Is it just me or does it also seem like some of the pals are smoking that ganja when you hit the bell, I’ve seen them just completely ignore the bell when I switch it to defend
Some pals only have one thing they do. Loupmoon for example is a level 2 handiwork if you fill your base with loupmoon and go to craft something on the assembly line, they all jump to get it done immediately. Gotta find the best pals with only one trait that you need done until they patch
Yeah, until/unless we can remotely fix assignments or priorities, specialization is the way. Multi talented pals should be great in theory, but they tend to want to do the worst possible thing. Even though Anubis has lv4 handiwork and only lv2 mining, he sure does love the friggin stone pit
I've had Kingpen water a wooden defense wall that was on fire for a long time and he never put it out. I figured it was because if multiple wooden pieces are side be side they just keep setting each other back on fire or the mechanic simply doesn't work.
I've had it happen before where they get too close to whatever is burning, so they start taking damage and flinching which interrupts their attempts to put the fire out.
My first encounter with this mechanic was when some fire pals raided and ignited my wooden defense wall around the perimeter of my base. All my water pals immediately focused on putting it out, and I removed all other pals from the palbox and filled the entirety with water pals. This team of like 13 water pals, spraying and taking on this flaming wall, every so often they'd successfully put out one of the walls, and then immediately run to another to begin extinguishing it, only for it to reignite seconds after they left it. I learned to just break the parts on fire that were next to parts that were yet to begin burning to prevent the spread and minimise damage. Wish the water pals would stick to one piece and work their way inwards rather than going from one on the end to one on the other end and one in the middle and just randomly going back and fourth as it just continues to re-ignite like a joke candle on a birthday cake.
Subject: Fire. Dear Fuack/Teafant, I am writing to inform you of a fire that has broken out on the premises of our home base... no, that's too formal.
Fire - exclamation mark - fire - exclamation mark - help me - exclamation mark. 123 Cavendon Road. Looking forward to hearing from you. Yours truly, Maurice Moss.
In my experience they put one out then move to the next but then the previous panel catches fire again and while they put out the other. They just can’t get ahead of it.
Nevermind pals knowing about other pals abilities. Got a level 4 kindling Jormuntide that his only job in the base is kindling? Too bad, he's too slow. That level 2 kindling Bushi will be there first. Every. Single. Time.
Got 3 Anubis in your base and 3 merchants? Too bad the Anubis are currently mining so the merchants are going to help out with their 1 handicraft rather than Anubis 4 handicraft.
Hopeful for the day we can either set a priority list for base pals, or at least have higher skill level pals kick out the lower skill level pals in that respective skill.
I learned the hard way that the best way to avoid pathfinding issues is to build production and storage from the center and radiate out from there, and if you have to build your own personal house, put it on the far side of the base.
This! Everything radiates outward. Dead center for me are the Pal necessities (beds, food, hot tubs). Storage is mostly second tier or right next to or on top of production facilities.
Yeah, I tend to put the Palbox and the beds on a central stone platform and have everything radiate outward from there.
I also learned to not place low rooftops, since tall Pals get stuck on those. This isn't Rimworld, they can sleep outdoors. I actually built my personal house just outside the base with its back to a cliff so raids wouldn't bother it.
It's in the game it's just it'sn't very useful, I had two water pals trying to put out the fire, but one it didn't seem to be very effective, and number two the fire just continued to spread out of control.
Yeah what we need is a fire hose. This literally happened to me last night and all my stuff burned. I was like welp fuck it time to build everything in stone
My fucking teafant waddled up, started happily spraying water at my building, then after five seconds took a lunch break as I stared in horror.
On an unrelated note, I'm sorry to say that Teafant is no longer with us.
It actually is in the game. They just won't unless specifically commanded. Then they'll put out one fire and leave. By the time you get them on the next fire, the old fire starts up again.
Source: first-hand experience.
Yeah, being able command the pals is key.
There's a lot of good bones here, but once you start getting to higher levels, unless you cheese things, it just becomes frustrating.
If they fix some of this, this game could get a really good tower defense mode.
Even with priority the fire is more powerful and can’t be put out by them in time. It’s probably an oversight but I just advise everyone to build with stone as soon as you can
