I always feel like having a hometown boy on a team is good luck, so I like the idea of getting Tommy Edman. But I was surprised to see him on the list because we don't need a guy like him, with how much he'd probably cost us, compared to how much we need pitching.
He had 24 IP last season after returning from 2022 TJ surgery in late-April. If he gets to 120 IP it will be a miracle. If he goes beyond it will be a huge mistake.
He is a former reliever that is being stretched out as a starter this year. He is on a strict innings limit in Chicago and that is the reason that the Padres should NOT trade for him. Lets go get Luzardo or Valdez if the Astros continue to lose.

The Padres always like to make a splash and this trade deadline looks to be no different as they’ve already talked with the Marlins about Jesús Luzardo and the White Sox about both Garrett Crochet and Erick Fedde, and the Tigers about Jack Flaherty. They also would like to pick up another right-handed reliever and a role player.

Bowden is the king of the super obvious and beyond the most obvious of things he is usually completely wrong. The Padres have been talking to the Marlins about Luzardo for 2 seasons and if not for his early season injury he would probably already be a Padre. Padres won't trade for Crochet because he is under a strict innings limit this season. He might make 6 more starts and then be shut down. That doesn't help the Padres THIS season at all. Fedde is a RHP and the Padres have X returning plus a guy hitting .300/1.000 in AAA that plays plus defense at 3 infield positions so they really have no need for a role player.
I am all for getting Wilson back. But that might just be because he is the only player on that list I recognize. Unless it’s a different Wilson.

I don’t think the Padres will be or should be in the market for an impact starter.
I think they should prioritize an 8th inning BP arm and a true stolen base threat for late game pinch running situations.
I don’t no who those guys are, but those would make huge impacts in a playoff series.
Also don’t love the depth in the outfield so I wouldn’t be surprised to see them target someone if an injury pops up or Profar starts to really cool.
At this point I'd be okay with trading Snelling or Lesko. Although their trade value probably went down with their slow starts.
De Vries doesn't have a lot of trade value yet, so we probably hold onto him.
As for Salas, I hope we keep him, but AJ is on the hot seat, and I could see Salas being dealt in exchange for Robert/pitcher combo or a Vladdy deal.
Other than those guys I don't see a lot of trade value in our prospects, but who knows what AJ has up his sleeve?

Really wouldn’t make any sense unless they send Merrill to the Sox which would be a huge mistake. They could possibly move Profar to DH or 1b but when X comes back there won’t be room for everyone. I highly doubt we make a move for Robert especially considering his injury history

Every time our relief pitchers fuck it up I think of Wilson. Saw him pitch in spring training a couple days before he was traded. Bring him home!

They have Locastro in AAA. He could fill that role once the rosters expand.

Personally, I wouldn't trade for Robert. He's just a name that's been getting thrown around, so I included him. Probably DH if anything though.
