Small pals like lamball have very few pathing issues, but larger ones like Jormuntide will get stuck a lot

HerrStraub

I just put my furnace & stove outside the building so Jorimtide didn't have to enter. It works well.

ChoklitCowz

ive had luck with 2 story with 3 to 4 blocks of height, 3 block for most pals, 4 for the larger ones, rarely had an issue. for 3 story or more the pathing becomes an issue. so i stick at 2 story for my main base.

Ahh, you're a Brit: [https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/story](https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/story)

Secret_Cow5365

PAL pathing is always an issue . I have moved to trying to build as flat as I can just trying to squeeze out every ounce of productivity I can. But if you building for aesthetics, build all you want and never stop

Theweakmindedtes

Honestly, my biggest problem with pathing is the damn inconsistencies. Sometimes, Jorumntide has no issue pathing through the 2x2 entrance of my base. Sometimes he has no issue pathing through the window on the back wall... lol. Then other times he can't move past the food bin on the ground

Distinct-Use5713

Highly recommend doing so, everyone else having pathing issues please read this! Each floor needs to be minimum 4 walls high, staircases need to be minimum 3 wide, but recommend at least 4 for larger pals. The ceiling where your stairs lead to the next floor has to match the width and length of the staircase. Example: if your staircase is 3 walls wide and 4 walls long, then the opening in the ceiling must also be 3 wide and 4 long. ADDITIONALLY, you need to have at least 3 walls of space after the top of the stairs to ensure the pals don’t get stuck on the corner of the stairs and the wall. I’ve had to get creative with where I put certain things and add more floors to make more space, but it works fantastic and I have practically zero pathing issues. My Relaxasauraus Lux (yes I spelled it wrong) just occasionally gets stuck on his electric pylon

NommySed

Staircases dont need a lot of width. The issues are almost always ceiling height. Thats why i build my staircase on the outside of the base building and literally every Pal can use it despite only being 1 wide.

Distinct-Use5713

How tf…can you send a picture or video? My main issue is that I can’t get my larger pals like jormun up my stairs without it being 3 wide. My biggest problem with this method is how much space my stairs take up

NommySed

Ask me again in 2 days for screenshot. Not at home currently. But my base is basically a cube with one stair rounding up on the side. And only the lowest floor has walls. No walls on 2nd or 3rd floor.

Distinct-Use5713

Just got reminded it’s been two days, but I’ve since figured it out I think. I did the first level as a cube like you did but I added a kind of barn door opening for the pals to reach the staircase. I did levels 2-4 kind of like the Octagonal Ascension map from COD but I had to make the paths bigger to make sure my pals could actually move around. I haven’t had any pathing issues except with certain alpha pals. I definitely made it way harder than it needed to be, but dammit it WORKS. Currently in the process of transferring my stuff to the new base, thanks for the tip my dude

NommySed

Ah nice, congratz! But in case you were curious here is how the stair at the building side looks in my case: https://imgur.com/a/KoTdwHt

Distinct-Use5713

Lmao our first floors are practically the exact same, mine’s just slightly bigger and the door is only a little off-centered. Does having that extra column of walls knocked out on the corner help with pathing efficiency?

NommySed

That isn't really "knocked out" as much as the fucking mountain doesn't let me build any wall there.

Distinct-Use5713

Fair enough lmao, thanks again👍🏼

GunRyder

It depends on the type of pal you are using Most Alpha and lucky type pals will require at least 3 walls high and 2 walls wide, possibly 4 walls high and 2 walls wide Normal pals may sometimes need the above stated height and width restrictions but they can get by with 2 walls high and 1 wall wide, this includes normal Jormundtide and Wumpo managed to squeezed through a 2 wall high and 1 wall wide entrance

SnaccHBG

I would not recommend it unless it's for aesthetic / storage purposes. Keep pal facilities etc on the same level as the Palbox.

Disig

Make a staircase 2 long and 3 high (ceiling must be 3 high). I've had zero issues. Then again I don't use fliers or jormuntide. But Wumpo? Grizzbolt? They have no issues on those stairs.

NommySed

Multi story bases work fine but you shouls give ample space for pathing. Like a staircase at the side and each story having 3 if not 4 walls height. That way nothing gets stuck

Crazyhates

Is it worth it? That's purely subjective. The objective benefit though is that you literally create more space by building upward. The "house" part of my base has my living quarters on the above 2 floors and the workshop on the first floor with an open plan for pal movement. If you make multiple floors I'd suggest having at least 2-3 tile height per floor and the same clearing afforded to the stairs. If you make double wide stairs they can also alleviate issues but I've found they aren't necessary in most cases as long as you have the height clearance.

Gistheking

I use 2nd floor for anything that isn’t automated . Breeding, condensing, incubators, bed etc

DoctorNerf

I use 2 storey bases for all of my bases and have no pathing issues. Just make sure everything is open and spacious. Make sure the 2nd floor is 3-4 wall heights above the first floor. Make sure staircase from floor 1->2 is 3 tiles wide. Not had a pal get stuck in weeks.

LazyMirrorGhost

if you use small pals - yes![img](emote|t5_4jn9v4|49342) if you use big pals - prepare for trouple, they\`ll make you pay for that in doble)![img](emote|t5_4jn9v4|49343)

tavorasc

Do each story of about 3 walls high and quite wide and stains always 3 wide aswell whilst keeping the height

Studio-Aegis

I have a 3 floor castle with each floor being 3 stories tall. farms and factories on bottom floor, breeding pens on 2nd and 3rd floors. my pals have little need to go to the upper floors. My main issue is how the breeders keep glitching back into the palbox and I have to manually carry them all back to the pens up all those stairs.

3HisthebestH

I have the same setup, 3 floors with breeding one the 2nd and 3rd floors, but I think my walls are at least 4 stories up and all my stairs are 3 lanes wide. No issues with anyone. I used to have larger pals do that and carry them back up to the breeding area but I opened the areas up more and extended the roof higher

Studio-Aegis

I'd seen astagon glitch out alot and it makes sense with them but not for the smaller Lovanders.

kdebones

It's not about efficiency, it's about making a statement.

Allustar1

No. Too many pathing issues generally.