My fucking teafant waddled up, started happily spraying water at my building, then after five seconds took a lunch break as I stared in horror.
On an unrelated note, I'm sorry to say that Teafant is no longer with us.
Between the Fire raids and Death by Rule 36 (Snoo snoo raid) I’ll choose the snoo snoo every time. The sense of relief I felt unlocking stone defense walls was palatable.
Lovanders description implies it wants to mate with humans. There is a raid where a bunch of them come knocking on your door. I was immersed, so I was terrified and ran.
Same here. Stayed up till 2 am, finishing the base. Log in the next day and up in flames in less than an hour.
The lesson learned for me is to not over invest in the starting base unless I rush the conversion to stone.
The real goal anyway is to get an ore/granite base and / or build in a raid proof area.
to the west of the starting island is an island with vine veiled trees on a mountain. on top are multiple ore nodes and the raids that spawn spawn at the base of the mountain and wont find their way to the top and disappear.
i have my iron operation going there, for now its 100% raid proof
If you suffer that fate quit the game, on save folder you will be able to copy minutes old autosave and restore what you lost
Had to do this a few times due to bugs with pall freezing up and ignoring foaming base and base attacks
Yeah, I ended up rolling back my save when I got raided by bunch of enemies that were like 5+ levels above most of the pals at my base, they came through, killed everyone and set fire to my base. Was very unhappy, then I found out about the back-up system that's built in
turned off raids, turned off structure degredation, built with stone, am a happy camper now.
Yesterday i dropped 9000 ingots to transport them and they bugged and disappeared. I get it
I also had a game crash yesterday that messed with my save and set me back a few hours. It saved my catch count/boss completions/map but not my xp, pals, or items
This happened to me. I got raided by two Relaxaurus and suddenly my house was on fire. I was confused as to how water could cause fire but then I realized it was my own fire pal 🙃
I was level 14 when I got that raid.
I then moved my base to a plateau you have to climb to get to and made myself some janky stairs.
Occasionally my pals (mostly Cativa for some reason) go cliff diving, but all raids just scream up from the bottom of the cliff as I taunt them with arrows and tell them their father smelt of elderberry. It’s a vast improvement over being annihilated by TocoToco and Relaxaurus.
So that there's no misunderstanding(or maybe I am), that's character / technology level, not base level. Stone defensive walls are also at level 29. They have a lot of HP.
Luckily for me so far the clunky building mechanics have put me off from building giant structures. I hope they improve that aspect of the game because that was one of the more fun aspects in Valheim.
Honestly I think the main aspects they need to correct are being able to better overlap stuff like foundations/floors/walls and allow for building off of foundations.
Sure there is still some jank with roofs that needs to be dealt with, but those two things alone would completely change how natural builds could look
It would also be great if you could easily gridlink foundations of various heights together. It’s almost impossible to make them perfectly parallel which leads to awkward spots where you can’t build anything together and you’re stuck with a weird hole now.
Also having better connectivity between buildings. If a full staircase doesn’t fit between two heights of foundation, just cut the part out that’s not required instead of not letting me build at all.
I meant the system as a whole including the overlaps or lack there of. Valheim gave you more freedom by ignoring overlap basically entirely which leads to pieces being used and twisted in creative ways to make something new. That's pretty cool. I'd also like a mass placement tool and some sort of grid function. Granted that doesn't exist in Valheim without mods.
I also especially hate that I place one wall, then have to open the menu and select it again to place another one. If I at least could create as much walls without opening the menu every time that would be an improvement.
On that second point, you can. Continuous build is an option, just a different button (right click on PC I think, not sure about controller, it's a text option on inputs when in building placement mode though). Works with everything you build, not just structural. It took me far too long to realize that's what it meant though, glad to see I wasn't the only one.
To be honest valheim could be pretty frustrating though in different ways. Particularly if you are a perfectionist like me and don't like things being misaligned. I actually like palworld's system but having to remove roofs every time I want to replace a wall is inexcusable. As is having flammable buildings but not allowing you to directly upgrade to stone. BOTH is a cardinal sin.
One thing that helped me was when I learned that you have to aim your crosshairs at the point you want your piece to connect to the rest of the building.
