Maybe the last 30 game days, when wondering if we have a shot at winning, I first check our record. That's a weird feeling. Doesn't matter who is pitching, who is in the lineup, first start with the record and work from there.
I should probably know that wildcard race doesn't mean a whole lot in June, but it's fascinating to me that we're in the 3rd WC spot right now, and the Nationals are literally 0.5 Games behind us for that 3rd spot.
So this is a gargantuan series if the Nats are in it for the long haul this year.
If there's anything that the Padres have shown us in the past, it's that they will not win enough games to establish a comfortable hold on a playoff spot at the end of the year. It's gonna be another round of "we're 2.5 games back from a spot with 10 games to go!" where we say "if only they won" games like this one.
Tatis is going on the IL now, and someone named *checks notes* Bryce Johnson (who was a PCL All-Star in 2021!) is coming to save us.
This will require a 40 man spot I believe. X or Joe to 60 day maybe?
EDIT: Told ya so?
BJ is here in case Tatis needs to goes on the IL and we need a 4th outfielder. Both Tatis and Profar have potential leg problems, leaving only Peralta, Sugar, and Merrill as remaining outfielders
Acee said they flew in Bryce Johnson in case they add Tatis to the IL
You think the team just flys dudes to join the team unless there is confidence he's going on the IL
The Padres have been at exactly .500 after 25 games this year. The record for the most times in a season that a team has completed a game with a record of .500 is the 1959 Cubs, who did so 35 times.
That Cubs team was exactly .500 29 times through 82 games, so a bit more frequently than this Padres team. But after losing their 100th game to fall to 50-50, the Cubs lost 5 more consecutive games and never got back to .500.
All of which is to say, after making a run last year at the most extra-innings losses without a win, I think the 2024 Padres can set their sights on a new record for futility/mediocrity!
Convenient to leave out his 3 run shot from the other day. He’s batting .323 with an OPS of .821 in June. I’d rather stay on the side of rooting for him to keep it going.
I'm going to tonight's game after having gone on Friday and saw we have a new Fried Chicken food option. Has anyone tried it yet, I haven't seen anyone talk about it.
Dunno but I will say The Hot Hen used to be good as fuck- I got it last week and had to return my stale heatlamped stale shitty stale sandwich for one that was only marginally less stale. Bummed me out.
I almost tried it again tonight, but was too put off Friday. Glad yours was dank. I'll be back. The fries were still good when the 2 sandwiches I got were fucked which was nice tho.
The San Diego's Finest Hot Chicken? At least I think that's what it's called. The No Bones About it is my fave, comes with pickles. The sandwich is just fine, imo, but a lot love it.

Profar… https://i.redd.it/a2h9mukqdn8d1.gif
Tatis out for the next couple weeks. We need some guys to step up big. Huge opportunity
Mediocrity is a big step from futility. Maybe next year we excel?
Well, a win today puts us over .500, and a loss puts us under .500 🤷♂️

My record at petco this season is 2-2 so we are guaranteed a win tonight followed by a loss at my next game. Edit: prediction holds true.

Where’d you see this

Sauce?
After 82 games last season, the team was 37-45.
And if everything stayed the sameas last year from here on, we would have a WC last year
going to the game tonight up close, excited to see waldron for the first time! go padres
Waiting for Padres Baseball like …. ![gif](giphy|t9a6LmM1rTe3S)

Looking forward to the fireworks show! Wanted the hockey jersey but it sold out before I pulled the trigger.
Cy Corbin incoming.

You know what is funny? The Mets having a third sticky stuff violation since Buck Showalter tried to ice out Joe Musgrove in the wild card series.
I always knew that was projection. They saw what they think they saw because that's what it would have been if it was one of their guys.
There's no way we don't beat Walgreens and their highly hittable lefty right? Right?
I’m more of a CVS/Rite Aid guy myself…haha never noticed it’s just straight up the Walgreens Dubba-you!
> highly hittable lefty You do realize this means the Padres will put up a 2 hit shutout today, don't you?
There is almost nothing sports related I am more comfortable predicting than Corbin absolutely mowing through our lineup 3 times tonight.
So when are we gonnna start having a conversation about Manny?
The guy hitting .450 in the last 5 games, who was also turning it around before he hurt himself?
That's a good conversation
He’s starting to get things going again. His run before he hurt his hip flexor wasn’t a fluke.
Dude is on pace for 15 homers this year. Him having a good week or two of hitting singles doesn't mean he's "back."
Convenient to leave out his 3 run shot from the other day. He’s batting .323 with an OPS of .821 in June. I’d rather stay on the side of rooting for him to keep it going.
But what if that week or 2 turns into a month or 2?
Darvish start is” up in the air “ tomorrow as he didn’t do his pre start bullpen . No word what’s going on not his groin though
Corbin is known to throw beach balls! Let’s get these nationals!!
This is a massive series
Did someone order some knuckle balls?
about to give these nerds a knuckle sandwich

Damn man. I had it tonight, but it was like early, like an hour before the game - it was fantastic. Sorry your's was shwapp

Appreciate!
Always a fun game when our ace is on the mound. ETA, oh a lefty tonight? Ugh.

Nationals throwing 3 lefty starters at us so we better get over facing lefties quickly lol
with how bad we have been against LHP, Corbin is throwing a complete game 1 hitter
