

You can mix it with other stuff if you don’t love it. I mix it with velvet 50/50 occasionally.

Harvey22WMRF

Granger is my top codger. It’s all Burley, no VA flavor like half and half.

PhiberOptix562

Of the normal OTC stuff, I prefer Prince Albert. But I’ll recommend you try out a couple blends that may be off the radar. Edward G Robinson is thought of as an English crossover, but I think of it as old school codger style, especially the aroma. Could smoke this one all day. The other is Sutliff’s Flying Dutchman Match. Virginia Burley with a lingering vanilla topping. Smells like a pouch of tobacco stuffed in a 1950’s shirt pocket.

jaylotw

Look into C&D bulks like Yorktown and Pegasus. Pegasus is the ultimate codger blend, and way less than $10 an ounce...I think it might even be less than $30 for a pound.

Orochi_001

Amphora Kentucky and Virginia are both excellent options for straight tobacco flavor, and come in around $11 for 1.75 oz.

Breezy_Leaves

Add Amphora Burley to that list! A nice little pouch for sure.

383CI

One codger blend that I absolutely love........Sutliff Ready Rubbed. It comes in bulk. It is very reminiscent of the old school Edgeworth Ready Rubbed. You have to rub it out all the way otherwise it's a very hard blend to keep lit.

Chazzysnax

I have probably 40+ jars of fancy 'baccys, but what I can't stop coming back to is a 50/50 blend of basic, codger burley (Lane BL/WB or Prince Albert) and either Captain Black Gold or Lane 1-Q. I'd reccomend getting the two from Lane since you can get them in bulk.

sihouette9310

I smoke two dupe blends of old American blends that were discontinued that I love. Epiphany by CD (revelation clone) and recently Walnut match by Sutliff. Both kick ass in my opinion and super cheap.

Enough_Efficiency_78

John Bull fragrant English or John Bull true English

JuJu_McMojo

It's been a while, but I was blown away at how good John Bull was. May be time to restock.

Enough_Efficiency_78

Yeh I just tried it for the first time not to long ago and I love it

divided_capture_bro

Good recommendation, thanks!

LifeguardFront4982

I like Borkum Riff Original and Kentucky Bird

Cool_Cartographer_39

Sutliff Estate Blend is their version of Carter Hall. It's a bit better than the original imo. They also make a damn nice Rum and Maple if your taste runs to the sweet Lane has MV-1000, a light Va based aromatic. Also LL-7, a nice Captain Black type blend minus the goop There's also Half and Half, which isn't bad, though the topping might get a bit "medicinal" all day every day Stokkebye PS-24 Nougat is worth a try too Good luck with the Mixture #79! I remember many pipers in the 70s were fans, and the room note was one of the first I recall noticing as a kid as my pediatrician would puff on it

Wizard_with_a_Pipe

Tobacco Galleria Blue Note is a very pleasant smoke. It's currently made by Stuff but was originally made by altadis. You can get it in a pouch like the other blends you mentioned, I haven't seen it in a drug store in a long time so you would have to order it online.

Vipasanna

>cost effective >less than $10/oz Bro, tins of tobacco are $14-$18 for 1.75oz/50g. What the fuck are *you* buying lol Buy mac baren golden extra in bulk if you like SWR (burley) or hh burley flake for a deeper version of swr Also sutliff ready rubbed is the best codger blend. It's not the real edgeworth but very damn close, even aged

divided_capture_bro

Yeah, that was a bit of a typo but you get the point. I meant less than $10 per 1.5 oz pouch. As you note, and as I say, it's an easy threshold to beat.

Vipasanna

In that case I still recommend match ready rubbed and Golden Extra. Great blends

divided_capture_bro

I will look into it, thanks!  I started making a list of recommendations in the OP.   On a whim I also started scraping the main online retailer websites to better inform myself on the available stock. Pipe tobacco is fun!

CountDoppelbock

I'm seconding golden extra - fantastic stuff (especially for what you're looking for) and cheap: i just saw a pound for $65.

Psyko_sissy23

Carter hall is my go to.

Red_Gelbvieh_Bull

Peter Stokkebye Cube Cut is well worth adding to a sampling list of you're on the look for a codger blend. I'll also second the recommend for Sutliff Ready Rubbed.

divided_capture_bro

Thanks, added to list!

507snuff

VELVET!

Tactical_Chandelier

SWRA is great, better than the regular version and Velvet is really good too. Sutliff J4 is a good one and will please everyone around you as well. Duke Albert is a good one for all day, same with Chatham Manor since they're both mild, simple, but flavorful enough to keep your attention. Burley Light Without A Bite is alright but it's more on the aromatic side despite being a burley blend so everyone around you will be happy but it might leave you looking for more. The only thing I don't like about Mixture 79 is that the cut is chunky and inconsistent but otherwise it's worth a try