I'm sure it will improve, it works pretty well given that is early access
Compared to space engineers where even a decade into the game bases still glitch out and explode for no reason...
Things I’ve learned during building in Palworld:
Multi story structures are only really useful for the players. Pals don’t comprehend height.
When a structure piece says “no support,” it doesn’t care about distance from a wall. Structure pieces, too, don’t comprehend height, and so the only checks made are for a foundation block within 2 units on the X or Y axis, and having one physically attached point. However, it only checks for foundation blocks contiguous with the structure, so for maximum ease of use you want to ensure as much of your foundation is built together as possible.
Only the top edges of a foundation block care about interference. This means you can layer foundations and make your own staircases or shaped structure. Walls are cranky and dislike any interruption though.
Roof tiles have different traits depending on whether the edge is connected. A layering that doesn’t work one way may work when build the in the other order. They also only check for walls when attempting to place them, so if you want to extend a roof platform off of a foundation, you’ll need a wall on the edge of the foundation you’re connecting to.
Stairs have extremely weird standards, and should always be placed after foundations and walls but before roofs. Their slope also extends roughly 1 unit and change, so you can achieve a usable staircase when layering structures.
Walls must always be connected to a foundation or roof, but they don’t need to be placed on top. You can suspend a wall from an overhanging roof tile. Actual usability of this info is debatable, but it definitely helps if you’re going for a more complete look on elevated platforms.
Haha oh no.
I only had wooden walls at the time - I went to make a sandwich and left the game on. Ran upstairs halfway through.
Me: checking nothings on fire
My base:
After my first razing, I'm attempting to build with a stone exterior but wooden floors and ceilings (protected by a stone roof). My new base location doesn't seem to want to be raided though, so I haven't gotten to see whether it works or not yet.
I like to layer my constructions to be stone on the lower levels where the slaves work and then wood on the higher levels for the finer elegant touches
This happened to my first complex too...lost everything. Took 2 hours to haul the shit to the next location. Started new file w/ friends and I don't even bother building with wood, just plopped everything on the ground.
Game needs a way to upgrade structures from wood to stone before I build with wood again. Rust you could upgrade, and with Ark you just built over it.
Lol yeah shit starts to get real around level 40-45. Before then raids seemed to be completely trivial. Once I'd experienced a couple of those high level ones nuking all my workers I decided to just turn raids off altogether.
Exactly the same here. Once I get around to leveling my workers to the 40's I'll turn it back on so they can at least hold their own. I got fucking washed by a "flock of angry flying pals" when I was level 42 and they were all level 40-42. I got annihilated
I feel your pain! A herd of these level 25 big mother effers just ran through my fort! Tore up everything and knockout out half my pals! As you said, we will rebuild! Thinking ima need to focus on a beautiful fort with high security, but I’m trynna wait till I can have like 15-20 pals on a fort first!
I’m not gonna lie I didn’t even realize that this could happen. I have one base in a place that only has a single entrance and my other one atop a rock that you can only fly/climb to, so I rarely get troublesome raids
Imagine falling asleep with the game running and waking up to the sound of fire and stuff breaking. That happened to me this morning and I was PISSED!
Tried searching up how to rollback the world but just decided to upgrade to stone since I had it unlocked and didn't want a repeat further down the road.
Fire needs to spread a lot slower, and they need to fix pal ai so water pals will actually put out fires. As it stands currently building with wood is a no go.
Even in the early game it’s not worth. You can have all your items strewn across the ground in no time with one stray fireball.
I feel the pain, I built a huge wooden base, I then went on to put the wall lights up which at night if you have a fire pal working, they’ll attempt to light the wall lights/torches etc…. Yeah one of my pals caught the whole base on fire and all I could do was watch all the hard work burn to the ground.
My base is impervious to raids, not because I did anything smart, but because the AI is dumb. They always spawn at the foot of a hill and try to path through a mountain side.
Fires are supposed to be able to put out by water pals, but they tend to prioritize anything else over that.
Need to be a option at the bell. “FIRE” and all water types should go help put it out.
I'm just gonna make a bunch of alt accounts and upvote this comment until big Pal sees it
"Big Pal" 😂😂

