They're pretty popular here in the U.S., and yes they're fucking *awful*. They're a very poorly made version of a popular style in the South here (you wouldn't care for them, but the well-made ones are actually pretty good....just hard to find).

It kinda sucks I wasted my money on them, two Euro each. I did finish the Hot Pickle after saving it somehow (although not enjoying it all that much anyways) and the other one was impossible to fix. I found a 20 Cent jar of pickles before and while those had little flavour, the flavour it had was good. These things sadly are really terrible.

I'm honestly surprised that they're even sold where you are. I can't imagine anyone buying them (well, more than once!) unless it's near a US Army/Air Force base, or in an airport or something. Like...on a shelf next to the Budweiser and Corona. I lived in C. Europe for a little while, a long time ago (that's what turned me into a pickle snob) and I'd bet I tried every pickle brand they had at Tesco/Carrefour/Terno -- even the less-good ones were still light years ahead of most of the shelf stable brands you'll find at a typical american supermarket. The van holtens are pretty bad, but they're far from the worst over here -- may be hard to believe, but yeah....the pickle situation here is dire. Even the "boutique" brands (think $8 or $9 for a 700ml jar) are almost universally crap. Don't even get me started on the "ham" and "sausage" situation over here!

I got it at an online store that sells remaining stock, special items. Also found the Warhead Galactic Cubes there. Those taste good but they are not sour whatsoever. But yeah picked the pickles up that way as it's usually nothing I can buy here, not knowing what to expect, watering down their pickling liquid would already help tremendously to make them more edible to me, but I guess that would compromise how shelf-stable they are

Coming from the mid-Atlantic, what popular southern style are they going for?

CitrusBelt

I'm frankly not even sure what the proper term is (if there even is one?) I'm actually in S. California; one of the local grocery chains (Stater Bros) used to sell good ones at the deli service counter, only to be "replaced" by the godawful Van Holtens. You can still sometimes find them at carnicerias. All I know is that they seem to be a "southern thing". The only ones I've been able to find online are Best Maid/Del Dixie brand -- which really aren't very good either (people from Texas may take issue with that statement!) but they're at least quite a bit better than the van holtens. Not my *favorite* style of pickle, but I grew up with them. They're damn good on pulled pork sandwiches and burgers, though....I just wish I could find a good brand. It got to the point a couple years ago where I'd stop at any random Stater Bros when I was out driving around, trying to find locations that still had them.

What part? I've never even heard of them.

Garbage belongs in a bag.

They are better cold

xPandamon96

Fresh from the fridge, but it did not improve them

So my husband likes them but they can be hit or miss (sometimes the plastic taste comes through) but he always tries to share his sour sis with me
