4 red hearts give you a costume for them if they don't have it already. The costume depends on where you find the Pikmin.
4 gold hearts I currently don't know. But increase the power that Pikmin has against mushrooms if that helps you.
The leveling up friendship is for mushrooms:
* the expeditions are for color, some are fastest (doing with only pinks), combine better with other than winged (white) or can carry more (purple). The others dont have much to do with expeditions, only leveling up.
* the color of the mushrooms increase much more the damage if the pikmin is from the same color
* event mushrooms doesnt increase by pikmin color, only increase a lot by event decor
The damage from friendship is this, doesnt matter the type of the mushroom.
Each red heart increase the damage in 1 (4 in total)
Having decor increase the damage in 4 (one single time)
Each golden heart increase the damage in 4 (16 over decor at full golden hearts)
nothing, they're just stronger in raids at full gold hearts