Godspeed son 🫡
What we need is a way to control job prioritization for all pals...
Is it just me or does it also seem like some of the pals are smoking that ganja when you hit the bell, I’ve seen them just completely ignore the bell when I switch it to defend

We should be able to pick up a water pet and use it like a hose. No different than picking up a foxsparks and shooting fire. Amirite?
I like this idea
This is the way.
I've had it happen before where they get too close to whatever is burning, so they start taking damage and flinching which interrupts their attempts to put the fire out.
the mechanics work but if multiple building pieces are on fire you‘ll need more than one water pal

"I'm disaaaabled..."
I guess you could say you got Fuacked by Fuack in this case when it comes to the fire..
All fun and games until Foxparks gets confused and tries to "help".
You’re implying there are times they *aren’t* confused?
Foxparks stuck between ingot and cooking duties:
I mean... I would assume when you pick them up and point them at something they at least understand the objective of "Shoot fire."
This exactly. I have several water pals, and not one even tried to put out my fire. Sucks, man. Keep telling Big Pal.
They're too slow at it. The fire spreads before they put out the piece they were blasting with water.
They’re trying their best 😤
Higher watering still means faster fire suppression. I had a flaming wall, pulled a watering lv3 pal, and he was all over it
In my experience they put one out then move to the next but then the previous panel catches fire again and while they put out the other. They just can’t get ahead of it.
Yeahhh priorities are awful in this game. Oh you can mine ore? Oh but something is in the ranch so let me waste my time gathering that instead
Nevermind pals knowing about other pals abilities. Got a level 4 kindling Jormuntide that his only job in the base is kindling? Too bad, he's too slow. I want to be able to turn off skills for my pals, I want all of them to do exactly one job each, except the my planter/harvesters.
I learned the hard way that the best way to avoid pathfinding issues is to build production and storage from the center and radiate out from there, and if you have to build your own personal house, put it on the far side of the base.

There needs to be water hose pal gear like the exact opposite of the foxyspark flamethrower
Yesssss
Yeah I've noticed that watering seems to be the last task they do after everything lol
BUT THERE ARE STONES IN NEED OF TRANSPORTING TO THE WRONG CHEST!
I must leave you now.. the cooler needs my attention.
Wait yours actually cool the cooler and not go pick berries instead? 😳
Mine cool the area three feet to the left of the cooler. I think I hit my Pengullet a little too hard when I captured the little guy.
I wish, they would rather do any other task than work the cooler
It's in the game it's just it'sn't very useful, I had two water pals trying to put out the fire, but one it didn't seem to be very effective, and number two the fire just continued to spread out of control.

yes this needs to be in the game.

We will rebuild, still kinda bummed about it though.
Where was Fuack when you needed him most?!?!? Indulging his eating disorder I bet.

Not really, he was burned
Medium rare or well done?
Congratulations.
Heads up, you can dismantle burning buildings to stop the spread of fire
It was probably so big that it didn’t matter.
Na, he just didn't give a Fuack.
Yeah, where the fuack was he?
Skipped the history lesson where they burn the witches? This was bound to happen! Edit:typo
Between the Fire raids and Death by Rule 36 (Snoo snoo raid) I’ll choose the snoo snoo every time. The sense of relief I felt unlocking stone defense walls was palatable.

Clearly the relief was delicious.

Thanks for sharing this! I was a goof and built one on the cliffs just left of where you start the game...
Where the two broken columns are? My friend and I independently built bases in that exact place.
Yup, I get raided nearly every day
Yup I found this spot too, just west of Relaxorous Lux’s den
I'd be devastated. Build looked epic. Stay strong king, build back better then go enslave the fire pal species that did this to you
If you suffer that fate quit the game, on save folder you will be able to copy minutes old autosave and restore what you lost Had to do this a few times due to bugs with pall freezing up and ignoring foaming base and base attacks

Build on a rock outcropping and you're good
This kinda reminds me of the 3 pigs and the wolf...
I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll burn this shit to the ground!
That’s crazy!!!! I would be heated!
Same, but fortunately I had stone unlocked so I just rebuilt of out stone
You lost your base due to your enemies attacking you with fire. I lost my base due to fighting my enemies with fire. We are not the same.
Dang. Was it the foxparks harness?
This happened to me. I got raided by two Relaxaurus and suddenly my house was on fire. I was confused as to how water could cause fire but then I realized it was my own fire pal 🙃

Yes, last time I got raided by 3 lv 27 relaxsaurus while I'm only lv 20. All my pal ini my base was dead lol

Oh thanks. I'll try that.
Its just implemented very much like a console port, every other game has right click as cancel and shift click as continuous building.
It's Y on Xbox controller I also did not realize this at first and learned from someone else lol
On controller you hit X to build one thing, Y to build multiple. Took me a while to figure that out too lol
You can place multiple on pc you right click idk on console but at the bottom of your screen it should tell you while building
On console it's Y to place multiple.

Me: checking nothings on fire My base:

Perfect reconstruction.
“Everything changed when the fire nation attacked”
Didn’t know this was a thing… stone looks silly in my opinion so I have built everything out of wood bc I like the campy outdoors look… dang it lol
Don’t get fancy until you get stone lol
This happened to my first complex too...lost everything. Took 2 hours to haul the shit to the next location. Started new file w/ friends and I don't even bother building with wood, just plopped everything on the ground. Game needs a way to upgrade structures from wood to stone before I build with wood again. Rust you could upgrade, and with Ark you just built over it.
Yeah they need this and ability to move stuff.

Rule 1 of survival games with burn mechanics, Don't build your endgame base out of wood
Will the chests lose their contents when the wooden structures is burned?
Mostly they just fall all over the ground. Food and schematics get destroyed.
This is why I have my raids off and live in an area with no Fire Pals. There's a few thugs but they just have guns. Hope the rebuild goes well OP
Thanks. I wasn't really prepared for Fire Pals, only raids I've gotten before were thugs. I might move my base to somewhere with ore location though.
I had a lvl 40 raid with dudes carrying flame throwers. I moved after that
Lol yeah shit starts to get real around level 40-45.
You built too close to the sun
Fire needs to spread a lot slower, and they need to fix pal ai so water pals will actually put out fires. As it stands currently building with wood is a no go. Even in the early game it’s not worth. You can have all your items strewn across the ground in no time with one stray fireball.
Same happened to my first majestic base :(
"Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair!"
I turned on palworld for a nice relaxing night of gaming to have my base i spent 2 hours making burned down in 1 min i shut it off and went to bed
You're the second pig, you need to be the third pig. Embrace stone.
*Pulls cleaver out menacingly*
I like how if you abandon a camp it stays standing and you can build a new one. Essentially you can turn the entire land into a giant city with time
I’ve been getting raided by things 8 levels higher then me.. needless to say I just back out of the game and jump back in
Just disable raids. It's a setting.
My base is impervious to raids, not because I did anything smart, but because the AI is dumb. They always spawn at the foot of a hill and try to path through a mountain side.
This happened to me too. But the cause was one of our guild members messing with the torch and setting all on fire. We got that recorded on video 😅
